The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed gratitude to the people of the state and the Federal Government for their support as Ogun marked the 50th anniversary of its creation.

Governor Abiodun made the remark  at the state banquet held at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, as part of activities marking the Golden Jubilee celebration.

He said he was humbled by the grace of God to serve as Chief Steward of the state at such a historic moment, noting that the achievements recorded so far were the result of collective effort and shared sacrifice.

The governor thanked residents of the state, past leaders, stakeholders and partners for their contributions to the growth and development of Ogun State, stressing that progress would not have been possible without their support.

Governor Abiodun also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his confidence, trust and continued support, describing the President as a dependable ally whose faith in the state has strengthened its development drive.

Reflecting on the celebration, former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, attributed the successes recorded by the state to the commitment and dedication of both past and present leaders.

Professor Osinbajo congratulated the people of Ogun State, noting that Governor Abiodun has rewritten the state’s history through strides in industrialization, infrastructure, airport development, agro-processing and improved economic performance.

The banquet was attended by dignitaries from across the country, including government officials, traditional rulers, captains of industry and other stakeholders.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated his Deputy, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, on the occasion of her 60th birthday, describing her as a dependable and loyal partner whose contributions have strengthened his administration.

In a congratulatory message, Governor Abiodun said the Deputy Governor has displayed rare leadership qualities and played a key role in the successful implementation of the administration’s “Building Our Future Together” agenda.

The Governor noted that Engineer Salako-Oyedele’s career as an engineer, administrator, and public servant has been marked by dedication, excellence, and commitment to service, adding that she has continued to inspire women, young professionals, and the people of Ogun State.

Governor Abiodun commended her wise counsel, diligence, and collaborative spirit, saying her support has enhanced the stability and effectiveness of governance in the state. 

He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant her good health, renewed strength, and many more years of impactful service.

Also congratulating the Deputy Governor, the Minister of Women Affairs, Honourable Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, described her as a trailblazer who has consistently demonstrated integrity, vision, and people-centred leadership.

The minister praised Engineer Salako-Oyedele’s commitment to the upliftment of women, children, and vulnerable groups, noting that her career reflects a balance of professional excellence and compassion.

The Ogun State House of Assembly has called on the state government, the National Assembly, and the Inspector-General of Police to urgently address the increasing number of police checkpoints along border roads and other parts of the state, particularly the Owode–Ijiroko road in Ipokia Local Government Area.

The resolution followed a motion titled urgent call for the reduction of multiple police check points along Idiroko -Owode road in Ipokia Local Government Area, moved by the lawmaker representing Ipokia/Idiroko State Constituency, Mr Adebisi Oyedele.

Opening the debate, Mr Oyedele decried the presence of over 52 police checkpoints on a 20-kilometre stretch of road, describing it as excessive and a source of constant extortion, harassment, and bribery.

The lawmaker noted that the situation recently led to a five-day strike by commercial drivers, causing hardship for residents.

 He urged the House to seek immediate intervention from the relevant authorities including the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the Inspector-General of Police, through the State Commissioner of Police to ensure immediate solution.

He also called for the resolution to be transmitted as a petition to the National Assembly and the National Security Adviser.

Other lawmakers, including the Deputy Speaker, Mrs  Bolanle Ajayi; Mr  Lukman Adeleye; Mr Adegoke Adeyanju; and Mr Waliu Owode, supported the motion, stating that the challenge of multiple police checkpoints affected commuters across several  parts of the state.

The Speaker , Mr Oludaisi Elemide, who presided over the sitting, directed that copies of the resolution be forwarded to Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Inspector-General of Police, and the National Security Adviser for necessary action.

Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a bill to regulate the activities of scavengers and waste dealers in the state, aimed at promoting public order, environmental safety, and peaceful coexistence.

The bill, titled “The Scavengers and Waste Dealers Law, 2025, was passed following the presentation of a report by the Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Mr Samsideen Lawal. 

The report was adopted following a motion moved by Mr Lawal, seconded by the Minority Leader, Mr Lukman Adeleye, and supported by all members through a unanimous voice vote during plenary.

The bill was subsequently considered clause-by-clause before the Committee of the Whole House, after which the Majority Leader, Mr Yusuf Sherrif, moved for its third reading, seconded by the Minority Leader Mr Lukman Adeleye and supported unanimously.

The Clerk of the House, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin, then read the bill for the third time. 

