Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Ekiti State has distributed the sensitive materials meant for this Saturday’s Governorship Election in the state.

The materials were distributed at the INEC state office in Ado Ekiti in the presence of journalists, party and security agents to the Electoral officers in the sixteen local governments of the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Adeniran Tella who distributed the materials said the electoral officers would take the items to their councils where it would be sent to the polling units on Saturday morning.

Some of the materials distributed were, Ballot papers, Result sheets, Booklets, , Forms EC 8A, B, C, D,E, forms EC 4zero G, 4 zero G1 and 2.

He expressed the hope that there would be no late arrival of materials to polling units on Saturday.

Dr Tella said the ballot papers were coloured coded for each local government in order to prevent Electoral fraud.

He added that the result sheets were also customized according to the polling units.

 Some of the party agents including Mr Kayode Babade of the APC, Mr kehinde Adeniyi of the ADC and IPAC Chairman in Ekiti State, Mr Ifedayo Iyanuwura lauded INEC for the transparent manner in which the materials were distributed.

The popular broadcaster with the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State, Remi Okunola known as Alausa special who was declared missing early today has been found.

However, the victim seems not to be fine as she is said to be in a critical condition.

According to her relatives, she was brought by some persons in Ado Ekiti and could not talk.

She is currently on admission at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital Ado Ekiti.

The Independent NationaI Electoral Commission says the 2022 Electoral Act will be its guiding principle in the conduct of June 18 governorship election in Ekiti State.

INEC NationaI Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye made this known in Ado Ekiti while declaring open a capacity building organized for journalists in the state.

Mr Okoye told men of the pen profession to familiarize themselves with the new Electoral Act so as to cover the election successfully.

He appealed to them to shun fake news and other acts capable of undermining the smooth and peaceful conduct of the poll.

On their parts, two aides to the INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi and Professor Bolade Eyinla reassured the people of Ekiti State that the electoral umpire would not disappoint them on June 18.

Earlier, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Dr Adeniran Tella who spoke through the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Femi Akinbiyi said the workshop was put together to equip the journalists with necessary information ahead of the election, urging them to abide by with they learnt at the training.

In his remarks, the NUJ Chairmam in Ekiti State, Mr Rotimi Ojomoyela said a task force had been constituted to fish out any fake journalist in Ekiti State during the election.

Ekiti State Governor,  Dr Kayode Fayemi,  has appointed fourteen  new Permanent Secretaries, two General Managers and six Executive Secretaries, 
The chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode announced this in a Statement made available to Radio Nigeria in Ado Ekiti.
According to the statement, the Governor approved the appointments after the beneficiaries scaled through examinations in ICT, Civil Service Procedures and General Knowledge.
The  new Permanent Secretaries:are, Johnson Oluwole Adeola, Mrs Taiwo Modupe Akinbolawa , Mr Babatunde Patrick Adesola, Mrs Omotola Kikelomo Faseluka, Mr Tajudeen Gbenga Adejumo, Mr Emmanuel Babatunde Jegede, Mr Oluwadare Julius Jolumo and Mrs Oyeyemi Oyenike Kayode-Ojo.
Others are, Mrs Mercy Bosede Adaran, Dr Olasunkanmi Alabi, Mr Michael O. Omolayo, Mr Adeyinka Victor Arogundade, Mr Aderemi Oladele Ogunsemoyin and Mrs Olusola, Adeluyi-Femi

The Management of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti EKSU has announced the reopening of the institution for academic activities.

EKSU management took the decision at its meeting held on monday, 23rd May, 2022.

A statement by the instruction’s Head, Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, Mr Bode Olofinmuagun said the management discussed the impact of the ongoing national strike embarked upon by all the four staff unions as it affects the University vis a vis academic and other activities.

According to him, the Management noted the pains of the students and parents as a result of the ongoing protracted industrial action.

He noted further that one academic session (2021/2022) of admission is still outstanding, while the second semester of the 2020/2021 academic session is yet to be concluded.

Moreover, the admission process for the 2022/2023 academic session will commence soonest.

In the interest of the students, parents, guardians and indeed the society at large as well as the survival of the university, Management decided to reopen the institution for normal academic activities with effect from Tuesday, 24th May, 2022.

