More than 500 people have been rescued from their homes after six rivers overflowed in Ecuador, President Guillermo Lasso has said.

He said the situation was caused by the overflow of six rivers in Quinindé, Atacames, Esmeraldas and Muisne following over 12 hours of nonstop rainfall in Ecuador.

In a Tweet on Sunday where he shared an aerial view of the area, President Lasso said ”Decentralized Risk Management System, the Joint Task Force and the municipalities and Prefecture” were working to ensure they provide the necessary support to the victims.

”The priority is to save their lives, protect them! We have already rescued 500 people and the tasks continue.” he said.

According to him, no one has been reported dead or missing.