The Speaker of the House, Mr Oludaisi Elemide, directed that a clean copy of the bill be transmitted to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his assent.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned stakeholders involved in the now-defunct Anchor Borrowers Programme over alleged continued illegal deductions from the personal savings of farmers who were enrolled in the scheme.

The Speaker , Mr Oludaisi Elemide issued the directive following a personal explanation raised by Minority Leader, Mr Lukman Adeleye, during plenary under Order 8, Rule 47.

The Assembly resolved that all relevant stakeholders should appear before it on Tuesday, 21st October, 2025.

Ogun State House of Assembly has approved the State Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF for 2026–2028 earlier forwarded to it by  Governor Dapo Abiodun, in preparation for the next fiscal year.

The financial framework was approved at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Oludaisi Elemide, following the presentation of the report by the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr Musefiu Lamidi.

The report was subsequently considered and adopted sector by sector, with allocations covering personnel, overhead, and capital expenditures for the State’s various Ministries, Departments and Agencies from the year 2026 to 2028.

The Speaker thereafter directed the Clerk to forward the Assembly’s resolution to Governor Abiodun to allow for early preparation of the 2026 State Budget and subsequent fiscal years.

Meanwhile, the Speaker had announced Mr Dickson Awolaja as the new Deputy Minority Leader of the State House of Assembly, replacing Mr Lukmon Atobatele, while Mr Waliu Owode is now the Deputy Minority Whip.

 Ogun State House of Assembly has acknowledged a correspondence  from the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun seeking the Assembly’s approval for the 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF for the State.

The Speaker, Mr Oludaisi Elemide, who read the Governor’s letter  titled: “Request for the approval of the 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF by the State House of Assembly”, noted that the request was in line with the Ogun State Fiscal Responsibility Law of 2020 as amended.

According to the letter, the Executive Council had considered and endorsed the prepared 2026- 2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF for the State.

The governor therefore urged the Assembly to consider and approve the framework to pave the way for the planning and budgetary process for the 2026 fiscal year and the outer years of 2027 and 2028.

The Speaker later referred the request to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriations for further legislative action.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has lauded Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for hosting what he described as a “masterpiece” opening ceremony of the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games.

Speaking with journalists at the Gateway International Airport in Iperu on his return to Abuja, Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event, praised the festival’s grandeur and the warm hospitality extended to over 20,000 participants from across Nigeria.

“The opening ceremony was truly spectacular, unlike anything I’ve witnessed before. Words cannot fully express our gratitude to Governor Abiodun for the immense resources, passion, and energy invested in showcasing Ogun State and Nigeria to the world,” he said.

Describing sports as a powerful tool for unity, Shettima emphasised its capacity to transcend ethnic, religious, and regional divides, fostering national cohesion.

He also applauded Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, for gracing the event with his presence and participation.

“At 91, Prof Soyinka remains mentally sharp and physically agile. His involvement is a celebration of excellence and a testament to Ogun’s legacy as a gateway to knowledge, tolerance, and unity,” Shettima noted.

The Vice President reaffirmed President Tinubu’s pride in Governor Abiodun’s efforts and commended the Ogun State Sports Commission for delivering a world-class event.

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun described the opening ceremony as one of the proudest moments of his administration, noting that the National Sports Festival, established in 1973, was envisioned as a platform to promote unity, discipline, leadership, and national consciousness among Nigerian youths.

“Our goal was to demonstrate our level of preparedness and prove that Nigeria can host an event of international standard. Yesterday’s ceremony reflected our vision, commitment, and pursuit of excellence,” the governor said.

Governor Abiodun added that the successful hosting of the event further cements Ogun State’s reputation, not just as Nigeria’s industrial hub but as a gateway to sports, tourism, and overall excellence.

“I believe this opening ceremony will remain a reference point for many years,” he concluded.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced a cash reward of 2.5 million naira for each gold medal won by Ogun State athletes at the National Sports Festival, NSF, set to commence on Sunday in the state.

The governor also pledged 1.5 million naira for each silver medal and 1 million naira for each bronze medal earned during the competition.

Governor Abiodun made the announcement during a visit to the Athletics Camp at Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, in the Ikenne Local Government Area.

While addressing the athletes, he further assured that every Ogun State athlete would receive a 50,000 naira incentive within 24 hours, to encourage them to bring glory to the state via their performance.