Ten thousand, two hundred and sixty, (10,260) ad-hoc staff and personnel of INEC are to be engaged for the conduct of the  June 18 Governorship election in Ekiti State.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Adeniran Tella made this known to newsmen in Ado Ekiti after a road-show where residents of the state capital were sensitized on the need to be peaceful during the coming election.

He explained that the personnel which comprises, INEC staff, Corps Members and some Youths were being trained ahead of the exercise.

Dr Tella also announced that ninety five percent of the non sensitive materials had been dispatched to the sixteen local Government Areas while the sensitize ones would arrive a day to the exercise.

The REC charged people of Ekiti State not to hesitate to come out enmasse during the election and also be peaceful to ensure a hitch free poll.

He made it clear that INEC would work with the police and sister security agencies to deliver Violent free election in Ekiti State.

However, some of the residents of the areas visited in Fajuyi, Okeisa, Ojumose, Okeiyinmi and Oja oba  areas of Ado Ekiti said all eyes were on INEC, hence it must live up to the expectations.

Ekiti State Government has approved the appointment of Prince Adesanmi Adebayo Michael from the Ojopekun Ruling House as the new Ologotun of Ogotun Ekiti in Ekiti South West Local Government Area.

Government also approved the appointment of Prince Ojo Amos Idowu from the Ikumoluyi Ruling House as the new Alaaye of Aaye-Ekiti in Ido/Osi Local Government Area.

In a statement in Ado Ekiti, the State Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Mr Akin Omole disclosed that the approval was part of the decisions taken at the virtual meeting of the State Executive Council after ascertaining that all required customary and legal steps had been taken to choose the new traditional rulers.

He stressed that the ratification of the appointments was made after clearance from the Ministry of Justice.

Mr Omole added that, the Council also authorized the publication of legal notices of the appointments in the State official gazette.

The Commissioner recalled that the Ologotun’s throne became vacant on September 29, 2021 following the demise of Oba Samuel Oyebade while the Alaaye’s stool became vacant on August 30, 2021 sequel to the passing of Oba Theophilus Adegoke Ogunbiyi of the Bejide Ruling House.

As June 18 Governorship election in Ekiti state is exactly one month today, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says two hundred and sixty eight thousand,  four hundred and sixty ( 268,460) permanent voter’s cards, PVCs  are yet to be collected in the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Adeniran Tella made this known in Ado Ekiti at the presentation of soft copies of list of registered voters to leaders of political parties that will participate in the election.

 Dr Tella told the gathering that Ekiti had nine hundred and eighty nine thousand, two hundred and two, (989, 202) registered voters out of which seven hundred and twenty thousand, seven hundred and fifty two (720, 742) of them had obtained their PVCs.

He used the forum to appeal to all stakeholders to mobilize owners of uncollected PVCs to get their cards at INEC offices in the council areas before the election.

Dr Tella also reassured the people of Ekiti state that their votes would count, hence they must have confidence in the ability of the Commission to deliver credible and acceptable exercise.

In his presentation, INEC’s Deputy Director, Voter’s Registry, National Headquarters, Abuja, Dr Paul Ayaeze said names of those who failed to complete their registration and others who engaged in multiple registration had been removed from the voter’s register.

On her part, INEC Deputy Director in charge of Information Communication Technology, National Headquarters, Mrs Abimbola Oladunjoye informed the stakeholders that Bi- modal Voters Accreditation System, BVAS used in Anambra Governorship election would be deployed to Ekiti state, adding that people of the state should not expect Card Readers Machine.

In their brief remarks, the Chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Mr Ifedayo Iyaniwura and other leaders of political parties in attendance lauded INEC on its preparation ahead of the election and called for adequate security before, during and after the poll.

It is the prayer of every human being while setting out everyday not to encounter evil, but reverse is the case earlier on Wednesday, for a commercial Motorcyclist popularly called ”Akure” as he was knocked down by a private car along Ado/Afao Ekiti road.

The accident which involved a Toyota car, Tipper and the motorcyclist occurred at a sharp bend close to Elemi River.

Eyewitnesses told Radio Nigeria that, it would take the Grace of God for the commercial Motorcyclist to survive the accident, as he sustained high degree of injuries on his head and other parts of his body before he was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

They blamed the accident on excessive speeding on the part of the motorist who knocked down the okada rider and thereafter hit one of the Tippers packed beside the road.

