Ahead of next week’s governorship election in Osun State, corps members have been cautioned against involvement in the local politics of their host communities.
They were however advised to integrate themselves with their host communities, appreciate and respect their cultures and contribute to efforts that could lift the people.
The charge was given by the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Mohammed Fadah in a message to the enclosing ceremony of the 2022 Batch ‘B’ Stream one orientation course held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ede Osun State.
Brigadier General Fadah also charged them to be security conscious at all times in their places of primary assignment, advising them to always cut short their trips once it was six o’clock in the evening.
“You should avoid acts that can endanger your lives such as staying out late, attending parties, visitation of dangerous places and acceptance of free car rides from strangers.”
He advised them to be good ambassadors to the NYSC, their families and institutions of graduation.
“You must be wary of acts that portray a negative image of the scheme, especially vices such as drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrime and advanced-fee-fraud… remember your membership of the service does not confer on you immunity from the legal consequences of any wrongdoing“.
Brigadier General Fadah appealed to corps employers to always accept corps members posted to them and make necessary preparation for their welfare.
One thousand five hundred and eighty-seven corps members were posted to Osun State in the Batch and have been deployed to various communities.
The National Youths Service Corps has described as unfortunate the reported arrest of a corps member, Orji Nkenna, by the Osun State Police Command.
He was said to have been arrested alongside a staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission over alleged electoral misconduct.
According to the police, Orji, a corps member attached to the INEC office as an ad hoc staff in charge of voter cards distribution, allegedly collected his Permanent Voter’s Card on the orders of one Wale Ojo and Ijamakinwa Olaoluwa, both members of a political party, for financial transaction.
The NYSC in a statement issued Sunday by its Director, Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, said the case was under investigation.
“The involvement of corps members in previous elections in the country was borne out of their track record of impeccable performances in several previous national assignments and we are proud of them all that stick to the rules.
“All corps members right from the orientation camps are always sensitised by the NYSC and INEC officials on their roles during elections, including the statutory sanctions if they violate the electoral laws.
“Consequently any corps member that engages himself in any form of electoral offence must squarely face the wrath of the law as stipulated in the electoral act.
“The NYSC would continue to play its role of promoting the unity and integration of the country, as it has been doing in its almost 50 years of existence.
“With the 2023 general election around the corner, the NYSC would not relent in consolidating the long-existing partnership with INEC towards ensuring a free, fair, and credible election to the delight of all Nigerians and the world at large.”
Over one hundred people in Oko Oyo State have benefited from a free medical check facilitated by NYSC, Youth Corps Members in Oko.
The beneficiaries had the privilege of checking their blood pressure, medical consultation and drug prescription and dispensing.
Speaking, the leader of the corps members, Mr.Festus Olowogbade said the youth deemed it fit to give back to the society through the programme, saying they were concerned by the health status of the people of the host community, hence the need for the programme.
Mr.Olowobamise expressed delight over the exercise, maintaining that it was a success.
Some of the beneficiaries in an interaction with Radio Nigeria thanked the corps members for giving them the opportunity to know their health status.

Brigadier General Fadah stated this during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2022 Batch B Stream One Corps members held at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin, Oyo State.
Speaking through the Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, Brigadier General Fadah said the health initiative which is aimed at providing easier, free and qualitative health care for rural dwellers, noted that the presence of NYSC was felt more in the grassroots which lacked easy access to quality healthcare.
Brigadier General Fadah, who restated the call for the actualization of the NYSC trust fund, explained that when implemented the trust fund would enhance the smooth operations of the scheme by addressing the challenge of infrastructure and also boost the skill and entrepreneurship development programme.
While enjoining the corps members to eschew social vices and the use of the social media in fuelling hatred, and fake news, the NYSC DG said the social media should be used to promote national unity and development.
Brigadier General Fadah added that corps members should get themselves vaccinated in the camp and adhere to covid 19 safety measures, while equally admonishing corps members to abide by the rules guiding NYSC camping and avail themselves of the skill acquisition and entrepreneurial development put in place by the scheme.
