NIHORT Develops High Yield Crop Varieties for Farmers

The Executive Director, National Horticultural Research Institute, NIHORT, Idi-Ishin, Jericho, Ibadan, Professor Lawal Attanda, says the institute has developed new crop varieties with high yield that can be cultivated in the southwest zone of Nigeria.

Professor Attanda stated this while receiving the management team of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, lbadan Zonal Station on a courtesy visit to the institute.

Professor Attanda explained that food supply in the country was a product of research findings on crop production.

The NIHORT executive director said six varieties of onions have been developed recently with three varieties adaptable in the zone both in the dry and wet seasons.

Professor Attanda who said Radio was more effective in agricultural extension services, expressed readiness to partner FRCN in disseminating research information from the institute to the general public especially grassroots farmers in the SouthWest Zone.

Earlier, the Zonal Director, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Olufemi Fulani, noted that NIHORT was notable in conducting research into crop varieties especially fruits thereby guaranteeing all year production of fruits and vegetables.

The FRCN Zonal Director, who explained that the Zonal station has FM stations across the Southwest states, noted that the visit was designed to seek collaboration with NIHORT to reach its target audience at the grassroots.

 In the entourage of the Zonal director were the management team of FRCN, Ibadan Zonal station, comprising the Deputy Director Programmes, Reverend Niyi Dahunsi, Deputy Director Marketing, Mr Adewale Afinjuomo, a Deputy Director News and Current Affairs, Mrs Olubunmi Olalere and the Assistant Director, Corporate dLDevelopment and Communication, Mr Steve Agbaje.

Dudu Heritage Finally Laid To Rest

The need for people to be selfless in their services and leave an indelible impact wherever they find themselves has again been emphasized.

To this end, Nigerians have been advised to add value to humanity because they would only be remembered by what they had done.

The Minister, All Saints’ Church, Jericho, Ibadan, the Venerable Dipo Ajomale gave this advice during the funeral service of the popular music promoter, entertainer, and businessman, Ola Ibironke, fondly known as” Dudu Heritage”.

The Venerable Ajomale noted that the death of Ola Ibironke was a great loss to the entertainment and golfing communities at a time like this when his contributions were most needed.

The Venerable Ajomale also tasked entertainers to use their skills and talents to impact humanity positively and likewise correct societal ills.

The burial had in attendance artists from the Nigerian entertainment industry and the golfing community.

Oladiran Ishola Ibironke was born on 6th December 1960 and died on 12th September 2021.

He was married to the popular actress Bimbo Oshin of “Eji owuro” fame.

Venerable Godwin Daramola Laid to Rest

Friends, families, and well-wishers of Venerable Godwin Daramola converged on All Saints Church, Jericho, Ibadan to bid the great preacher a farewell to eternal life. 

At the service, secondary school alumni including Loyola College Ibadan, Ilesa Grammer School and All Saints College Ibadan rendered special songs and anthems in recognition of venerable Godwin Daramola’s impact in raising sound minds. 

Diocesan Bishop of Ibadan Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Joseph Akinfenwa in a sermon, said though Venerable Daramola had played his part meritoriously, he left when there were dwindling standards in ministry and governance. 

Most Reverend Akinfenwa, who made reference to the recent killing of the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Michika Local Government, demanded a stop to the killing of innocent lives. 

In an interview, Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu described Venerable Daramola as a man who lived a meaningful life. 

The remains of Venerable Daramola were later committed to Mother earth at the All Saints Church Rest Park, Ido-Eruwa road while reception of guests followed immediately.

Late Venerable Godwin Daramola, who died at the age of eighty on the 25th of December last year, was a preacher, writer, an educationist and the first African principal of Loyola College as well as one time principal of Ibadan Grammar School.
