Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has appointed a renowned businessman and philanthropist, Dr Tunji Olowolafe, as the new Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti. 

The appointment, which is effective immediately, was announced in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, on Friday.

According to the statement, the Governor exercised his power as the Visitor to the University to appoint Dr Olowolafe, who is a native of Are-Ekiti and a graduate of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Ilorin. 

Dr Olowolafe is the CEO and Managing Director of Deux Project Limited, a civil engineering, construction, consultancy, and maintenance company, which he co-founded in 1988. 

He is also the Founder of Generic Product Limited, and the Chairman and Managing Director of Deux Investment Limited.

The statement described Dr Olowolafe as a man of integrity, vision, and excellence, who has contributed immensely to the development of Ekiti State and Nigeria at large. 

The Governor expressed his confidence that Dr Olowolafe would bring his wealth of experience, expertise, and goodwill to bear on the administration and growth of EKSU, which is one of the leading state-owned universities in Nigeria. 

The governor also congratulated Dr Olowolafe on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure.

The Management of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti EKSU has announced the reopening of the institution for academic activities.

EKSU management took the decision at its meeting held on monday, 23rd May, 2022.

A statement by the instruction’s Head, Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, Mr Bode Olofinmuagun said the management discussed the impact of the ongoing national strike embarked upon by all the four staff unions as it affects the University vis a vis academic and other activities.

According to him, the Management noted the pains of the students and parents as a result of the ongoing protracted industrial action.

He noted further that one academic session (2021/2022) of admission is still outstanding, while the second semester of the 2020/2021 academic session is yet to be concluded.

Moreover, the admission process for the 2022/2023 academic session will commence soonest.

In the interest of the students, parents, guardians and indeed the society at large as well as the survival of the university, Management decided to reopen the institution for normal academic activities with effect from Tuesday, 24th May, 2022.

The Federal Appeal Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has ordered the immediate reinstatement of eighty-six Non-Academic Staff of the Ekiti State University EKSU whose appointments were illegally terminated by the institution on the 5th of December 2019.

The court also ordered immediate payment of their salary from when they were sacked to date.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Abdul-Azeez Waziri upheld the 2020 ruling of the Industrial Court in Akure, Ondo State on the matter, describing the termination of the appointment of the concerned workers as “unlawful, null and void.”

The Appeal Court also awarded the sum of N50,000 fine against the Ekiti State University to be paid to each claimant.

The university had on December 5, 2019, illegally disengaged the workers for alleged irregular appointments, forgery, and over-aged, among other allegations.

In his reaction, the leader of the affected Workers, Mr Babatunde Ajayi described the judgement as a victory for all, especially the families of the concerned workers whose rights had been trampled upon for over two years.

However, the vice Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Edward Olanipekun could not be reached for his reaction to the court judgment while the phone number of the institution’s spokesperson, Mr Bode Olofinmuagun was also switched off.

It would be recalled that the same Appeal Court, sitting Ado Ekiti recently ordered management of the Ekiti State University, EKSU to reinstate the 32 technologists whose appointments were terminated by the institution in December 2019.

The road leading to Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti and Iworoko was barricaded Monday morning by the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS to protest the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The protesters called on the federal government to immediately respond to the demands of ASUU with a view to ending the strike.

Addressing newsmen, President, EKSU Student’s Union Government, Mr Emmanuel Alade who led the protest, stressed that the strike was not in the best interest of the students, advising the government to dialogue with the university lecturers.

“Anytime our lecturers are on strike, we are not happy because it will prolong our period of staying in the school, federal government should dialogue with our lecturers so as to end the strike”.

Mr Alade however pleaded with stakeholders in the education sector to intervene in the face off between the two parties, government and lecturers.

On his part, Vice President, EKSU Student’s Union Government, Miss Titilope Adeteye said the protest and road block would continue until the federal government acceded to the demands of the lecturers.

