Oyo state government has urged electorates in the state not to allow politicians or mischief makers to use religion or other bias tools to influence their choices of candidates in this Saturday’s governorship and house of assembly elections.

The Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Administration, Reverend Idowu Ogedengbe gave the advice at an interfaith stakeholder’s engagement in Ibadan.

He also appealed to religious leaders and faith communities to sustain the peace currently being enjoyed in the state and not heat up the polity by inciting the people with religious sentiments.

Reverend Ogedengbe also explained that election should not be a “do or die” affair, adding that Governor Seyi Makinde who has offered himself for reelection, would want the people to carefully appraise his stewardship in the last four years as a basis for their decision to choose him over others.

While urging youths to stay away from being used by politicians to carry out any act inimical to the public interest that could undermine the electoral process, the executive assistant enlisted the various achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde from Ibadan to Oke Ogun, Ogbomoso, Saki, Iseyin and across other towns in Oyo State, as a testament that one good turn deserves another.

Also Special Assistant to the Governor on interfaith, Reverend Femi Ibikunle noted that the unity, cohesion and peaceful coexistence in the state should not be compromised on the altar of biased politicking but purposeful representation.

In their separate remarks, representatives of the various religious bodies vowed to speak to their adherent not to allow themselves to be used for nefarious activities by desperate politicians, during and after the elections, slated for Saturday, March 11.
