Governor Kayode Fayemi has called on youths to adopt new ways of solving the numerous challenges confronting their development in Ekiti State.

Dr. Fayemi made the call while inaugurating an 18-man committee on Youth Development in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

The Governor explained that youths must be able to contribute to the socio-economic and be the agents of positive change in the society.

He emphasized that the Committee would assist the Government in driving its goals and objectives in the areas of youth development.

Governor Fayemi who was represented by his chief of staff, Mr Biodun Omoleye said, the initiative would harness the potential embedded in youths and help them to build competence, confidence, compassion as well as character for the betterment of the society.

The Governor noted that his administration was addressing youth challenges through various intervention programmes and policies in agricultural, commerce, education and sport development.

Governor Fayemi is the chairman of the committee.

Sympathisers have continued to throng the Ado-Ekiti residence of the slain Director of Administration, Ekiti state local government Service commission, Mr David Jejelowo.

Radio Nigeria correspondent who visited the House of the deceased reports that some of sympathizers who could not hide their feelings lamented the level of insecurity in the country.

They called on government at all levels to address insecurity in the country and called on security agents to step up efforts in securing lives and properties.

Speaking with newsmen, one of the children of the murdered Senior Council Official, Master Oluwa-gbohunmi Jejelowo called for the arrest of those behind the killing of his father.

He described the killing of his father as tragic and a loss to the people of the state and the country in general.

Four Communities in Irepodun/ Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti state have appealed to government to reconstruct roads linking the towns and establish police posts in the areas.

Traditional rulers of some of the towns including Esure, Awo, Eyio and Ilomu Ekiti, made the request during their visit to the office of the Ekiti State Deputy governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi.

Spokesperson of the Monarchs, the Elesure of Esure Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Ajibola said that good roads would enhance transportation of their farm produce and services among the people in the area.

Oba Ajibola who explained that towns like Eyio, Awo, Ilomu and Esure Ekiti have no single police post, noted that the traditional rulers had been using their personal efforts with the cooperation of people to pay for the services of local hunters for protection of the areas from any invasion.

He also requested for even deployment of Amotekun personnel to strengthen the security network in the state.

In his response, the Ekiti State Deputy governor, Otunba Egbeyemi appreciated the traditional rulers for promoting peace in their domains.

Otunba Egbeyemi noted that security of lives and property remained one of the priorities of Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration and efforts were being made to sustain the existing peace across the state.

The Deputy Governor stressed that despite the fact that the present administration met huge debt on ground, no stone would be left unturned to meet the yearnings of the people in terms of socio economic development, rapid growth and strong security network.

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor,  Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi has advised people of Epe Ekiti in Ijero Local Government to desist from actions that can lead to violence in the town.

Otunba Egbeyemi gave the advice in Ado-Ekiti at a peace meeting with kngmakers, youths and Prince Family of Epe Ekiti following a text message by unknown person threatening  to kill the kingmakers of the community if they failed to install their favourite as the next King of Epe Ekiti.

Describing the step as uncalled for, Otunba Egbeyemi warned that anyone caught fomenting trouble or indicted by the security report in the area would be made to face the wrath of law.

Otunba Egbeyemi who described Governor Kayode Fayemi as a peace loving individual, who would not tolerate anyone that could cause violence, emphasized that peace remained the only yardstick for meaningful growth in any community.

He charged them to cooperate with the Kingmakers in the process to enthrone a new King, adding that government would not allow anyone or group of people to impose their favourite at the detriment of the people, tradition and law guiding the Traditional stools.

Earlier, one of the parties in the crisis, Prince  Kolawole Arowolo, who claimed that he had intention to contest the vacant stool, said since Ife Oracle had selected somebody very closed to him as Oba Elect, he had no objection than to follow the majority in order to engender peace in the community.

Prince Arowolo expressed shock that his name mentioned was as part of those fomenting trouble in Epe Ekiti.

The Regent, Epe Ekiti, High Chief Olajide Dada who claimed that he also received the threat message, urged the people in the community to embrace peace and eschew actions that could promote violence.

The Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi says all the ongoing projects will be completed before the end of his administration.

Governor Fayemi, who stated this while on inspection of ongoing projects in Ado, Iluomoba, Insinbode and Omuo Ekiti, said that the Civil Centre, Ojaoba, and some other projects would be inaugurated in October this year.

He explained that Agric Processing Zone, silage, Dangote Mill, GMK Mill and Juice Industry would be opened along the Cargo Airport to open up Ekiti State for commercial activities.

Governor Fayemi noted that the airport building and airport runways would be awarded to proven company to ensure quality job and early completion.

While on inspection to Agbado/Ode/Omuo Ekiti road, Governor Fayemi expressed satisfaction with the level of work done, adding that he would not allow the current economic reality to stop the plan to make meaningful change and place the state on a sound economic footing.