The witnesses used the forum to call on concerned authorities to mandate owners of Tippers parked beside the road where the accident occurred to relocate to another place.

They noted that, the Tippers could cause another accident on the route if urgent attention was not taken.

Schools in Oyo, Ekiti states fully resumed for third term academic session.

Some schools visited in Ibadan metropolis  experienced massive turn out compared to the partial resumption by students last week.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, the principal of Oba Akinbiyi High school Oremeji Ibadan, Mrs Folashade Ayodele and the headmistress of C and S Basic school one Mokola Ibadan Mrs Elizabeth Akinlade expressed satisfaction on the level of turnout of their students.

Also speaking, Principal of community Grammar school Mokola, Ibadan Mrs Swaibat Bello who decried failure of students to resume last week Thursday, called on parents and guardians to always adhere to government’s resumption date for effective teaching and learning.

The head of schools urged parents and guardians to equip their wards with necessary learning skills for excellent academic performance.

In the same vein, schools in Ekiti State re-opened for the third term academic session today, as students and pupils trooped out in large number this morning to their various schools.  
According to some schools visited, Radio Nigeria observed that, students and pupils were happy to resume for the last term in 2021/2022 academic session. 

 Early in the morning, school buses were  going round to pick students and pupils to their various schools.       
Songs and prayers were offered to usher in the new term while academic activities have begun in most of the schools.

Some of the places visited are SAM-JEWEL Nursery and Primary school, new prisons Road, Community Primary School, Elemi, Anglican High School, Housing road and Muslim College, Oke-Ila, all in Ado Ekiti.

In an interview, some of the students expressed happiness over the resumption.    

Also, the proprietor of SAM-JEWEL school, Mr Emmanuel Oluyemi said the turn out of students was commendable, saying that,      academic activities had commenced without wasting  time.

Two young lovers have been found dead in a room at Ikingbinsin area of Ado Ekiti.

Radio Nigeria reports that, death of the two has remained a mystery as no one could ascertain what led to it.

Though witnesses said the man was sick and taken to hospital but he was discharged and brought home by his siblings.

According to witnesses, the lady came visiting and decided to stay with him only for both of them to be found dead the next day.

Ekiti State Police Command said, details of the incident would be communicated to newsmen later.

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti has granted bail to one Pastor Noah Abraham Adelegan of Christ High Commission Ministry, Omuo Oke Ekiti.

Pastor Abraham was arraigned on one count charge of false pretense and intent to defraud members of his church.

The charge reads, that you Pastor Noah Abraham Adelegan on 27th April, 2022 at Omuo Oke Ekiti in Omuo Magisterial District, did by false pretense and intent to defraud, presented yourself to your congregation at Christ High Commission Ministry, Omuo Oke Ekiti as capable of taking them to heaven before rapture, upon payment of money ranging from N300, 000-N310, 000.

According to the Police, the offence contravenes Section 416 of the Criminal law of Ekiti State, 2012.

Requesting for the bail application, counsel to the defendant, Adunni Olanipekun prayed court to grant his client bail adding that he is ready to provide reliable sureties and ensure his availability in court.

However, the Police prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade did not oppose the application but asked the court to exercise its discretion in granting or refusing the bail.

In his ruling, Magistrate Titilola Olaolorun granted bail to the defendant in the sum N100, 000 with two sureties in the like sum, saying the sureties must possess Nigerian National Identity Card.

The matter has been adjourned till 24th of this month for mention.

Some candidates sitting for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB in Ekiti State have lamented over the malfunctioning of the machines using for accreditation and computer set meant for the examination.

Radio Nigeria correspondent who monitored the exercise in Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti, EKSU reports that, as at eleven o‘clock in the morning the candidates were yet to commence the examination.

In an interview, some of the candidates expressed dissatisfaction over the development and called on JAMB management to proffer solution to such, as the examination continues.

Also, parents of some of the candidates at the EKSU centre including Prince Kunle Adeniyi and Mrs Rose Ogundele described the development as uncalled for.

Meanwhile, at the Ekiti Anglican Diocesan High School, Ile Abiye CBT centre and Phoenix CBT centre Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti, the examination went smoothly as there was no case of computer system malfunctioning as confirmed by some of the candidates.

The examination started as scheduled in other centres visited in Ado and outside the state capital, as the first and second batches students have sat for the examination.

