It is cheery news for Teachers in Oyo State as the six-year waiting period has been cancelled by the Government.

Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Dr Nureni Adeniran made the disclosure on Thursday during a live interview programme on the state broadcasting station in Ibadan.

Dr Adeniran said the promotion waiting period for teachers on Grade level 13 and above was initially six years, but it had been adjusted to be at par with that of the mainstream civil service.

The SUBEB boss added that this was necessitated by the fact that the welfare of teachers and stakeholders in the education sector was paramount to the Governor, applauding the Governor for investment in laudable projects, which in turn was enhancing effective learning and quality academic activities.

Dr Adeniran stressed that the Board and other educational bodies in the State were committed to the gradual improvement and performance of learners, reiterating the commitment of the Government to sustaining the drive for quality education in the state.

In a related development, the State Government has commenced the distribution of exercise books to students of Public Secondary Schools and Technical Colleges for the 2021/2022 Academic session.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Rahman Abiodun Abdu-Raheem, made this known to newsmen.

Barrister Abdu-Raheem said the move was another forward leap in the history of education in the state, as it would assist parents in reducing the cost of education for their children.

Barrister Abdu-Raheem noted that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Engineer Makinde had invested a lot of fund in personnel and education materials from the OYO Education Trust Fund’s purse, so as to bring greater development to the sector.

Similarly, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, has applauded the state government’s gesture toward its members.

Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Mr Raji Oladimeji Ismael, who gave the commendation, noted that the Governor Makinde-led administration had impacted the lives of Teachers in so many ways.

Mr. Raji added that Governor Makinde had surpassed past administrations, pointing at the recently approved leave grant for teachers, which would be released very soon.