The governor praised the athletes as the best the state has to offer, stating that: “You are not here just to compete, but to win. We are not just hosting; we are hosting to win. You must bring the medals home.”

Governor Abiodun highlighted Ogun State’s legacy of producing exceptional sportsmen and women who have made the nation proud, commending the athletes for their dedication and discipline.

He also emphasised the state’s readiness to host the festival, noting that significant investments had been made in sports infrastructure.

This edition of the festival marks the first time all athletes are being camped together in preparation for the games.

He cited the newly renovated International Sports Arena in Abeokuta as a key facility capable of hosting international competitions, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to developing the state’s sports economy.

While acknowledging minor logistical challenges, Governor Abiodun urged the athletes to cooperate with the officials, assuring them that all issues would be promptly addressed.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has appointed the former Nigerian International Footballer, Mr Segun Odegbami, as the Grand Sports Ambassador of the Gateway State.

Governor Abiodun made the announcement while receiving members of the Guild of Sports Editors at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He noted that the appointment was in recognition of Chief Odegbami’s immense contributions to the development of sports in Nigeria.

The governor also revealed that the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, tagged “Gateway Games 2024,” will be hosted by Ogun State from May 16 to May 30 2025.

He emphasized that the festival is expected to be the best in the history of the event, with a major focus on talent discovery and the promotion of sporting excellence both in the state and across the country.

Governor Abiodun stated that the state government has invested heavily in state-of-the-art sports facilities across various locations to ensure a memorable experience for all participants.

For the first time in the history of the National Sports Festival, over 10,000 athletes from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, will be accommodated in a single location.

He added that adequate transportation logistics, including shuttle buses, have been arranged to ensure smooth movement of athletes and officials to various venues. In addition, comprehensive security measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property throughout the festival.

Speaking on the economic impact of the event, Governor Abiodun said the festival presents an opportunity to build a robust sports economy for the state.

He noted that local businesses, especially hotels and small-scale traders, are expected to enjoy significant patronage during the games.

The governor called on media professionals to support the state government through extensive coverage of the event, assuring them of the government’s readiness to collaborate with the media to ensure a successful hosting.

In his response, Mr Segun Odegbami expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for the honor and pledged to use his new role to further promote sports development in Ogun State.

The official Mascot and theme Song for the 22nd National Sports Festival have been unveiled with a call on the stakeholders to support the Local Organizing Committee, LOC, to make the sports mundial an unforgettable celebration of talent, unity and National pride. 

Governor Dapo Abiodun made the call during the unveiling of the Mascot at a colourful ceremony held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun who was represented by his deputy, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele explained that the unveiling was a bold testament of his administration towards delivering the most memorable, inclusive, and most inspiring National Sports Festival Nigerians have ever seen.

He pointed out that the mascot and the theme song reflected the energy, cultural heritage, and aspirations of the people of Ogun State. 

The Governor urged residents of the state to actively participate by attending events, cheering the athletes, and welcome guests with kindness and showcase the culture and hospitality that makes Ogun State a tourism attraction. 

In a remark, the Director-General, National Sports Commission, NSC, Mr Bukola Olopade expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness of Ogun state ahead of the fast approaching 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024, holding from May 16-30.

Mr Olopade, who is also  the Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee, MOC, assured participants that they would witness the best ever in the country. 

Earlier, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr Wasiu Isiaka had appreciated members of the Local Organizing Committee for working tirelessly to meet up with the time frame of the opening ceremony. 

Mr Isiaka maintained that Governor Abiodun has made significant investments in upgrading existing facilities and constructing new ones to meet world-class standards.

Members of some statutory commissions, whose list was earlier transmitted to the Assembly for screening by the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, have been admonished to develop strategies that will add value and turn around the fortunes of the statutory commissions for improved service delivery for the state public service.

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr Oludaisi Elemide, gave the admonition, while presiding over the screening of the nominees from the House of Assembly Service Commission, Local Government Service Commission, Teaching Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He stated that their wealth of experience was needed to further drive the vision of the commissions, upon their clearance by the House and inauguration by the governor.

The Speaker implored them to align their duties with the ISEYA mantra of the Dapo Abiodun-led administration. He also commends the governor for the qualities of nomination, including former state lawmakers and appointees who had previously served in various categories, including statutory commissions, local governments, and private practices.

He further admonished them to ensure sustained synergy between the statutory commissions and the state legislature, while developing guidelines and policies that will reposition the public service for optimum performance.