In Ekiti State, another five COVID 19 patients have been treated and discharged out of the ten active index cases.

The State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Mojisola Yahaya-Kolade, who announced this while briefing newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, said that nine COVID 19 patients had so far been treated and discharged.

Dr Yahaya-Kolade explained that the patients were discharged having tested negative to the virus twice

She observed that two new coronavirus cases were discovered from the seventy primary contacts of the late twenty nine years old woman, while another man who sneaked into the state from Kano also tested positive to the virus, and they were the new cases recorded in Ekiti.

The Commissioner for Health said that nine primary contacts of the man who sneaked into the state were being traced, and maintained that beds at the isolation centre had been upgraded to one hundred capacity.

While commending people the for their support in efforts to rid of COVID 19 in Ekiti State, the Director General Office of Transformation and Strategies, Professor Bolaji Aluko urged the people to always report activities in their domains in terms of health and security to the appropriate authorities.

Fifteen COVID 19 cases were confirmed in Ekiti State so far, one death, nine discharged, and five are currently receiving treatment at the Oba Adejugbe Isolation centre in Ado-Ekiti.

The abducted Commissioner for Agriculture in Ekiti State, Chief Olabode Folorunso, by unknown gunmen last week has regained freedom from his abductors.

The State Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Mr Muyiwa Olumilua who confirmed this in a statement in Ado-Ekiti, said he was released unhurt and had since been reunited with his families.

The statement indicates that the government is grateful to members of the public for their concern during the period of his incarceration. 

It also appreciates the efforts of the security agencies in securing the Commissioner’s release as well as ensuring the security of lives and properties on the highways.

The statement however, expresses sympathy to the family of the late Councilor, Mr Olatunji Omotosho, who was killed by gunmen during the abduction on April 26 2020, and urges the people of the state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or activities to the law enforcement agencies.

Ekiti State Government has announced abduction of the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Folorunso Olabode, by suspected bandits on his way from Ado-Ekiti to his hometown in Iye-Ekiti, Ilejemeje, local government of Ekiti State last weekend.

The Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Mr Muyiwa Olumilua made this known in a statement in Ado Ekiti.

He also confirmed that the kidnappers shot one person among his entourage, the driver of the vehicle, who is a serving Councilor in Ilejemeje in the ensuing fracas. 

Governor Kayode Fayemi has mandated the security Agencies in the State to ensure prompt and safe release of the abducted Commissioner, while assuring residents that adequate measures were ongoing, to maintain peace and security of the state. 

He promised that all perpetrators of the dastard act would be brought to book. 

The Commissioner for Police in Ekiti State, Amba Asuquo, has said that a team of police men has already been deployed, and are on the trail of the abductors, with a view to rescuing the victim.

Meanwhile, some youths in Iye Ekiti have taken to the streets to protest the poor response of police officers in Iye Division Police post, to the distress call put across to them immediately the House leader, state Commissioner for Agric and a woman were attacked.

Report says the youths who came out in large number, alleged the police of being lackadaisical which they said worsened the incident.

Radio Nigeria Progress FM learnt that the angry youths had been dispatched with teargas while attempting to attack a van belonging to the Divisional police station.

Ekiti State Government has commenced the perimeter fencing of the new Cargo Airport in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

Governor Kayode Fayemi who made this known during an inspection tour of some projects in Ado Ekiti, noted that the fencing was about thirty kilometers. 

He explained that the perimeter fencing was part of the measure to secure the lands from encroachment and prevent other land-related crisis.

The governor observed that the site engineers at the various projects visited were on site to ensure that the project was delivered at the stipulated time despite all odds.

Some of the sites visited include Ayo Fasanmi Comprehensive High School, Ilokun, Ado-Ekiti, new water corporation at Iworoko road, water corporation booster station at Fajuyi, and the Rice Mill along Ijan road.

The only patient with positive case of Corona Virus in Ekiti state has been discharged.

The patient who has been receiving treatment since 18th of March, at the Ekiti State Infection Disease Control Centre in Oba Adejuyigbe General Hospital Ado-Ekiti was confirmed Negative having been treated for the coronavirus.

The patient who was full of joy said that the state government had been up to the task throughout the period he was quarantined at the center.

The commissioner for Health and Human Services in Ekiti state Dr.Mojisola Yaya-Kolade disclosed that the index case was given best of treatment and was confirmed free of the virus with all tests carried out.

Dr. Yaya – Kolade explained that  the state government was  monitoring the 41 contacts that had been put in self isolation and all necessary tests had been concluded to contain the spread of the virus in the state.

The commissioner appealed to all Ekiti residents to adhere to hygienic life style and obey the stay at home order of the state government aimed at containing the spread of the disease.
