Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC has confirmed its readiness to conduct a free, fair and legacy local government election tomorrow.

OYSIEC Chairman, Aare Isiaka Olagunju stated this in an interview with journalists at the commission ‘s headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan on the preparedness for the polls.

Aare Olagunju, who stressed that the commission had began arrangements for the 2024 local government election on 28th April last year, pointed out that every necessary steps had been taken to ensure a hitch council polls.

“Non-sensitive materials have been received at the 33 local government areas, while distribution of sensitive materials have reached 15 local government areas, as the process is still ongoing and to be completed at noon tomorrow.” Olagunju stated.

He explained that the commission has robust collaboration with all security agencies to ensure adequate protection of lives and property before, during and after the elections.

“15,000 security personnel have been deployed to provide security at polling units and at our state border towns to prevent influx of criminal elements.” Aare Olagunju said.

According to him, voting will commence at 8’0 clock in the morning on Saturday 27th April, 2024 and come to an end at 3’0 clock in the afternoon across the 6,939 polling units in the state.

The OYSIEC chairman hinted that there would be restriction on movements of people and vehicle from 6’0 clock in the morning on Saturday till 4’0 clock in the evening, appealing to the residents to make the sacrifice in the interest of democracy and national development.

He explained that more than 16,000 ad-hoc staff have been engaged and trained to man all polling units, with minimum of two persons at a unit.

Aare Olagunju who maintained that trust and confidence in the commission under his watch have led to increased political participation and reduction in litigations, commended the 19 political parties participating in the elections for their cooperation.