Radio Nigeria observed that 2,319 corps members undergoing orientation courses in Iseyin had 730 corps members drafted from Lagos State to Iseyin while 1,589 were posted to Oyo State.
The corps members were earlier administered the Oath of Allegiance by the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Murktar Abimbola, who was represented at the occasion by Honourable Justice Iyabo Yerinma.

Similarly in Osun State, Youth Corps Members have been called upon to shun all forms of religious intolerance, and ethnic bigotry and learn to embrace and respect one another’s differences.
They were also reminded that the NYSC orientation course was a critical ingredient to the attainment of national unity, integration, and peaceful coexistence.
This was contained in the address of Osun State Coordinator of the NYSC Mr Abdulwahab Olayinka at the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2022 Batch B Stream I orientation course on Tuesday at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ede.
Mr Olayinka also emphasized that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme was the vehicle that avail participants the platform to practice what they had been taught in their various institutions.
He restated that the scheme had since inception been committed to the mobilization and training of Nigerian graduate youths towards national reorientation and development.
According to him, “The scheme avails you the leverage as patriotic citizens to contribute your quota toward building a united, peaceful and egalitarian society.
“You have been drawn from different states of the federation, from different cultures, backgrounds, academic clime, religions,s and ideologies, and are brought together to integrate, interact and work as a team to achieve the lofty ideals of our founding fathers and heroes past.”
The Osun NYSC boss who noted that the scheme is a 49-year-old legacy of the nation added that as true compatriots corps members were expected to know their roles in ensuring that the country’s identity was preserved in such critical times.
While charging corps members to use the new media to project themselves and the scheme positively, she enjoined them to we themselves as ambassadors of the scheme and the nation.
“Do not use your social media handles to spread hatred or peddle fake news but learn to spread love, kindness, and happiness everywhere you go.”
Earlier, in his welcome address, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Mohammed Kaku Fadah called on corps members to be security conscious at all times.
In a speech delivered by the Osun NYSC State Coordinator, General Fadah also asked them to report all suspicious activities around them to the appropriate authorities.
The swearing-in ceremony which was presided over by the Chief Justice of Osun, Justice Adepele Ojo who was represented by Justice Adedapo Adeniji saw a total of 1553 prospective take the oath of allegiance.
Of the 1553 prospective corps members sworn in, 735 were males while the rest 818 were females.

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Muhammad Kaku Fadah says the deployment of corps members away from states of origin and their assemblage from diverse ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds is to promote national unity and integration.
General Fadah, who was represented by the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani, stated this in his address read at the Swearing-in Ceremony for the 2022 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) corps members.
“This policy will not only offer you the opportunity for a broader understanding of the country, but also entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace, harmony, and a shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.
He reminded the corps members that the Oath of Allegiance sworn to is expected to guide their conduct in the service year as well as have an everlasting influence in their life after service.
General Fadah , who is the 19th Chief Executive Officer of NYSC implored the new entrants into the scheme to sustain the high level of discipline and enthusiasm they have demonstrated so far and urged them to remain compliant with the camp rules and regulations.
“You must continue to distance yourselves from cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices. I urge you not to use social media for negative purposes but deploy same for the promotion of national unity and development”.
Fadah reminded the members of the service corps that white-collar jobs are no longer readily available, and therefore encouraged them to avail themselves of the opportunities embedded in Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
“You are expected to choose from any of the skill areas, and make yourselves available for the training, which starts from the orientation camp. On our part, management will continue to work with relevant stakeholders for the success of the programme”.
Speaking on COVID -19, he directed all corps members as well as the entire camp community to adhere strictly to the non-pharmaceutical protocols of the Coronavirus pandemic and observe physical distancing, wearing of face masks at all times, and frequent use of hand washing facilities provided at strategic locations in the orientation camp.
General Fadah congratulated 1300 deployed to Ondo State and commended their patriotism and commitment to give their best to the service of the fatherland.
The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Honourable Justice Williams Akintoroye who was represented by Honourable Justice John Olajide Abe administered the Oath of Allegiance on the prospective corps members.
In the bid to give back to the host community,NYSC corps members in Surulere LG, Oko have exposed secondary school students to basic technology knowledge to keep the students up to speed in the modern day reality.
