A ghastly car crash which occurred along Ife-Ilesa road, Osun State has claimed the lives of five persons, including a female child.

The Public Enlightenment Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Osun State Command, Mrs Agnes Ogungbemi confirmed the incident to newsmen, on behalf of the Sector Commander, Mr Taofeek Sokunbi.

Mr Sokunbi explained that a white trailer with no registration number, crushed a white Toyota Hilux vehicle with registration number FKJ691HZ and killed five passengers out of the nine passengers involved in the crash.

He explained that the driver of the white trailer was nabbed and handed over to the police in Edun Abun Division.

The Osun State FRSC boss said the injured female passenger was rushed to a private hospital in Ipetumodu, while the corpses had been taken to the mortuary of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife.

Osun FRSC Sector Commander explained that, “The road mishap happened at about 10:15am today Saturday,19th April, the affected drivers and passengers included six male adults, two female adults, and one female child”.

Mr Sokunbi who attributed the cause of the road accident to over-speeding and one way traffic violation, however, cautioned road users against the offense of route violation among other offenses.

He added that the driver is presently in the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, custody and will be charged to court soon.

Mr Sokunbi added that a sum of 508,900 naira which was found in one of the vehicles, had been handed over to relatives of the victims at the scene of the accident.

An accident involving three persons which occurred Friday evening has claimed the life of a motorcyclist at Saint Paul Grammar School, Gbongan Ife Road.

The Public Relations Officer, PRO, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Osun State Command, Mrs Agnes Ogungbemi made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo.

Mrs Ogungbemi who attributed the incident to wrong overtaking noted that the family of the deceased took over the corpse, while the vehicle involved was taken over by Nigeria Police Force, NPF, Gbongan.

The state FRSC PRO explained that the two other persons were not injured.

She added that it involved a blue motorcycle Jincheng with plate number GBN658QF and a Red Iveco Eurostar truck with plate number MKA09ZE.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Osun State Command, has appealed to motorists to do away with reckless and dangerous driving that could lead to loss of lives and properties during and after the Salah celebrations.

Osun State Sector Commander, Mrs Kudirat Ibrahim, gave the advice in a statement by the command spokesperson, Mrs Agnes Ogungbemi, in Osogbo.

Mrs Ibrahim noted that the command has deployed some officers to the all the nooks and crannies of the state, to ensure easy flow of traffic and to caution motorists against dangerous driving.

According to her, any motorist that intentionally disobeyed the road traffic regulations would be fined or allowed to face the wrath of relevant traffic laws.

The Osun State FRSC sector commander said the command is collaborating with other sister agencies to ensure the safety of citizens in the state within the period of celebrations.
