Tragedy struck early on Monday morning in Ado Ekiti, as two persons are feared dead in a ghastly road accident around the Olawuwo area of the city.
Eyewitness accounts say the two persons who were police officers were hit while on a motorcycle by a tipper lorry at a turning point around Olawuwo Filling Station, Adehun in Ado Ekiti.
They alleged that the driver of the tipper lorry who ran away immediately after the accident occurred must have driven under the influence of alcohol having veered off his lane to run over the victims who were said to be heading to work.
Some of the witnesses who spoke to Radio Nigeria said the incident would not have occurred if the lane currently under repair along the route has been completed on time.
They said the U-turn point where vehicles from Ado Ekiti cross over to the other lane from Iworoko has always appeared dangerous to motorists, with a call on the state government to expedite the rehabilitation of the road so as to prevent further carnages.
Meanwhile, the corpses of the two police officers involved in the accident have been reportedly taken to the state teaching hospital in Ado Ekiti.
