The Nigeria Police have warned that anyone who announces the result of the Ekiti State governorship election without authorization from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will be arrested and prosecuted.
Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Planning and Evaluation, Mr Abayomi Sogunle, gave the warning at a news briefing in Ado Ekiti.
Mr Sogunle said adequate security arrangements had been made to protect INEC permanent and ad hoc staff, members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and other critical personnel involved in the election.
He explained that four security operatives would be deployed to each polling unit to maintain law and order throughout the exercise.
The Commissioner of Police assured political parties of a level playing field and reaffirmed the commitment of the police and other security agencies to neutrality during the poll.
He urged members of the public to report incidents of vote-buying and other electoral offences to security agencies.
On movement restrictions, Mr Sogunle said candidates sitting for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, SSCE, journalists and other accredited election stakeholders would be allowed to move freely without harassment.
He appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders and religious leaders to continue supporting security agencies to ensure a peaceful election.
The Commissioner of Police also advised residents to call 08062335577 in the event of any emergency.
Corps members have been encouraged to see the challenges facing Nigeria as stepping stones to greatness, rather than reasons for discouragement.
Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, advised while declaring open the 2026 Batch A Stream Two orientation course of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin.
Represented by the Director of Youth in the Ministry of Youth Development, Alhaja Kudirat Mustapha, the governor noted that the nation’s current challenges require the collective creativity, energy, and resilience of corps members to drive progress and national development.
“Gentlemen, corps members, you are beginning your service year at a time when our nation needs your energy, creativity, and resilience more than ever before. Nigeria’s challenges are real, but so are the opportunities. I urge you not to see this service year merely as a statutory obligation, but as a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to nation-building, develop leadership skills, and positively impact the communities where you will serve.”
Governor Makinde emphasized that the NYSC scheme, since its establishment in 1973, has remained a vital instrument for fostering unity, promoting national integration, and bridging ethnic, religious, and cultural divides.
He also urged corps members to take full advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to become self-reliant.
“I encourage you to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme wholeheartedly. Acquire skills that will make you self-reliant, innovative, and economically empowered beyond your service year. The future belongs to those who are prepared, and this programme is designed to prepare you for life after NYSC.”
The governor further assured corps members of their safety and welfare throughout their service year, noting that Oyo State remains hospitable and peaceful.
“Oyo State is known for its rich history, hospitality, cultural diversity, and peaceful coexistence. We have deliberately created an enabling environment for corps members to live, work, and serve safely. I assure you that our administration will continue to prioritize your welfare, security, and well-being throughout your service year.”
Earlier, the Oyo State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Kayode Ola-Peters, disclosed that, through deliberate engagement and the commitment of Governor Makinde, the 4,000-capacity multipurpose hall at the Iseyin Orientation Camp has been tiled.
Mr Ola-Peters added that the current Stream Two exercise represents not only the continuation of the orientation programme but also a renewed commitment to achieving the 2026 Batch ‘A’ theme: “Revamping the Orientation Course Experience as a Platform for Impactful Service by Corps Members.”
He explained that this vision has challenged NYSC in the state “to reimagine the Orientation Course as more than a routine exercise. It is a deliberate and strategic foundation upon which you will build a year of relevance, innovation, and impactful service across communities.”
Mr Ola-Peters said 3,026 corps members comprising 1, 217 males and 1,809 females have so far been registered, while 451 other corps members representing 188 males and 263 females were dislodged to the Iseyin Permanent Orientation Camp for the exercise.
National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) says over 200,000 Corps Members would be participating in the general election.
Addressing Journalists in Abuja, the Director General of the Scheme, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed warned corps members on ad-hoc duties during the forthcoming election to avoid any form of gratification, and avoid any flashpoints.
The DG unveiled a distress call centre that would enable corps members to get help in case of any security alert.
Brigadier General Ahmed said corps members would not work in high security-prone areas, and advised those on electoral duties to be fully dressed in their uniforms.
