Oyo State Government has begun a re-verification exercise for property owners on the first phase of the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, Ibadan, who are yet to receive compensation.

Chairman of the monitoring committee for the payment of compensation to affected property owners on the first phase of the project, Retired Commissioner of Police Sunday Odukoya, said the re-verification exercise would capture over 900 persons, who were omitted during the initial compensation exercise.

Oyo State Government, had on April 22, 2026, approved the sum of 5.8 billion naira as compensation to another tranche of property owners affected by the road project in addition to earlier compensation paid to hundreds of affected property owners.

According to Mr Odukoya, beginning from Monday, 27th April, 2026, property owners affected in the first phase of the 110km Circular Road, who were omitted in the prior compensation exercise, should go to the Ministry of Lands or the office of the Executive Assistant on Security to the Governor, who also doubles as the chairman of the verification committee, to check for their names.

He said the affected persons should bring along the following documents; Local Government Identification Letter/Residence Permit for Non-Indigenes of the State; Survey Plan Of The Property/Farmland; Drawings Of The Property Plan/Farmland; Photograph Of The Property Plan/Farmland; Land Purchase Agreement and sworn affidavit from Court/ Ministry of Justice.

Other required documents include: Letter of Power of Attorney from the Ministry of Justice (for proxy purposes); five (5) current passport photographs of claimants; National Identification Number (NIN) of claimants; five (5) current passport photographs of the guarantor/surety; guarantor’s/ surety’s means of Identification (NIN); bank details of claimants including name, bank and account number and phone number.

The committee chairman tasked the intending claimants to bring along other documents as may be determined necessary by the monitoring team as well as a letter of recommendation from the landlord association in the affected axis.

The Oyo State Government has disbursed over ₦200 million to residents affected by the ongoing Ibadan Circular Road project.

The state government presented the funds at an event held at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in Agodi, Ibadan.

The Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, stated this is the fourth round of payments for affected residents in the Odeyale area of Ona-Ara Local Government.

Mr. Williams promised the state would soon complete the total ₦1 billion compensation package for all project-affected persons.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, commended the administration’s political will to strengthen the state’s infrastructure and economy.

Prince Oyelade called for the continued support of residents for the road project, which has been planned for over 20 years and is expected to boost industrialization and socio-economic growth.

Two beneficiaries, Adekunle Bolaji and Dauda Jimoh, lauded the government’s sincerity, noting that the compensation has restored their lost joy.

Illegal occupants of government land, whose properties were destroyed on the first segment of the Ibadan Circular Road corridor have blamed fraudsters and unscrupulous agents for their misfortunes.

Some of the affected occupants, who spoke to journalists after receiving compensation for their properties destroyed, urged the Oyo State Government to deal decisively with those involved in unlawful sales of government land.

One of the victims at Jigan community, Mr Usman Bada, government should step up its efforts in curbing activities of individuals selling government lands.

Also, Mr Saheed Adeleke, at Agbena-Odeyale community and  Mrs Omolara Basiru of Aba Otun community, whose property were destroyed, said that activities of the impostors should be checked to avoid innocent land buyers falling into their hands.

They advised government to partner with heads of indigenous villages to curb the excesses of the fake land owners thanking government for the gesture. 

The Commissioner for Land, Housing and Urban Development, Mr Akin-Funmilayo Williams disclosed that affected property owners on the first segment of the Circular road project would benefit from the N264 million.

Mr Akin-Funmilayo said that identification and verification exercise for the affected property owners on the corridor of the project had earlier been conducted.

Commenting on the activities of the impostors, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, Mr Sunday Odukoya, admonished potential land buyers to always conduct verification at the Deeds Registry in the state Ministry of Land before buying lands.

Mr Odukoya who chaired the compensation committee, advised individuals, groups or associations who want to buy land to check the master plan of lands in the state at the state secretariat before acquisition.

Oyo state government had commenced payment of N264 million as compensation for individuals whose properties were destroyed on the first segment of the circular road.

Oyo State Government has commenced re-verification of owners/claimants affected by the acquisition of land on one of the segments of Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road. 

The re-verification is being conducted at Islamic  High School, Basorun, Ibadan. 

Addressing the owners/claimants of houses and land from the Alago to Ajota area, Chairman, Monitoring team on the payment of compensation to land owners/claimants affected on the axis, CP Sunday Odukoya (Rtd), stated that the exercise was geared towards putting smiles on the people. 

CP Odukoya (Rtd) while urging the affected persons of the axis to embrace the opportunity presented by the state government equally appealed to them to cooperate with the team. 

Also, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, a member of the monitoring team who explained that the exercise is free, told the affected persons not to deal with any third party on the re-verification exercise. 

Some of the land owners/claimants, Jimoh Keyinsi, Kazeem Bello and Mrs Adeola Bolatito in an interview appreciated the modalities on which the re-verification exercise is being carried out and expressed optimism that their efforts would not be in vain. 

They confirmed that necessary documents were verified to ascertain their claims of the properties. 

Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier directed the monitoring team to re-verify documents of affected persons with genuine documents with a view to compensating them. 

The exercise which targeted about 3000 owners and claimants in the axis would be concluded on Saturday 22nd December 2024.

Oyo State Government is set to begin the re-verification exercise for land owners/ claimants affected by the acquisition of lands on Segment I of Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road from Alago to Ajota.

The Monitoring Team will carry out the exercise on the Payment of Compensation to Land Owners /Claimants affected on the axis.

The venue of the re-verification is Islamic High School, Basorun, Orita Basorun, Ibadan.

According to the Monitoring Team led by CP Sunday Odukoya (rtd), the re-verification exercise would begin on Sunday, 15 December 2024 by 10 a.m. and conclude on 22nd  December 2024.

The Team informed land owners/claimants to come along with the relevant documents such as

 Local government identification certificate/residence permit for non-indigenes of the state, Land purchase agreement and National Identification Number (NIN) 

The others are two current passport photographs and a Letter of power of attorney from the Ministry of Justice (for proxy purposes).

Also required are bank details, a survey plan of the property/farmland, a photograph of the property/farmland, an affidavit from the court/Ministry of Justice, and two passport photographs of the guarantor /surety’s means of identification.

The Monitoring Team added that the exercise would be done in batches, urging claimants to go to the Ministry of Lands on Friday, 13 December 2024 to check for the batch they fall into.
