  • Corps Marshall Urges Stricter Compliance With COVID-19 Measures

    Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has tasked commanding officers to intensify awareness campaign on COVID-19 precautionary measures in motor parks nationwide.

    This is contained in a statement in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr Bisi Kazeem.

    Mr Kazeem urged officers to brace up, and be more proactive to ensure immediate deployment of personnel for aggressive sensitization of the motoring public on the need to observe maximum safety measures in the face of the recent threat of the second wave of COVID-19 in the country.

    Mr Kazeem stated that fleet operators must endeavour to ensure strict compliance to all directives given by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 including provision of running water, hand washing equipment and hand sanitisers both in parks and terminals in the vehicles.

    He said, “as the corps commences this year’s end of year special patrol towards a successful Christmas and new year celebrations, the corps would not relent in its commitment to a safer motoring environment”.

    The FRSC Public Education Officer noted that creating understanding and enforcing compliance with the rules was strategic to achieving the required success.

    Mr Kazeem said drivers must be made to comply with every directive on physical distancing by carrying only one person at the front and not more than three at the rear seat of the vehicles. 

    He said motorcycle riders should also carry only one person at a time so that occupants would be able to guard themselves and watch out for symptoms as they commute to their destinations.

    Mr Kazeem equally stated that the Corps Marshal advised travelers to stay away from overloaded vehicles at all times no matter the urgency of their trip. 

    He warned all vehicle occupants to always wear their seatbelts, put on their facemasks and ensure that they filled the passenger manifest before embarking on any trip.

    Mr Kazeem cautioned FRSC personnel detailed on enforcement to treat road users with tolerance, civility, empathy and called on the public to report any noticeable noncompliance by any transporter to the Corps through the Toll Free emergency numbers 122 or 08052998090, 09067000015, and messages only 08052998012.

  • Safety on the road is linked to discipline – FRSC Boss

    Motorists have been told to desist from believing myths that supernatural power are responsible for accidents in ember months but human errors which can be avoided.

    Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi made this known while addressing road users at the launch of Ember Months Road Safety Campaign in Akure

    The Corps Marshal represented by FRSC Zonal Commander, Osogbo, Mr Godwin Ogagaoghene challenged Nigerians not to be over-spiritual on the wheel but rather be disciplined, maintain their vehicles well and obey traffic rules to curb road crashes.

    Speaking on the theme for the campaign, “Drive safe, stay safe” the Commander, FRSC Ondo state, Mr Ahmed Hassan appreciated the Ondo State government for the construction of roads including the Ore flyover which he noted had helped in reducing accident on the popular axis.

    Mr Hassan however warned drivers against the use of phone while driving, overloading and over speeding.

    Earlier, Ondo State governor, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu represented by his Special Adviser on Transport, Mr Tobi Ogunleye, said the state embarked in the construction of a vehicle inspection center and rider institute to train drivers and motorcyclists against recklessness and inspect vehicles.

    The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi represented by Chief Sola Adegbonmire appealed to the drivers to shun alcoholic drinks and other stimulants while on duty for safety.

    The FRSC conducted free eye tests and other medical checks for the drivers on the occasion.

    Heads of agencies such as the police, fire service, NOA, NDLEA and others attended the program.

  • FRSC Calls for Trailer Park in Oyo State

    The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi has appealed to the Oyo state government to give priority to the construction of a modern mega trailer park in the state. 

    The Corps Marshal who made the appeal when he paid a courtesy visit to the Governor’s office, explained that the project would reduce traffic gridlock in the state as Ibadan is strategic to vehicular movement to different parts of the country.

    Dr. Boboye stressed that the construction of modern trailer’s park was imperative to curb road crashes as a result of indiscriminate parking by truck drivers.

    While calling for collaboration with the corps to avert instances of road mishap during ember months, Dr. Oyeyemi also implored the governor to work on the Iwo road interchange and halt street trading along the Iwo – Ife road and other major roads in the state for safety.

    Responding, Governor Seyi Makinde explained that despite criticisms, he remained committed to finding solutions to the gridlock at the Iwo road interchange and would complete the project within nine months when flagged off.

    Governor Makinde said his government would consider the modern trailer park project, noting that it was not ideal for trucks to cluster on the roads.