In their respective remarks, the nominees, who spoke to their profiles, assured that they would contribute their quota, while discharging their responsibilities with integrity, loyalty and sincerity of purpose. 

It would be recalled that Governor Dapo Abiodun had earlier transmitted a correspondence announcing the appointment to the board of commissions, including the Local Government Service Commission, having Mrs Olubukunola Onabanjo as Chairman, while Mr Lukman Adiro, Mr Martins  Ijaduoye, Mr Olatunde Osunbiyi and Olatunde Rufai would serve as members.

For the State Teaching Service Commission, Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu would serve as Chairman, while Mr Olanrewaju Majekodunmi, Mr Deola Akintonde, Mr Adeleke Salmon, Mrs Atinuke Bello and Mrs Kemi Oduwole as members.

The State House of Assembly Service Commission has Mr Suraj Adekunbi as Chairman, while Samuel Odukoya, Alhaji Fasiu Ajadi and Mr Folakemi Akintayo as members.

Also, the State Judicial Service Commission has Justice Mojisola Dipeolu as Chairman, Justice Femi-Segun Olusola, Mr. Olusina Ogungbade, SAN Adeyemi Ademuyiwa,  Dr Saheed Oyede and Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, as members.

Oyo State Governor, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde has felicitated the Muslim Ummah in Oyo State and across the country on the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitri 2025.

The governor congratulated the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the 2025 Ramadan.

Governor Makinde, who hailed the Muslim faithful for their endurance, faith, sacrifices and trust in Allah throughout the month of Ramadan, charged them to continue to uphold the lessons learnt during the holy month. 

He said: “I congratulate my brothers and sisters in Islam on the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitri, which signals the end of Ramadan

I particular laud them for the perseverance, faith and trust in Allah, sacrificial living and giving, good neighbourliness, among other virtues demonstrated before and during the fasting. 

“I want to charge them to continue to uphold these values; continue to pray and support the government at all levels and to continue to work with us to sustain the religious harmony we are enjoying in Oyo State. 

As an administration, we have made a commitment to continue to put the people’s interest first and to develop our great state in a sustainable way, but we cannot achieve this in an atmosphere of religious disharmony and intolerance

Similarly, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Muslims across the state and the nation on the successful completion of this year’s Ramadan fast, emphasizing the spiritual enrichment it has brought to the country.

In a statement marking the Eid-il-Fitr celebration, Governor Abiodun commended the Muslim community for their unwavering dedication to prayers, supplications, and acts of charity during the holy month.

He acknowledged the significant benefits these efforts have brought to the nation and expressed gratitude for their spiritual contributions.

The governor, particularly appreciated the steadfast support of the Muslim faithful in the state, recognizing their commitment to the state’s growth and development.

He assured them that their support remains deeply valued and would never be taken for granted.

Acknowledging the economic and security challenges faced by many Nigerians, including the Muslim community, Governor Abiodun expressed optimism that through continued prayers and a renewed commitment to national progress, positive change would emerge.

Also, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has congratulated Muslim faithful in the state and beyond on the successful completion of this year’s Ramadan period, describing the 29-day fasting period as a divine grace for spiritual renewal.

Governor Adeleke in a statement by his Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, rejoiced with Muslim faithfuls for the ease with which Allah makes the observance of one of the pillars of Islam, charging them to sustain the culture of giving and selflessness that characterized the Holy month.

The Governor enjoined Osun people to use the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitr to pray for enduring peace and sustainable development for the state and Nigeria.

He urged Muslims to use their respective prayers to seek the face of Allah to frustrate renewed efforts of some selfish political actors to throw the state into chaos out of desperation to seize power through the backdoor.

He advised the people not to be despaired by the antics of selfish politicians bent on reversing the trend of progress in the state, but maintaining faith in Allah who is the most powerful, declaring his unwavering commitment to the mission of moving the state to a greater height.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Nigerian Air Force ,NAF, to bolster security and foster aviation growth.

Governor Abiodun stated this on Monday during a meeting with the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, at the NAF Headquarters in Abuja.

During the discussions which focused on areas of mutual interest, particularly the development of the Gateway International Airport, Governor Abiodun emphasized that his vision was to position the Gateway International Airport as a key hub for trade, investment, and logistics.

He highlighted the critical role of the Nigerian Air Force in ensuring the security and smooth operation of the airport, and that the state would also to fostering strategic partnerships with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property while driving economic prosperity.

