Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has donated the sum of N50 million to the Super Falcons of Nigeria ahead of their second leg Women’s African Cup of Nations qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic.
Governor Abiodun announced the donation when he received the team in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Super Falcons had defeated their Beninese counterparts by two goals to nil in the first leg played in Lome, Togo on October 24.
The governor described the return of the Falcons to the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, as a confirmation of the state’s commitment to sports development.
He said plans were underway to further upgrade the stadium environment with facilities a five-star hotel, cinema and a shopping complex.
While congratulating the team on their 10th WAFCON title, Governor Abiodun praised them for their leadership, teamwork and discipline, adding that their achievements continue to inspire young women across the country.
Head coach of the team, Justin Madugu, commended the Ogun State Government for its support and the world-class facilities at the stadium.
Team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, also appreciated the governor for his continuous encouragement and assured that the Falcons would keep making Nigerians proud.
