Voting ended in the Governorship election held in Ekiti State on Saturday, June 18, 2022.

Already, some results have been declared at the polling unit’s level before their transmission to the INEC Portal as residents await final results.

INEC National Commissioner coordinating Ekiti election, Mr Sam Olumekun, who monitored the exercise in Ado Ekiti and Ilawe in Ekiti Southwest Local Government, expressed satisfaction with the conduct and turnout of the people.

Mr Olumekun said that most of the problems noticed, especially malfunctioning BVAS machines were quickly responded to by the commission in order not to disenfranchise anybody.

Also, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Adeniran Tella, who visited some Council areas attributed the high turnout of the electorate to aggressive voter education and enlightenment Programme carried out by the electoral umpire.

Some voters, who spoke to Radio Nigeria, applauded INEC for its preparations for the election.

They, however, expressed worry over the issue of vote-buying, accusing security personnel of aiding and abetting the trend.

Though there were reported cases of snatching ballot boxes in some areas, there was an improvement on the exercise compared to the one held in 2018.

In the meantime, the collation centre situated at the INEC State Office in Ado Ekiti is now wearing a new look with chairs and other gadgets already in place.
