The resurrection of Jesus Christ is an event that continues to echo throughout history and as well relived by everyone mindful of life hereafter.

Just as Jesus’ birth was unique, drawing applause of angels and quest of shepherds and Magai, His resurrection was an astonishing demonstration of God’s power in fulfilment of Divine plan of salvation.

On a Friday, the powers of darkness and their human collaborators, Jewish religious leaders got Pilate to crucify Jesus and His tomb hermetically sealed.

About thirty Roman soldiers were tasked with rolling a massive two-tonne stone, weighing around four thousand pounds, to cover the entrance of the tomb, with a Roman seal, a sign of official authorization.

They firmed up the fortification placed at the mouth of the tomb.

Jesus had on many occasions predicted that He would rise from the dead.

In the reckoning of the chief priests and pharisees, who had got the nod from pilate to secure the tomb, such possibility was nil.

But then Christ’s disciples must be prevented from stealing His body, and claim that He had risen from the dead.

Then came the first day of the week, Sunday precisely, the unimaginable happened.

God thundered from heaven, the earth shook, and the angel of the Lord descended from heaven to roll away the massive stone.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God had risen from the dead!

This pivotal moment rendered the guards’ vigilant watch futile, yet it marked a triumphant victory for humanity.

As the Bible affirms, “If Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain”.

Sublimely, the resurrection was equally the fulfilment of the scripture which states that thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Significantly, the resurrection of Jesus Christ regarded as Easter, is the cornerstone of the Christian faith and culmination of God’s divine plan for humanity.

It symbolizes Jesus’ triumph over death and works of darkness, offering a powerful message of hope, forgiveness, and the assurance of salvation through Christ’s sacrificial death and glorious resurrection.

Jesus coming out of the grave with a new body is a testament of possibility of change from ungodly lifestyle for anyone.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ equally offers valuable lessons for everyday life especially in encouraging every one to reflect on our values, improve on relationships and pursue a path of forgiveness and redemption.

Just as the resurrection of Jesus Christ defied all odds, obstacles and conspiracies, individuals, families, corporate bodies and the entire nation can also overcome seemingly unsurmountable challenges by embracing faith in God.

In the spirit of Easter, Nigeria’s leaders must strive to rekindle hope among citizens by living up to their mandate

Jesus first sacrificed Himself preceding His resurrection. Leaders ought to be sacrificial in their service to the nation rather than being self serving.

This will go a long way in setting the tone for the change mantra they often proclaim, but rarely walk the talk.

The followership, Nigerian citizens, should also learn the virtue of sacrifice for desirable turn around of the current situation in the country.

Initiatives such as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” which aims at bringing positive change and revitalize the nation would indeed inspire a brighter future for Nigerians if it is faithfully and sacrificially implemented taking a cue from the huge sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Nigerians on Friday, joined their counterparts the world over in remembrance of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, known as Good Friday.

As a way to mark the day, special church services were held in various churches in Ibadan, Oyo state.

Some of the church services recaptured the trials and crucifixion of Jesus  Christ through drama presentations, while other Christians observed the day in sobriety, praying and fasting

At Saint Mary’s Catholic Church Oke Padre, Ibadan, events such as the appearance of Jesus Christ before Pontius Pilate, mob pronouncement of Jesus crucifixion, carrying of the cross to Golgotha and symbolic crucifixion were reincarnated by selected youths of the church.

The priest at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church Oke padre, Reverend Father Azeez Gabriel said the death of Jesus Christ on the cross was a demonstration of His Love for mankind.

Reverend Father Gabriel called on political leaders to love their followers and discharge their political responsibilities as expected by the electorate.

“It was out of love that Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. We are not suppose to suffer again. Our leaders should show love by wiping the tears of citizens”.

Also speaking, the Presbyter, The First African Church Mission, Ekotedo, Dugbe, Ibadan, The Venerable Paul Adebamkole, said political leaders and Nigerians must imbibe the lesson of sacrifice by helping others as done by Jesus Christ.

This day, far away on a skull shaped hill called Golgotha, in Jerusalem, stood an old rugged cross.

It was a cross the world so much despised, being an emblem of reproach, suffering and shame.

Yet, on that same cross, a great King who did not commit any offense was crucified.

Not minding the shame, this King, Jesus Christ, left His Glory and endured that cross for the sake of humanity.

Apparently, the event of that day was nothing short of a horrible,

Unimaginable, inexplicable, humiliating  and   worst of treatment  meted out to Jesus Christ till He  breathed His last on that gloomy day which today is being  remembered as Good Friday.

It was the most gruesome killing ever recorded in the history of mankind.

The Roman soldiers mocked Jesus, tore His flesh with lashes, smote His head with a reed, placed on it crown of thorns and nailed Him to the cross.

Darkness enveloped the entire land as blood  flowed from His head to the feet with groanings of pain, anguish and sorrow mingled with love.

Though, so dark a day it was, yet so good, as the wrath of God against the sins of men, met with mercy at the cross, demonstrating the peak of God’s love and redemptive plan for mankind.

By this sacrifice, the ultimate price of forgiveness for humanity was totally paid, the righteousness of God was vindicated and man was reconciled back to God.

Light conquered darkness and sin was conquered by love.

Satan and death became vanquished, the power of sin subdued, and a new chapter was opened in man’s relationship with God.

Man regained freedom and the hope of eternal life.

Thus, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ unarguably became the boast and glory of the Christian faith.

GoodFriday is also considered “good” by Christians because as terrible as that day was, it paved the way for redemption  of mankind and eternal life through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which was three days after His death.

Considering what the crucifixion of Jesus Christ symbolized, it  therefore behoves on Christians and the entire human race to have a deep reflection on how  the message of the cross can be applied to save the nation  from the challenges bedevilling it.

Leaders in all sectors of national life should emulate the heart of love Jesus Christ demonstrated inspite of the agony of the cross ,to see their position as an opportunity to render selfless service to deliver the masses from incessant suffering, occasioned by socio-economic and political upheavals.

Just as Jesus forgave all, individuals, families, friends, colleagues in work places, and even world leaders should use the occasion of the GoodFriday to  let go of all offences and and forgive one another just as Christ did to mankind.

If God did not spare His only son so that man could  be restored man, then every  Nigerian should forsake all manners of sin and live as a good ambassadors of Jesus Christ for positive transformation in the society.

As spiritual leaders, it’s time to return to the foundational truths of the Gospel, prioritizing sincere teachings of the Word that bring about genuine transformation.

The church must stand firm against heresies and superficialities, recognizing that judgment begins within its own walls (1 Peter 4:17). By refocusing on Christ’s message, leaders can guide their congregations toward authentic faith and spiritual growth.”

Only then,  can the nation witness the much desired peace, joy, stability ,harmony and blessings which God intended for humanity.
