The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko, to Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the commission’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani,

,According to Ani, the 15th plenary of the PSC which ended in Abuja last Friday, approved the promotion of some senior police officers.

The plenary which began on Wednesday, May 11, was presided over by the chairman of the commission and former Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Musiliu Smith.

The statement noted that John Amadi was promoted as a substantive Deputy Inspector-General of Police.He replaced late DIG Joseph Egbunike and will be representing the South East in the Force Management.

The commission also approved the appointment of DIG Zama Senchi, who was the most senior in the Assistant Inspector General cadre.

It equally promoted eight Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police.

Those promoted to AIG alongside Onadeko include a former acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, who was the most senior in the commissioner of police cadre.

Others are Abraham Ayim; Okunlola Kamaldeen; Andrew Amieengheme; Akeera Younous; Celestine Elumelu; and Danladi Lalas (Airwing).

The commission also approved the promotion of 23 deputy commissioners to the next rank of CPs; 31 assistant commissioners to DCPs and 63 Chief Superintendents of Police to ACPs.

The new CPs include Taiwo Jesubiyi, former DC,  Admin and Finance, Akwa Ibom State Command;  Kolawole Olajide, former DC, Force CID Annex, Alagbon, Lagos; Julius Okoro, former DC, Maritime, Lagos; and Adelesi Oluwarotimi, former DC DFA, Kwara State Command.

“Other decisions taken by the commission at the plenary were the promotion of 57 Superintendents of Police earlier skipped when their mates were promoted to the next rank of Chief Superintendents.

“Other categories of Superintendents of Police such as the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, Course 4, Inspectors Course 37 and regular ASP’s course 25 and 26 were also promoted to Chief Superintendents, having met established requirements.

“The commission also promoted 1,698 ASPs to DSPs, while 6119 inspectors who attended the recent Departmental Selection Board were promoted to ASP11; 1965 ASP11 were confirmed ASPs.”

The commission also approved the conversion of 19 engineers from general duty to specialists and upgraded to the rank of DSPs, which is the statutory entry level for pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers in line with the aviation scheme of service.

As part of efforts at ensuring a peaceful atmosphere, Police in Oyo state have embarked on a “show of force” exercise around Ibadan metropolis to clear off criminal elements. 

The police team in conjunction with Amotekun personnel who were heavily armed visited some flashpoints in Ibadan including Aleshinloye, Challenge,  Beere, Agugu, Oke-Adu, Molete, and Ode-Aje.

Other places visited included Orita-Merin and Aremo. 

Commissioner of Police, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko said the exercise became imperative as part of ongoing efforts at ridding Oyo State of crime and criminality throughout the Easter festivities and beyond.

 Mrs Onadeko re-affirmed the Command’s commitment to leave no stone unturned as it continues its constitutional and statutory mandate of protecting lives and properties.

To this end, the Commissioner noted that the Command had put in place high-security measures designed at providing comprehensive and robust security coverage for the citizenry, through effective deployment of operational, intelligence, and tactical assets.

The police boss in Oyo State stated further that Area Commanders, Heads of tactical formations and Divisional Police Officers have been mandated to increase layers of Supervision for officers on the field, conduct effective stop and search, engage in visibility policing patrols along major Highways/boundary points in addition to intelligence-led raids of black spots and convoy patrols with relevant agencies and non-state actors.

She said the Critical government infrastructures, financial institutions, places of worship, media houses, recreational centres, parks, and other public facilities would be given adequate protection through effective surveillance and coverage by the Command.

While felicitating with the people of Oyo State, the Commissioner of Police, Mrs Onadeko, enjoined all and sundry to anchor around the virtues of forgiveness, tolerance,  selflessness and love in line with the ascension of Christ.

She also encouraged them to be unrelenting with the provision of credible and timely information to the Police at all times.

The Oyo State Police Command through intelligence availed to it has unraveled clandestine plans by groups of misguided people to embark on large scale violent protests in parts of the State in commemoration of one year anniversary of the unfortunate October ENDSARS saga.

