Prominent Nigerians Bid Farewell to Chief Imam of Ilorin

Massive crowds gathered at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin on Monday to bid farewell to the late Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Dr Mohammed Bashir Solihu, who passed away on Monday.

Solihu died at the age of 75.

The Chief Imam, who served as the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin for over four decades, was known for his wisdom, intelligence, and dedication to promoting interfaith harmony and tolerance.

He was appointed as the Chief Imam in 1983 and has been a beacon of peace and unity in the Ilorin Emirate.

The Janazah prayer, held at the Emir’s palace, was attended by prominent Nigerians, including the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The Emir described the late Chief Imam as a man of great honour and piety, whose demise was a monumental loss to the Ilorin Emirate, the Muslim Ummah, and humanity at large

Sheikh Solihu was born in 1950 and began his Quranic education at Magaji Baboko Quranic School.

He later attended Shaykh Abubakar Sakama school and received several honours, including an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Belaze University, UK, in 2013.

Anyim, Saraki woo Southwest, Oyo PDP Delegates

A Presidential aspirant of Peoples Democratic Party PDP and Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim says electing the right leaders to lead the country in the next general election will chart a new course for the country.
This, he noted, would  curb economic and socio-political challenges facing the country.
Senator Anyim gave the indication while canvassing votes from the south west delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party at the government house, Agodi ahead of the party’s presidential primary slated to hold this month.
The former senate President who paid courtesy call on the governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde noted that Nigeria was in search of  a nationhood and conscience.
Senator Anyim said his experience in the three arms of government would chart a new direction for the nation if given the opportunity.
Senator Anyim, therefore urged Nigerians to eliminate suspicions and encourage patriotism to build a better nation

In a remark, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state who said Senator Anyim was eminently qualified to lead the nation stressed the need for PDP to keep seeking for alignment to go for convention as a united house.

The presidential hopeful who visited the Oyo state Secretariat, Agodi assured that if given the chance to fly the party’s ticket at the forthcoming presidential election, he would deploy his wealth of experience in public office to reunite the nation and create a thriving economy that would reposition Nigeria .
The former Senate president later proceeded to the Molete party Secretariat of the Oyo state PDP where he was expected to meet with all the state national delegates to personally seek for their support.

2023 Presidency: Saraki, Tambuwal, Mohammed, Makinde Meet in Ibadan Over Consensus Candidate

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has declared that some of the Presidential Aspirants under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have agreed to support a consensus candidate ahead of the 2023 general election.


Senator Saraki said this while speaking with news at the Agodi Government House, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, after a meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde.


Senator Saraki led other three Presidential Aspirants of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) including Governors Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Muhammed Ayatudeen and other top party chieftains to the Oyo State Government House, Agodi, Ibadan to brainstorm on the issue.


They had earlier held a meeting behind closed doors with Governor Seyi Makinde.

Senator Saraki, disclosed that Nigeria is bigger than anyone’s ambition and with the state of things in the country, all hands must be on deck to salvage the situation.


The former Senate President reiterated that there was need for unity of purpose among leaders and members of the party, urging the party to agree on a consensus candidate.


Also speaking, Governor Makinde declared that the meeting was fruitful, noting that PDP would present a Presidential candidate that would be acceptable to all.

Governor Makinde affirmed that the group would work together to ensure people understand the consensus arrangement and addressed confusion that might arose from such decision.

My ministers will be under 35 when I become president – Saraki

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, says his cabinet ministers will be below the age of 35 years if elected as president in 2023.

The plan, he said, was in line with his long-time belief that the younger generations have a lot to contribute to Nigeria’s development.

Saraki stated this when some young supporters raise N40 million for his Presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.

Announcing his plans in a series of tweets on his Twitter page on Tuesday, Saraki said the youths, who are young professionals that raised the money were convened by Abubakar Danmusa.

He wrote, “Last night, I was truly touched by the gesture of the young professionals convened by Abubakar Danmusa, who helped to raise the N40 million for my Presidential Expression of Interest Form and my Nomination Form.

“These young people, who went out of their way to rally their friends, family, and coworkers, made contributions of N500,000 to N2 million to reach their desired goal.

“This symbolic gesture, a first of its kind in the history of our nation, is also a challenge to me. Now, I promise to work twice as hard as I originally intended. I promise to meet the yearning and aspirations of all our young people to run a modern government.

“As it stands, this is a clarion call. This is why I make this promise:

“When I become President on the 29th of May 2023, all the Ministers of State in my Cabinet will be experienced young people who are under the age of 35.

“We have our work cut out for us. But the battle to fix Nigeria has just started!”