Radio Nigeria observed the presence of security operatives, particularly officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, at the centres visited.

Ekiti State has twelve CBT centres located in Ado , Oye, Ijero, Ikere, Igede and ikole Ekiti.

JAMB UTME which started today is expected to end on the sixteenth of this month with about two million candidates registered for the Examination nationwide.

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced a 42 year old Omoniyi Ademola Stephen  to death by hanging for killing a monarch.

The convict was arraigned on one count charge of murder contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2012.

The charge reads, Omoniyi Ademola Stephen on the 20th day of August, 2018 at Odo Oro Ekiti in Ikole Ekiti Judicial Division, murdered His Royal Majesty, Oba Gbadebo Ibitoye Olowoselu ll, the Onise of Odo-Oro Ekiti.

One of the Chiefs who testified before the court said, ‘’we were at the palace on that day for Onise in Council meeting, around 7:00 a.m., before the commencement of the meeting, Omoniyi Ademola Stephen entered the palace and sat on Kabiyesi’s seat but the Chiefs frowned at his action and drove him away.

After the meeting, late Onise in company of his male clerk were trekking back to the main palace, Ademola came out of his hiding and attacked Kabiyesi with a knife on the road and stabbed him to death, before that day he has been parading himself as the king of the town, he concluded.

To proof his case, the state counsel, Adegboyega Morakinyo called five witnesses and tendered a medical report, statements of the convict, knife and rope among others as exhibits while the convict spoke in his own defence through his counsel Tope Salami and called no witness.

In his judgment, Justice Olukayode Ogundana dispelled the notion that the defendant is insane, consequently, the defendant, Omoniyi Ademola Stephen was sentenced to death by hanging.

Ekiti State Government has postponed school resumption earlier scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday May 4.


The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi announced this in a statement in Ado Ekiti.


Dr Olomojobi said public private primary and secondary schools in the state will now resume next week Monday May 9.


She advised school authorities, parents, guardians, students, pupils and other stakeholders to comply with the new date of resumption.

Agriculture

In a bid to curb the spread of white flies affecting cassava farms, the federal government has distributed some farm inputs to farmers in Ondo, Edo and Ekiti States.

The items included spraying machines and insecticides.

White fly infestation was recorded in some cassava farms in Ondo State last year.

Addressing the farmers during a lecture at the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, FECA, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mohammad Abubakar described the white fly as a threat to food security and encouraged farmers noticing yellowish leaves symptoms to act promptly.

Represented by the ministry’s coordinator in Ondo State, Mr Tony Otuonye, the minister maintained that the inputs coupled with the lecture was to sensitize farmers on effects and solution to the problem of white fly on farmlands.

Also, the Desk Officer for Cassava, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Abuja, Mr Raji Hakeem and the FECA provost, Dr Akinyemi Fadimu explained that efforts were on to train middle level farmers on crops that could be resistant to diseases to ensure food security.

Two of the beneficiaries, Mrs Faith Akinsulire from Ondo State and Mr Kunle Ojo from Ekiti State appreciated the federal government for the gesture saying such would improve food sufficiency.

Contrary to the speculations that some policemen in the zone are planning to embark on strike action, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 17 comprising Ekiti and Ondo States, AIG Ene Okon, says there are no plans by policemen attached to the Zone to embark on such industrial action.
Mr Okon disclosed this in Akure, the Ondo state capital, when the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, visited the State Police Command as part of efforts to stop the planned strike action.

The AIG stated that policemen under his supervision would not leave work undone.

In his reaction, the Inspector General of Police, represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Southwest, Mr Babatunde Kokumo, advised against mutiny.

The IGP who said the salary increase for police personnel was being processed, noted that efforts were on to exit the police from the current Contributory Pension Scheme.

On his part, the Ondo state Police Commissioner, Mr Oyeyemi Oyediran, assured the IGP that policemen under his command rejected the strike action.

Two thousand five hundred free JAMB E-Registration pin is to be distributed to Eligible indigent students of Ekiti State to encourage them to further their tertiary education.

The wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi announced this in Ado Ekiti at the Flag ceremony of the gesture.

She observed that despite the huge financial implications of this educational programme, the government would not relent at employing good strategies to bequeath a remarkable legacy of functional and qualitative education to future leaders.