He said that adequate training had been given to the corps members and any of them found to have compromised would face the full wrath of the law.
The Director General advised the corps members to reach out to the scheme through it’s new four digits distress call number.
Corps members that would be used as ad-hoc staff in the 2023 general election have been warned against compromising the rules guiding their conduct in the forthcoming elections.
The Acting Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Mrs Christy Uba gave the warning during the inauguration of an 800-seater capacity hall built by the Oyo State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe at the commission’s secretariat in Ibadan.
Mrs Uba explained that the corps members had been trained on the rules and standards guiding their conduct, warning that any corps members found culpable before and during the elections would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“They have been trained. they must take instructions and not compromise. If they are found culpable the course of the law would be implemented on them”
Mrs Uba stressed the need for the corps members to be patriotic and make good use of the training acquired.
Speaking in the same vein, the Chairman, the NYSC Board of Trustees, who is also the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Seun Fakorede said the electorate was aware of their civic duties and rights, adding that the corps members should live above board and meet the expectations of the masses.
“Well, I expect more than ever before a level of comportment a high level of coordination. Today, people are now educated and are aware of their rights and what is expected of them. I’m a little bit impressed with the level of voter education and awareness out there. I believe this level of education is going to be backed up with a level of comportment by our youths nationwide.”
Earlier, the Oyo State Coordinator, NYSC, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe said the hall was built as a result of her need assessment carried out in the state NYSC.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, it is pertinent to note that upon my assumption as the 20th state coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Oyo state, I discovered the absence of a befitting and conducive hall to host programmes for members of staff, corps members other official engagements. This forced us every occasion to hold meetings outside the office premises.
“As part of my administration’s resolve to improve on the welfare of staff and corps members and provide solutions to some precarious challenges hampering the smooth operation of the scheme in Oyo state, I am gladdened to inform you that we are able to initiate a construction of 800- seater capacity ultra- modern hall, complete renovation of the abandoned Servi-Com Office, rehabilitation and painting of the entire secretariat complex”
The NYSC DG and the state coordinator of the scheme commended those who contributed towards the success of the building project.
The Foundation of the multi-purpose hall was laid on the 13th of August, this year.
The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC has taken its medical outreach programme to some rural communities in Osun State.
Flagging off the programme at Apomu in Isokan Local Government, the NYSC Coordinator in Osun State, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka said the initiative was part of the mandate of the scheme to impact rural dwellers, improve corps members’ sense of national integration and patriotism.
Mrs. Shokpeka explained that residents of rural communities would benefit immensely from such interventions, considering the distance of hospitals to them and sometimes money to access basic medical care.
The NYSC Coordinator in Osun State appealed to all members of communities benefiting in the outreach to take advantage of the opportunity to know their health status as a measure to prevent fatalities.
Also speaking, the Head of the NYSC Medical Team, Dr Chidinma Ibe hinted that the programme was a volunteer initiative of the corps medical personnel to create awareness, to help the rural dwellers find answers to some of their hidden health questions.
She stated that the intervention would provide succour for the people because some of them did not visit the hospital for lack of money and other personal reasons.
Dr Ibe pointed out that the programme was designed majorly for the elderly due to the obvious challenges associated with health at old age with risk of high blood sugar, high blood pressure and degenerating immune system.
She advised the people to take their health more seriously and go for medical checkups at least once a year.
Beneficiaries of the medical outreach were taken through diabetes, blood sugar and blood pressure screening by the medical corps of the NYSC.
As the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 corps members in Oyo State proceed to their places of primary assignment to commence their one-year national service, the corps members have again been warned to avoid using the social media platform to spread hate speech.
The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim gave the warning during the official closing of the orientation camp of the Batch C Stream 1 Corps members at the Orientation Camp in Iseyin.
Speaking through the Oyo State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Grace Ogbuoegebe, Brigadier General Ibrahim said the corps members should not be speculative about issues but use the media platform for self-development as well as seek more information from the official website of the scheme.