Governor Abiodun commended Air Marshal Abubakar for his proactive and responsive approach to the initiative.

Governor  Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has announced that an Independent Power Plant, IPP, capable of providing twenty-four hours of uninterrupted electricity to significant parts of Abeokuta, the state capital, will be ready for commissioning within the next eight weeks.

Governor Abiodun made this known after inspecting the thirty-megawatt power plant in Onijanganjangan, near Ewekoro. He emphasized that the project, developed in collaboration with private sector partners, represents the first phase of the Ogun State Light Up Project.

This initiative aligns with our commitment to ensuring a steady power supply to major cities and towns across Ogun State,” Abiodun stated.

While it may not cover all of Abeokuta initially, a substantial part of the city will enjoy 24-hour electricity, an unprecedented milestone in the state’s history.”

Commending the quality of work at the site, the governor highlighted that the power plant will primarily utilize compressed gas, with diesel as a backup fuel to guarantee operational continuity.

“We anticipate commencing soft commissioning using diesel within two to three weeks, while work continues extending the gas pipeline. In approximately six to eight weeks, the first phase of this power project will be fully completed and ready for official commissioning,” he assured.

He further explained that the plant will prioritize supplying electricity to key government institutions, including offices, healthcare facilities, government quarters, police stations, local government offices, and higher institutions. As capacity increases, private consumers and industries will also benefit.

Governor Abiodun noted that Ogun State’s venture into power generation, distribution, and transmission follows the federal government’s decision to remove electricity from the exclusive legislative list, granting states greater autonomy in the sector. He disclosed plans to establish similar power plants in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ota to expand access to reliable electricity.

To regulate activities within the power sector, the Ogun State House of Assembly has enacted a law establishing the Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission. This agency, the governor explained, will oversee electricity operations and ensure proper regulation for investors interested in the state’s power industry.

Project Manager Mr Selvin Leo confirmed that the plant is ninety per cent complete and assured that, with the necessary materials, equipment, and continued dedication of the workforce, the project will be delivered within schedule.

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has granted approval for the 2023 and 2024 promotion exercises for eligible civil and public servants in the state.

A total of 26,764 personnel from junior, senior, and management cadres across the state’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDAs, are expected to benefit from the promotion process, which will be conducted exclusively through oral interviews.

In a statement issued by the State Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, the promotion exercise encompasses various categories of civil and public servants, including employees within the core civil service, teaching and non-teaching staff of government secondary schools, primary school teachers, and staff of state-owned boards, corporations, and agencies, such as the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, OOUTH. The exercise also includes provisions for upgrades and transfers.

Additionally, the Governor has approved the December 2024 combined confirmation tests and compulsory public service examinations for officers in junior and senior cadres. These assessments, organized by the Bureau of Establishments and Training under the Office of the Head of Service, aim to facilitate the career progression of eligible officers.

Expressing gratitude to the Governor for his worker-friendly initiatives, Mr Onasanya commended Prince Abiodun’s commitment to enhancing the welfare and professional growth of the state’s workforce. He called on civil and public servants to remain dedicated to their duties in reciprocation of the Governor’s support.

Ogun state government has rewarded exceptional athletes who represented the state at the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State with over Seven Million naira as motivation.

Governor Dapo Abiodun while presenting the cheques to the athletes in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, pointed out the government would institutionalised reward for hard work and outstanding performances, especially in sports.     

Represented by Commissioner of Sports, Mr Wasiu Isiaka, Governor Abiodun attributed the successes recorded during the games and other competitions, to his administration’s resolve to take sports back to the grassroots.

The Governor revealed that his administration would use the National Sports Festival to lay a solid foundation for sports in the state, especially the school and grassroots sports, saying these are parts of the reasons the government was revamping stadia across the state.

Earlier, the Acting Director of Sports, Mr. Oluseyi Sonde had appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for his commitment to sports development in the state, urging the medalists to continue to strive for excellence, as their success was not just a testament of individual accomplishments, but a reflection of the potential within them.

Responding on behalf of the medalists, Ayomide Heritage, who emerged as the best wrestler in the 42kg category at the Youth Games, expressed gratitude to the governor for the kind gesture, noting that the financial reward would go a long way in boosting their career, promising to work hard and make the state proud in subsequent National and International competitions.

The gold medalists were presented with a cheque of N300,000, the silver medalists with N200,00O and the bronze medalists N 100,000.