  1. Consequent upon this, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Ngozi Onadeko fdc, is appealing to individual(s), groups and most importantly architects of these sinister plans, to have a rethink as the Command would not hesitate to use any legitimate means necessary within the ambit of the law to enforce sanity and prevent needless loss of lives and wanton destruction of private and public properties including critical government infrastructures which could emanate from the proposed protests.
  2. Recall that the October 2020 EndSARS incident left a painful trail of sorrow, anguish and pains in the minds of Nigerians inclusive security agencies.
  3. In furtherance to the above, the Commissioner of Police has directed extensive visibility and aggressive patrols by Area commanders and Divisional Police Officers while adequate deployment of operational, intelligence and tactical assets would be strategically positioned across every nook and cranny of the State to compliment and neutralize any threat or act(s) capable of truncating the relative calm enjoyed by the citizenry.

Normalcy has returned to Igangan, Ibarapa North area of Oyo state following the attack on the residents at the weekend by some unknown gunmen which led to the death of Eleven people.

This was made possible following the use of Intelligence and Tactical apparatuses consisting of Police Mobile Force personnel, Patrol units and other tactical teams with Local Hunters and Vigilantes from the Community.

According to the Secretary, Igangan Farmers Association, Mr. Taiwo Adeagbo, people have started going about their businesses.

Earlier, The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko had  assured  the residents that the perpetrators would be brought to book.

The Commissioner of Police further appeal to the people of Igangan community to trust the system and shun self help in obtaining justice.

Some suspected armed bandits in their numbers had invaded Igangan Community in early hours of Sunday to unleash mayhem on members of the community

Radio Nigeria gathered that those that lost their lives included some of the assailants and some indigenes.

A number of vehicles and buildings including the Palace of the Asigangan of Igangan town and a filling station were burnt down.

Meanwhile, The South West Security Network, codenamed, Amotekun has begun a joint operations in all the South West States of the country to prevent recurrence.

In another development, the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin has held an urgent security meeting with elders, heads of security agencies and other stakeholders in Ibarapaland.

The meeting held at Ayete in Ibarapa North Local Government had in attendance the Police Area Commander, Ibarapa CSP Ojo Emmanuel, Political functionaries from the zone, Local Government Chairmen in the area, Community leaders and other stakeholders.

The Speaker said the meeting was meant to assess the situation, know the cause of the attack, put security operatives on red alert and put other urgent measures in place to forestall further attacks.

Residents of Oyo state will tomorrow go to the polls to elect local government chairmen and ward councilors in thirty three local government areas of the state.

The positions of the local government chairmen and councilors have been vacant since May 30, 2019. On the assumption of office by the executive Governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde.

This follows the sack of the incumbent local government chairmen and ward councillors in the state.

Since the sack of the elected local government bosses, appointed caretaker chairmen have been in charge of administration of the third tier of government.

However, last February, the Oyo state Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, released guidelines ahead of the polls stated for May 15, 2021.

The electoral body later postponed the conduct of the exercise by a week due to the Eid-El-Fitri celebration.

To conduct the exercise, the state government has released over 200 million Naira for printing of ballot papers and other materials needed for the election.

In an interview, the chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, Chief Isiak Olagunju said stakeholders including political parties, Community and religious leaders as well as security agencies had been adequately sensitized on the need to contribute their quota to the success of the polls.

Chief Olagunju appealed to the electorate to come out en masse to vote for the candidates of their choice.

Also speaking at a peace pact meeting among participating political parties, OYSIEC and security agencies, the Oyo state commissioner of police, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko pointed out that 9,000 police personnel had been deployed to ensure a hitch-free election.

Leaders of some political parties participating in the local polls expressed confidence in OYSIEC, to conduct a hitch free election.

The state government has announced the restriction of movements between the hours of 8am till 4pm.

Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko says the Command is striving to ensure peace across the state.

The commissioner stated this when she paid a courtesy call on Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewunmi at his palace in Ogbomoso.