Brigadier General Ibrahim who said the corps members should make themselves available for COVID-19 vaccination said the vaccine was mandatory as the December 1st deadline given by the federal government might affect them in their primary places of assignment.

The Director, NYSC Southwest Area Office, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Akin-Moses stated this at the Unity Trek to mark the 48 years anniversary of NYSC in Oshogbo, Osun State.
Mrs. Akin-Moses noted that NYSC has made many youths learn about the different cultures in Nigeria, thereby respecting other people’s culture and living in harmony with them.
She advised those agitating for the scrapping of NYSC to have a rethink as the youths mainly graduates who served under the scheme have gained a lot from the skills acquisition and other programmes of the scheme.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Ayodele Adegoke had explained that the Unity Trek was to symbolise the Unity of Nigeria which was the aim of the founding fathers of NYSC.
Each platoon of Corps members carried the Torch of Unity while jogging round the camp carrying various placards with inscriptions like, “Shun acts that divides us”, “NYSC is for the unity of Nigeria”, “United we stand, divided we fall”, “Shun Ethnic and Religion Politics” amongst others.
It will be recalled that the scheme was established on May 23, 1973 by the then Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.
The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has extended the service year of seven corps members while indicating that three members absconded in Osun State.
The scheme also announced the unfortunate loss of a corps member during the service year.

Mr Adgoke said out of the 3216 corps members that passed out from Batch C Stream, three members that absconded from the service would repeat the service year, while seven others would serve an extension of service for various offences committed.
He said the punitive measures meted on the erring corps members was to serve as deterrent to other serving corps members.
The coordinator said, distribution of certificates to Batch C, Stream I, corps members would be done in the local government areas in compliance with the COVID-19 protocols.
According to the statement, the Director of NYSC, Southwest Area Office, Mr Emmanuel Attah admonished corps members to be patriotic and serve as instrument of peace and development to Nigeria.
The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has expressed the readiness of corps members that will participate in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo state to build on the impressive feat recorded in Edo state.
Brigadier General Ibrahim stated this when he paid homage to the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo in his palace.
The DG who led some management staff of the scheme to the Deji’s palace said the corps members had been briefed on the need to be professional in the conduct of the election and in accordance with their training in preparation for the election.
He however urged Ondo state residents not to be hostile to corps members as they are not indigenes of the state with any ulterior motives concerning the election.
He also commended the traditional institution for the hospitality given to corps members deployed to Ondo state.
In a remark, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetiyinbo who described political activities in the state as tense, expressed confidence that corps members used as ad hoc staff would help achieve a free and fair election in Ondo state.
The monarch also urged voters in Ondo state to put the interest of the state first in their hearts when casting their votes.
Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin has assured the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Oyo State of government’s support and improved welfare packages.
The Speaker gave the assurance when the Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Ogbuogebe Grace paid a courtesy visit to him in his office.
Mr. Ogundoyin said the NYSC scheme was impacting youth across the country, hence Oyo State Government would do all within its power to increase and improve provision of infrastructure at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin.
Earlier, the Oyo State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Ogbuogebe had explained that the visit was meant to reach out to the stakeholders in the state on the need to give more support to the scheme.
Mr Ogbuogebe hinted that regular increase in the population of Corps members posted to Oyo State had necessitated the need for the provision of more facilities as well as expansion of the camp.
She said work had commenced on the Camp’s pavilion and appreciated the Speaker for the role he played in this regard.
The State NYSC Coordinator equally identified some of the needs of Oyo NYSC camp to include a multi-purpose hall, a modern kitchen among others.
The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in Ekiti State has extended the period of service of twenty-six Batch B Stream One Corps members for absenteeism and laziness.
Also, fifteen others, who absconded from their places of primary assignments are to refund the allowances collected so far and they would be posted to other states for a fresh service year without any payment to serve as deterrent to others.