Infrastructure

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has disclosed that his administration will continue to provide succor to the citizens and residents of the state by completing all outstanding projects of previous administration.

Governor Abiodun made the disclosure at the commissioning and electrification of the Hospital road, Ogijo in Sagamu local Government area of the state.

Speaking further, the Governor revealed that his administration has constructed over six hundred kilometres of road across the state in the last five years, adding that more roads would be commissioned at Iperu and Ilaro during the week.

According to the governor, the Ogijo community is one of the industrial areas of the state as it enjoys gas reticulation, stating that his administration has solved the electricity challenges that affected the community for decades through the provision of transformers and other electric accessories.

Governor Abiodun however called on the residents of the area to take charge of the road by ensuring that the drainage is not blocked due to the indiscriminate dumping of refuse as according to him, it is their tax that was used to construct it.

Meanwhile, the Ologijo of Ogijoland, Oba Kezeem Gbadamosi, who represented the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, in his goodwill remarks, said through an industrial hub, the area suffered many years of neglect as previous administrations did not pay attention to the community’s infrastructural needs, adding that with the commissioning of the road, the narrative has changed for the better.

While calling the governor’s attention to other deplorable roads in the area, the monarch appreciated the state government for ensuring that the road is well constructed with good drainage system, adding that the community has benefited from education, water and electrification projects.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, says the state’s Agro-Cargo International Airport would commence scheduled and non-scheduled flights in the next few weeks.

The governor made the disclosure while speaking at the 13th Gateway International Trade Fair breakfast meeting with chief executive officers, captains of industry, entrepreneurs, investors and stakeholders alike, in Abeokuta.

Abiodun noted that the approval process to get the airport running has reached an advanced stage, with the approval expected in few days’ time.

According to him, the airport is located in a Special Agro Processing Zone, adding that President Bola Tinubu has approved the Special Agro Processing Zone as a Free Trade Zone.

Abiodun also informed that his administration would soon be flagging off the Kajola Inland Container Terminal, noting that when fully operational, the terminal would allow investors situated within the state an opportunity to pick up their containers, process their raw materials and also export their goods efficiently.

Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun in a separate event however officially declared opened the ongoing 13th Gateway International Trade Fair at the M.K.O Abiola Trade Fair Complex, Laderin, Abeokuta the state capital. 

The 2024 edition of the Fair which already commenced on Friday April 19, 2024  will run till Monday April 29, 2024.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has congratulated the new Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, and all the State lawmakers for ensuring a rancour free process through which they elected the new Speaker.

The governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako Oyedele spoke when he received 19 members of the House who accompanied the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olusegun Oludaisi Elemide on a courtesy call on him this Tuesday in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said the members have a perogative on who they want to lead them at any point in time.

He commended the seamless manner in which they elected the new Speaker, reaffirming that the lawmakers have the right to decide who would lead them in a democracy.

According to him, ” it is worthy of note that the executive has not interfere in the process to make sure that you are comfortable in what you want to do, that led you to making your decision.

 And we support you in the decision that you make. 

He said, ” you have gone through the progress in a way that is extemporary. This is not the first time in this country that members of a particular legislature has decided to change their leader.

He emphasized that the executive arm will continue to adhere strictly to the concept of Separation of Power and the rule of law in it relationship with the House of Assembly.

The governor pledged that his administration would support and work closely with the legislature to maintain the harmonious relationship that has existed in the last four and a half years.

In his remarks, the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elemide said the House would continue to compliment the executive and avoid the unnecessary mudslinging that may hindered the progress of the State.

” we are not going to fight neither are we going to compromised the executive. In the legislature, there is room for lobbying. We will lobby where we need to lobby, we will assert where we need to assert and we will let the whole people of the State know that we are there for them.

” To my colleagues, I would not want to betray their confidence that they have in me, it is going to be we and not I. I am just the first among equals and we were voted in from our various Constituencies. I will take cognisant that we are equal.

” I will be there to speak for them and I will speak whatever they put in my mouth”, Elemide concluded.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke says he will refocus attention on cushioning current economic hardship as well as building the state economic base.

Governor Adeleke who stated this in his New Year broadcast to felicitate with the people of Osun and usher in year 2024, said both goals are achievable as his government have demonstrated in the last one year.

While noting that Nigeria is going through national economic crisis, Governor Adeleke commended President Bola Tinubu for his relentless action towards economic restoration.

