Osun State Government is to construct over 54 kilometers of road across the three Senatorial Districts of the state.

This was announced after the State Executive Council weekly meeting.

Announcing the council decision, the State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode said the construction would cost 5.2 billion naira.

Mrs Egbemode explained that the project was in response to the needs of the people obtained during the Governor’s thank you tour and the DFID NEEDS assessment recently conducted in the state.

The Information Commissioner added that the contractor had signed a pact with the government to do a thorough job that would be sustainable and save the state of incessant road repairs.

Also speaking, her counterpart in the Works and Transport Ministry, Mr Oluremi Omowaye said before the instant project, the current administration had completed the rehabilitation of roads in ten major towns in the state while contractors had been mobilised back to site in respect of the ongoing road constructions awarded by the previous administration.

Mr Omowaye stressed that the current roads project were attached to economic importance, including the Moro, Yakoyo Ipetumodu axis, linking the state capital with the Ibadan-Ilesa highway as well as the one connecting Igbajo for the ease of tourists to the Kiriji war site.

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, who maintained that the cost of the project is the cheapest in the country, added the project would be initially funded by the contractor through the Alternative Project Finance system.

In an interview, the Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly, who also represents one of the benefiting Local Government, Mr Tunde Olatunji commended the Executive for awarding the road contract at such economic rate.

Mr Olatunji charged the contractor to deliver to terms of the project, most especially on time and quality.