The commissioner said since she took over activities of police in Oyo State, the command had been making consultation with stakeholders to ensure security of lives and property, hence the motivation for the courtesy call.

Onadeko maintained that the essence of the visit was to seek support of the monarch on security matters and to receive royal blessings.

“Kabiyesi, we just came to pay homage to you. For the past two or three weeks, I have been going through all the area commands to meet with the policemen and the royal fathers.

We have come to demonstrate visibility policing to tell the people that we are on ground to make peace with everybody” She said.

Soun Ogbomoso, Oba Oyewumi, speaking through a former governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala prayed to God to grant the commissioner the grace to be successful in her career.

Oba Oyewunmi also charged the police commissioner to be up and doing in ensuring that the entire Ogbomoso land was crime free.

Embattled Fulani warlord, Iskilu Wakili has left the hospital for headquarters of the Oyo State Police Command in Eleyele, Ibadan.

Wakili was said to have been taken to the hospital on the directive of Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, after he was handed over to the police by men of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) on Sunday.

The Nation also learnt three of his men apprehended with him were said to be undergoing interrogation by the police.

Wakili, who was showed to some select journalists at the Eleyele Police headquarters, was said to have regained full consciousness.

He appeared better contrary to the forlorn looked he wore in a viral video when he was apprehended by the OPC members.

Speaking with the select journalists through an interpreter, Wakili recounted he was in his residence when he heard shouts of people.

He spoke in Hausa/Fulani language all through the brief interaction with the select media.

He said he had thought the people who besieged his residence were Amotekun operatives but before he could make any move, he was grabbed and whisked by the people whom he later discovered to be OPC members.

He denied committing any crime levelled against him, saying people who have evidence or facts of any crime he had committed should make it public.

He said he recently returned from Cotonou where he had gone for medical treatment but did not disclose the ailment.

He noted that he was away to Cotonou for about a week ago and only returned about two days before he was apprehended on Sunday.

He confirmed that the OPC men took him to Ayete station where he was handed over to the police but didn’t say he was beaten or tortured by the OPC operatives.

Wakili said he had also fallen victim of kidnapping as two of his children were abducted and he had to pay ransom to secure their release.

Speaking with journalists, CP Ngozi Onadeko, said any residents with proven evidence of atrocities against the suspects should come forward for proper investigation.

She added the detained members of OPC are still undergoing interrogation.

On the seven suspects arrested for the Shasha crisis who were only Yorubas, the Commissioner said the suspects were nabbed by officers of the Nigerians Army and were only handed over to the police for prosecution.

Onadeko confirmed the suspects have been charged to court but urged the residents to desist from ethnic profiling of crimes.

The newly posted Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko has assumed the office and promised a renewed commitment.

Mrs Onadeko stated this at the command headquarters at Eleyele, Ibadan during the handing and taking over ceremony.

While familiarizing herself with the office, Mrs Onadeko said that her targeted goal in the state was to ensure that lives and property are well protected.

The CP assured the good people of Oyo State of maximum protection to lives and property, while soliciting constant dissemination of credible information in enabling the police to serve them better.

CP Onadeko is the first female police boss to assume such position in the state.

She is an alumnus of Imo State University, Imo State where she bagged BSc. in Sociology and later proceeded to University of Lagos, where she bagged Master’s degree in Criminology.

She joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1988.


Mrs Onadeko has served in various administrative and operational capacities.

The outgoing police commissioner, Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, would be going to the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, Jos, Plateau State for a course.

A new Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, has been posted to the Oyo State Police Command.

The order was given by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu on Monday, January 11, 2021.

The posting, with those of other Commissioners of Police to various other commands, is with immediate effect.

Posted to Ebonyi State Command as Commissioner of Police is Aliyu Garba, while Abubakar Umar Bature has been posted to Airport Command in Lagos State.

The newly-decorated Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba has also assumed the position of the Commissioner of Police in charge of Force Police Public Relations Office (FFPRO), Force Headquarters, Abuja.