Our correspondent who witnessed  the situation reports that, though the gate of the institution was opened for workers and students , the protest  caused serious gridlock while security personnel were on ground to prevent the protest from being hijacked by hoodlums to prevent  breakdown of Law and order.

Vice-Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Professor Edward Olanipekun says the institution is intensifying efforts at using electronic means of Transcript processing for prospective Alumni.

Professor Olanipekun who disclosed this at the 9th National Delegates Convention of the Alumni Association of the institution held at the main Campus, Ado-Ekiti noted that it would make it easy and preferable than the herculean physical processes.

According to him, efforts are in top gear and necessary things are being put in place for the smooth take off of the online means of transcript process.  

The Vice Chancellor urged members of the alumni association to give back to the institution by contributing meaningfully to the advancement of their alma mater. 

The outgoing President of the Association, Dr Oludotun Adetunberu who highlighted his administration’s achievements to include the inauguration of the Alumni Village, commended the robust relationship with the management of the institution and urged the incoming Executive to maintain the standard.

On his part, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BOT, Mr Olawale Jegede saluted the Electoral Committee, led by Mr Olajide Akinyemi for the transparent conduct of the election and charged the New Executive members to live up to expectations.

Responding on behalf of the new Executive members, the National President, Engineer Dipo Bamisaye said the committee would not disappoint members and would deliver on its electioneering promises.

The new members of the Executive include Engineer Dipo Bamisaye as President, Oladotun Akinrulie, Vice President 1 and Isaac Akinleye as National Secretary.

Others include Olumide Abudu, National Publicity Secretary, Afolabi Fakayode, Assistant Secretary, Muyiwa Cole, Legal Adviser, Ajayi Babatunde as Financial Secretary while Internal Auditor position was won by Akinyemi Borode.

Helen Olusegun emerged Social Secretary and Sunday Adelokiki as Ex-Officio while the position of the Vice President 2 was declared vacant by the electoral committee Chairman, Mr Olajide Akinyemi as the sole candidate could not meet the required number of assenting votes.

Weather is a state of atmosphere include cold, excessive heat, waves, thunderstorms and often driven by air pressure and temperature.

A Professor of Geography and Environmental Management with Special Interest in Climatology, at the Ekiti State University, EKSU, Wole Adebayo said the daily changes in weather conditions were due to winds and storms, while the seasonal changes were due to the earth revolving around the sun.

Professor Adebayo noted that the weather conditions often dictates the kinds of foods, fruits, variables available in a region and styles of dresses of the people, the designs of their buildings, and the health issues facing them among others.

The climatologist who explained that there was absolutely nothing could be done to make weather static or influence it to human taste, since it was natural.

Professor Adebayo said the present weather condition was good for farm produce such as palm oil, cashews and urged the people to adapt to the weather in their environment.

Some Residents of Ado Ekiti gave their opinions on the weather conditions.

A medical expert, Dr. Oladele Olatunya listed some of the prevalent health issues common during the dry season to include cough, diarrhea, meningitis, measles, asthma and skin rashes.

Dr. Olatunya noted that to prevent some of the diseases which could be easily contacted, people especially nursing mothers needed to be wary of their actions and embrace hygienic living.

The medical expert urged Nigerians irrespective of culture and religious beliefs to always dress well, allow enough ventilation in their rooms, eat balanced diet and desist from acts that could be injurious to their health.

Students of Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti protesting the alleged harassment and unlawful arrest of their colleagues by the Police and EFCC have been dispersed by the Police with teargas.

The students who barricaded the highway in front of their school and made burn fires, alleged that many of their colleagues have been apprehended by the Police and EFCC without giving any reason.

The action of the students brought hardship to many motorists and commuters as they stranded for hours.

Staff members of the University were prevented from gaining entry into the campus.

A Policeman who pleaded anonymity confirmed that some of the students known as Yahoo boys were arrested within the campus.

Normalcy has since returned to the university community.

Efforts to get the reaction of the spokesperson for Ekiti state Police Command, Mr. Caleb Ikechukwu proved abortive as his mobile phone was switched off.