He said Osun state, through the National Economic Council, is collaborating with the federal government to support initiatives targeted at reducing inflation, cost of living and stabilising the national economy.

The Governor assured that the various intervention funds received from the Federal Government and development partners would be carefully applied for various purposes as designed, ranging from infrastructure, wage award, transport logistics to social investment as manifested in the many completed and ongoing grassroots development projects in the state.

Governor Adeleke said he remained firmly focus on the Five Point Agenda under which he was elected into office, which are transparency and accountability, open government, localisation, responsive leadership and paying attention to citizens’ aspirations.

The Governor further solicited the continued support of the people to achieve common agenda for collective prosperity promising that he would continue to run a listening and responsive administration, a government of the people ,by the people and for the people.

Similarly, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has called on the people of the State to embrace year 2024, with renewed hope as his administration is working hard to make life bearable for them.

The governor, who made the call in his New Year broadcast to the people of the state, noted that 2023 had been a challenging year for many Nigerians as a result of the precarious economic situation in the country.

Governor Abiodun, however, lauded the people for remaining steadfast despite all odds.

Congratulating the people for making it into the New Year, Governor Abiodun said his administration would redouble its efforts towards meeting their needs, pledging to do so with sincerity, humility, and integrity.

He promised to govern with unwavering dedication, equity, inclusiveness, and accountability while upholding the rule of law.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Governor Abiodun emphasized that his government has achieved significant milestones, covering substantial grounds across the state, assuring that all ongoing projects would be completed while new frontiers would be opened under the “ISEYA” mantra, even in the face of global socio-economic challenges.

He noted that power supply is being enhanced and expanded to improve electricity, while the state remained the first in Nigeria to deploy Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueled buses, which has resulted in reduced transport fares.

Governor Abiodun stated that Over 700,000 tree seedlings have been planted in the forest reserves to combat deforestation, while over 40,000 farmers have been empowered to ensure food security and promote agribusiness

He announced the restoration of water supply to major towns, especially Abeokuta and its environs, as the results of complete rehabilitation of the Arakanga waterworks and pipeline reticulation, just as he said over 5,000 beneficiaries were issued the new one-page double-sided CofOs.

On healthcare delivery, the governor said over 100 primary healthcare centers in 100 wards were renovated and equipped; Ilera-Dero, a Health Insurance Scheme, was established, while over 3,000 affordable housing units were constructed across the state.

The governor further disclosed that over 60,000 women have been empowered through various intervention programmes, adding that over 1,200 classrooms have been reconstructed, 5,000 teachers recruited, and thousands of desks and chairs provided to make learning environment conducive.

Governor Abiodun called for more support and prayers from the people, assuring that his government would fulfil all the promises made in the course of campaign and electioneering, leading to the 2023 general elections.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says his administration will continue to collaborate with security agencies in the state towards finding solutions to the various security challenges confronting the state and the country as a whole.

Governor Abiodun stated during the fourth quarter of the State Directors of Security Conference, South West zone, held in Abeokuta.

While expressing his concerns about the rapid increase of cultism in Ogun State and kidnapping activities in border areas between Ogun and Oyo, The Governor promised to continue to support operations of security agencies with logistics and equipment along with other Southwest Governors.

Governor Abiodun hinted to the security agencies about the plan of the Southwest governors to lighten up the Lagos-Ibadan expressway by mounting streetlights and ensuring security cameras on the roads.

Governor Dapo Abiodun urged the security agencies to intensify their efforts at clamping down on evil perpetrators, especially during this festive season when crime rates were usually high.

Earlier, the Ogun State Director of Security Service,  Folashade Adekayaoja said the security commanders in the state had over the years fostered a formidable synergy to intimidate criminals.

Mrs Adekayaoja promised to intensify the collaborative efforts of the security agencies in tackling crimes to its bearest minimum

It was a celebration of a life well spent as eminent Nigerians on Thursday thronged Erunwon, Ijebu, Ogun State as the remains of a foremost illustrious son of the State Pa Christopher Ogunbanjo was laid to rest at his residence.

Our correspondent reports that a funeral service had earlier been held at the church of Epiphany, Egba Anglican Diocese, Erunwon, Ijebu, which had in attendance dignitaries such as the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Minister of finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, two former governors of Ogun State Aremo Olusegun Osoba and Senator Ibikunle Amosun amongst others.