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Ekiti State has cancelled the Passing Out Parade for the 2019 Batch B, Stream 1 Corps members due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
A statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations Unit of NYSC in Ekiti State, Mrs Rose Omoja says the corps members will be issued their Certificates of National Service on Thursday (28/05/20) at their various Local Government Areas of service.
The statement explains that those that are presently not in Ekiti State will be issued their certificates whenever the inter-state lockdown is eased.
It urges all employers of corps members across Ekiti state to issue ‘Letters of Release’ to those that served in their organizations.
The statement also implores drivers unions not to exploit the outgoing corps members as they will be travelling out of Ekiti to their respective states of origin while natives of Ekiti that served in other states will equally be returning to the state.
Members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Delta State numbering over one thousand have stormed strategic streets in Asaba, as part of a nationwide campaign against corruption organized by the NYSC in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Oghenero Eghweree who witnessed the event for Radio Nigeria, reports that the corps members in full-service outfits left the Federal Secretariat in Asaba at 8:45 am, and marched through the popular Okpanam road in the sensitization walk against corruption.
The Ibadan Zonal Office of the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has joined other zonal offices
of the commission across the nation to engage Nigerian youths in its campaign
against corruption.

Speaking with journalists, Oyo State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mrs. Josephine Obi said it was imperative to engage youths in the fight against corruption because most crimes, especially internet fraud were perpetrated by youths.
Similarly, the Acting Head, EFCC
Ibadan Zonal Office, Mr. Igeleke Bright noted that the youths were leaders of
tomorrow, hence the need to make them ambassadors of the anti-corruption
campaign.
NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs. Eniola Anbekebo said the NYSC would continue to collaborate with EFCC and other relevant agencies to reduce corrupt practices to the barest minimum.
Oyo
state government has pledged to assist the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in
providing befitting auditorium that will make activities conducive during
orientation course.
The
state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde gave the assurance in a message through
the Deputy Governor, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan to the Terminal Parade 2019 Batch B
Stream 2 corps members posted to the state.
Governor
Makinde who said the government was poised at ensuring conducive environment
for corps members posted to the state, urged the youth to translate all they
learnt during orientation course to positive attitude to develop the
country.
Earlier,
the Oyo state NYSC coordinator, Mrs. Eniola Ambekemo had said infrastructure
within the camp was not sufficient for the corps members.
Mrs.
Ambekemo maintained that the scheme needed more toilets and an ultramodern
auditorium calling on public-spirited individuals to come to their aid.
The NYSC
Coordinator also urged the people of Oyo state to warmly receive the corps
members.
Radio Nigeria reports that one thousand seven hundred corps members participated in the terminal parade.
National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has appealed to the
Ogun State government to resuscitate monthly payment of stipends to corps
members in the state government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Ogun State Coordinator of the scheme, Dr. Belinda
Faniyi made the appeal at Sagamu, during the swearing-in ceremony of the
Batch “B” Stream two corps members deployed to the state.
Dr. Faniyi noted that the government should put into
consideration the economic contribution of the corps members to the development
of the state especially with the present economic situation in the country.
She pleaded with Governor Dapo Abiodun to constitute the
State NYSC Governing Board and the Local Government committees which would be
involved in the welfare of the corps members in the state and local government
areas.
Governor Abiodun of Ogun state while declaring the camp
open noted that the NYSC scheme was making a great impact in the various
sectors of the national economy.
The governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry
of Youths and Sports, Mr. Kola Fagbohun, assured the corps
members that the state government would continue to support and internalise the
developmental tenets of NYSC to ensure a solid foundation for the continued
development of the state.
The governor urged the corps members to take up the
national challenge and contribute positively to the growth of the nation.
A total of one thousand seven hundred and nineteen corps members, comprising seven hundred and ninety eight males and nine hundred and twenty-one females of various disciplines were formally inducted into the National Youth Service Corps in Ogun state Batch “B” Stream two.