The governor’s wife, therefore, expressed the hope that the beneficiaries would reward the state government by preparing adequately for the examination and having outstanding results.

“You will recall that this administration distributed 3000 forms in 2019, 2000 in 2020 and 2500 in 2021 to students who meet the criteria for the free forms, she added.

The State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Dr Bimpe Aderiye, lauded government selfless services most especially in the Education sector through scholarship programmes and motive excellence among students.

A representative of the state Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education, Mrs Jolu Adejuwon said the eligible indigent student were chosen, haven made six credit pass at not more than a sitting either in NECO or WASSCE.

She urged the beneficiaries to maximize the opportunity to gain admission into their preferred Higher Institution of Learning and shun all forms of malpractices during the examination.

One of the beneficiaries, Oluyimide Ogundana appreciated the gesture on behalf of his colleagues promising that the state would not be let down in the coming JAMB examination.

A poultry farmer in Ekiti State, name withheld  has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Ago-Aduloju area of Ado Ekiti.

According to witnesses, the farmer had just rounded off work on his  farm and entered his vehicle but unknown to him that the evil men were already waiting for him.

The man was said to be shot on the head while the killers fled.

When contacted, the Spokesperson for Ekiti State Police Command, ASP Sunday Abutu confirmed the incident.

He said “A distress call was received yesterday being 09/03/2022 at about 18:30hrs by Odo Ado division that a man was shot by two unidentified gunmen right in front of his poultry farm at Ago Adeloju area.

“A team of police personnel had moved to the scene where the victim was met in the pool of his blood.

“He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

ASP Abutu said that, investigation had commenced to unravel the identities of the perpetrators, and bring them to book.

Long queues are gradually reducing from filling stations within Ado Ekiti metropolis.

Radio Nigeria reporter gathered that users of the product are now patronizing Petrol stations where fuel is being dispensed at the rate of 162 naira to 165 naira per litre.

It was also gathered that, some filling stations still selling the product above 200 naira per litre but consumers failed to patronize them.

Meanwhile, a cross section of residents of Ado Ekiti has appealed to the Task Force on petroleum products to move round the state capital and shut any filling station caught selling above the approved pump price of 162 naira per litre.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, Mr Ade Olaiya and Mrs Bose Ajayi wondered why Task Force refused to close any filling station contravening Government directives on pump price, alleging that they may have been bribed to kick against the right thing.

The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC has called on government to address issue of fuel scarcity in the country as a matter of urgency.

The NLC Chairman in Ekiti State Comrade Kolapo Olatunde made the call in a statement in Ado-Ekiti.

According to Comrade Olatunde, “The untold hardship created by fuel scarcity in our clime is becoming unbearable on the masses, No one seems to understand the truth of the root cause”.

“Is it the presence of methanol as adulteration as being speculated by some people? Or scarcity due to recent resistance to jacking up the PMS pump price”?

“It is an embarrassment that the citizens of a Nation blessed with crude oil are suffering queueing till eternity for petrol on daily basis without any form of solace”.

The NLC Chairman said it was high time government at all levels found lasting solutions to the problem in order to make life bearable for citizens.

Comrade Olatunde also called on the Ekiti state government to address incessant hold up at Adebayo road, Ado-Ekiti by deploying relevant enforcement agents to maintain law and order on the route.

The Ekiti State NLC Chairman also demanded regular payment of salary and deductions, implementation of 2017, 2018, and 2019 promotions and commencement of promotion exercise for 2020 and 2021, and payment of leave bonuses.

Other requests of the union include a complete implementation of minimum wage for levels 13 to 17 and payment of pensioners’ entitlements, in order to cushion the effect of the current hardship on residents of Ekiti State.

Governor Fayemi advocates support for NYSC Bill, as scheme sanctions 50 corps members in Ekiti

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State wants governors across the federation to support the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Trust Fund Bill currently at the National Assembly for quick passage.

Governor Fayemi made the call in Ado Ekiti while speaking at the Passing Out Parade for about two thousand 2021 Batch A Stream One Corps Members serving in Ekiti State in the last one year.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Fayemi who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Michael Awopetu, explained that the passage of the bill would enable the scheme to deliver more on its mandates.

He charged the Corps members to maximize the values added to them during the one year service and be an agent of positive change to foster national development.