Commenting on the life and times of the late icon, President Bola Tinubu who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume described Pa Ogunbanjo as a distinguished figure in Nigeria’s legal and business communities, whose multifaceted roles as an industrialist, corporate lawyer and philanthropist left indelible impressions in these important fields as he empowered and mentored numerous professionals from Nigeria and beyond. 

Also, in another remark, the executive governor of Ogun State Prince Dapo Abiodun who eulogized the late philanthropist described him as a man of honour, who thrived on self-discipline and moderation.

In his sermon, Venerable Ebenezer Abiala of the Ijebu Anglican diocese said, that Pa Christopher Ogunbanjo lived a fulfilled as he served God diligently during his lifetime.

Venerable Abiala however urged all Christian faithfuls to move closer to their maker in absolute service, dedication to God and humanity.

Prince Christopher Ogunbanjo was born on 14 December  1923 and passed on 7th October 2023 at the age of 99.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved constituency projects for the 236 councillors in the state.

Prince Abiodun made this known at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, when he received the councillors who were on ground to pass a vote of confidence on his administration.

The Governor said the approval was in fulfilment of his promise to ensure the councillors execute projects in their various constituencies as they are the closest to the people at the grassroots.

Governor Abiodun, who recently approved the full payment of furniture allowance to the 236 councillors, also promised to ensure the continuous empowerment of the councillors.

Governor Abiodun also appreciated the judiciary for upholding the rule of law and called on opposition members to join his administration in moving the state to the next level.

Governor Abiodun, who noted that Ogun State was currently the fastest growing economy in the country, promised that his administration would spend the next three and half years building on the solid foundation laid in the first term.

Earlier, the Chairman, Ogun State Forum of Councillors, Mr Olarenwaju Adeleye thanked the governor for approving and paying their full furniture allowance.

Mr Adeleye also acknowledged Governor Abiodun for executing at least a project in each of the 236 wards of the state and commended him for not abandoning projects left unfinished by the immediate past administrations in the state.

The Ogun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has affirmed the election of Prince Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the duly elected Governor of the State.

At the end of the proceeding which lasted about 11 hours, the three – member panel, led by Justice Hamidu Kunaza, dismissed the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Chief Ladi Adebutu, challenging the victory of Dapo Abiodun in the March 18, 2023 governorship election.

The PDP and its candidate, Chief Adebutu had petitioned the Tribunal, accusing the INEC, Governor Abiodun and the APC of non compliance with the Electoral Act and corrupt practices during the election, alleging that the governor did not win the majority of votes cast during the election.  

Justice Kunaza who read the lead judgment at about 8.15pm during the Tribunal sitting at Isabo, Abeokuta, held that the petitioners did not successfully prove the allegations of non compliance with the Electoral Act and had not discharged the burden of proof. 

Justice Kunaza maintained that the petitioners failed to prove beyond reasonable doubts, the allegations of non compliance, over voting, disenfranchisement of voters, non qualification of Prince Dapo Abiodun and corrupt practices during the polls.

In separate reactions, Counsels to the APC, Professor Taiwo Osipitan and that of the INEC, Dr Remi Olarubora said the indepth judgement was a landmark and the best history. 

Counsels to the petitioners declined to speak to newsmen as they made their way out of the venue with many party chieftains and supporters while the state deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako – Oyedele who thanked the people for standing firm with the present administration led those who thronged the court in support of Governor Abiodun and the APC.

There were anxiety in Isabo Magistrate Court, Abeokuta, and environs as security personnel have been stationed as early as 6:am on Saturday at strategic places as the Ogun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal delivers its judgement.

The Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP and its candidate, Mr Ladi Adebutu, had filed a petition against the election of Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress APC as Governor of Ogun state.

The Three-man Panel headed by Justice Hamidu Kunaza is set to deliver judgement on the petition filed  by PDP and  Adebutu against the victory of Abiodun at the Saturday, March 18 2023 election.

Radio Nigeria reports that the State Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako -Oyedele, Deputy Chief of Staff to  Governor Abiodun, Mr Toyin Taiwo, Senator representing Ogun West at the National Assembly, Mr Olamilekan Adeola, Member House of Representatives, Mr Tunji Akinosi were sighted already seated at the Court room.

It was observed that the road leading to the court premises were blocked by security operatives including the police, DSS , NSCDC and Amotekun Corps.

Some party loyalists who were prevented from entering the court premises were seen hanging around the court.