Earlier, the Coordinator of NYSC in Ekiti State, Mrs Nnena Chikieze applauded the Corps members for their cooperation in the last one year, urging them to be good ambassadors of the scheme.

Mrs Chikieze hinted that fifty Corps members were found guilty of various offences while 44 others would have their service year extended by weeks and six of them would be remobilized.

Highlights of the ceremony were presentation of state award to the best Corp members, parades and cultural display.

Barely twenty four hours after Oyo and Osun StaEkiti States witnessed the first rain of the year, Ekiti state has also joined in welcoming the 1st shower in the year 2022.

There has been great desire for a down pour by residents of the state in recent times, due to intensity of heat being experienced

The outcry was much among the farmers who claimed that further delay in the rain could be dangerous for their yams.

However, succor came the way of the concerned citizens as the rain which had been giving signs in the last three days drizzled for about twenty minutes.

Though it was not recorded in all parts of the state, it drizzled in areas such as, Ilokun, Adebayo, Olorunsogo, Basiri, Ijadu and Similoluwa.

Residents however look forward to having a downpour soonest.

Investigations are ongoing to unravel the identity of the fellow who sent suspected political thugs to Ekiti ahead of the state PDP primary election held last week Saturday, 29th of January 2022.

 Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr.Sunday Abutu made this known at the police headquarters in Ado Ekiti on Monday, while parading ninety-eight suspected political thugs arrested at Ita wure junction, by officers of the Nigerian Army on the eve of the primary election of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP

Addressing journalists, the Ekiti State Police Command’s Image Maker, Mr Abutu said the suspects confessed that they were sent to Ekiti by someone in Ibadan to disrupt the primary election of the PDP.

’’Though they failed to mention the name of the person, investigations are ongoing to unravel the identity of the fellow who sent the suspected political thugs to Ekiti’, the PPRO said.

Mr Abutu listed weapons recovered from the suspects to include twenty-one cutlasses, eleven guns of different types, live cartridges and charms.

He said the suspects would be charged to court for immediate prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others.

Ekiti State Police Command has paraded two suspected serial rapists who also specialize in blackmailing their victims.

The suspects according to the spokesperson of the Ekiti State Police Command, ASP Sunday Abutu were arrested after one of their victims summoned courage and made a formal report to the police.

According to the PPRO, “On 18/01/2022 at about 1000hrs, the Command’s JWC of the State CID received a complaint from a 20year old lady (name withheld) that one Anthony Oluwatosin Adedokun 40years of Ajebamidele Area, Ado-Ekill but a native of Emure-Ekiti forcefully had carnal knowledge of her in his apartment alongside one Ayoola Talwo Ayodele 44yrs, a timber contractor of Agric Olope Area, Ado-Ekiti but also a native of Emure-Ekiti.

“Police investigation revealed that the victim and Anthony Oluwatosin Adedokun met through the internet (face book) and started a relationship since sometime in 2021. The suspect, Anthony Oluwatosin Adedokun presented himself to her as a Police Officer who can assist her to join the Nigeria Police Force.

“In the process, the victim solicited for a financial help of Ten Thousand Naira (#10,000:00) only from Anthony Oluwatosin Adedokun who obliged but insisted that the victim must come to his house in Ado-Ekiti to get the money in cash.

“Further investigation revealed that the victim decided to visit Anthony Oluwatosin Adedokun in his house on 17/01/2022 and the suspect decided to take her to the house of Ayoola Taiwo Ayodele where he had carnal knowledge of her against her wish.

“Surprisingly, Ayoola Taiwo Ayodele videotaped them and threatened to blackmail the victim if she refused to have sex with him also. Ayoola Taiwo Ayodele went ahead and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her in the same room and on the same bed.

“Furthermore, the two (2) suspects forcefully booked an appointment with the victim to come back on 21/01/2022 for another round of sex or risk sending her sex video to the internet for the world to see.

Abutu noted that during interrogation, the two (2) suspects arrested confessed to the commission of the crime and other similar crimes.

He said the  suspects would be charged to court as soon as possible for prosecution.

Abutu stressed that the  Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP. Tunde Mobayo reiterating the Command’s commitment to the safety of lives and properties of the citizens as well as the fight against Gender-based violence and Human Right Abuse, appreciates the office of Her Excellency, the wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi for her commitment to Gender-Based cases across the State.