Schools that benefited including ,Zion Group of Schools,Baptist Grammer School,Muslim Comprehensive School,Community High School, Oosu, and Irepodun community high school.
The training offered by the ICT CDS Group covered all the applications that store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit, and receive information electronically in a digital form.
The students were also taken through lessons on Hardwares,Software as regards its uses to Career Prospects.
In separate remarks, Head of the schools were very delighted and expressed their gratitude at the gesture of the youth corps members.
The age-long and laudable objective of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was said to be under serious threat as a result of the seemingly intractable problem of insecurity pervading the land.
This view was expressed on Friday by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade ll while hosting the management team of the NYSC in Oyo State led by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Ogbuogebe at his Alarere residence.
Oba Balogun subsequently called on the Federal Government to put more efforts in the fight against insecurity, noting that, “the level of insecurity is fastly eroding the noble idea and objective of the founding fathers of the scheme that remains one of the best attempts to unify the country.
“Today, an average parent would not want his or her child to go far away from the home state in the name of national service because of the fear of unknown which was unheard of in the years past. The gains of the NYSC scheme are too precious to be discarded on the altar of insecurity”, Olubadan added.
Recalling his experience on his return to the country from the United Kingdom in 1972 when he had offers to either work at the then University of Ife (UNIFE) now Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife or Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and chose Zaria because he wanted to know his country, the monarch said such decision was made then because everywhere was save and secured for all and sundry.
He enjoined the present corps members serving in the state to make the best use of the opportunity and hospitality of their hosts to advance the cause of the oneness of the country as he promised the NYSC management in the state his support and cooperation towards sustaining the objective of the founding fathers.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Ogbuogebe said the visit was to felicitate Oba Balogun on his ascension of the throne, stressing that the entire management was on camp during the installation/coronation in March this year which made it impossible for her team to be part of the epoch -making event.
She reeled out numerous achievements of the scheme across the country as well as the various interventions being made in the critical sectors of the national life including education and health. “Today, there’s no school or General Hospital/Primary Health Centre in Oyo State that you would not find a Corps member”, she said.
The State Coordinator applauded the government of the state for its unflinching cooperation just as she recalled the fatherly role played by the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1 for the scheme as well with a call on Oba Balogun to see the scheme as his baby too, saying, “we will be coming with our requests Kabiyesi and we want your doors to remain open to us”.
The composer of the National Youth Service Corps anthem, Wole Adetiran, is dead.
The PUNCH learnt that the 74-year-old died on Friday evening.
The Ogun State NYSC Coordinator, Dr Belinda Faniyi, confirmed the news stating that she was about to inform the Director-General about the news.
“The LGI just informed me (about the death) so I’ll let DG know,” she said.
Adetiran’s death has also been announced in multiple Facebook groups of the Celestial Church of Christ, as he held the post of National Music Director before his death.
The 74-year-old was in July 2021 visited by the NYSC Director-General, Ibrahim Shuaibu, at his house in Ibafo, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The septuagenarian, who composed the song in 1984, said he was moved that he was finally remembered 37 years after he composed the song.
He lamented that he had been suffering from diseases, including hypertension, diabetes and prostate cancer since 2018.
Adetiran, who studied music at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, recalled that he composed the anthem in 1984 while he was a corps member in Oyo State.
The National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, has sanctioned twenty-seven corps members in Ondo state for contravening the rules guiding the scheme during their service year.
The NYSC coordinator in the state, Mrs Victoria Ani stated this during the passing out ceremony for the 2021 batch ‘A’, Stream II, Corps members held in Akure, the state capital.
Represented by an Assistant Director of the scheme, Mrs Adejoke Fashola, Mrs Ani explained that out of the number, 13 corps members would have their service year extended for various misdemeanours while 14 others would have their service year repeated for absconding from service.
The Coordinator, however, pointed out that a Corps member, Victor Onwuemene would be rewarded with state honour and two others would receive the state Coordinator’s commendation certificate.
Mrs Ani called on the Corps members to be good ambassadors and eschew acts of arrogance and rudeness if they wanted to achieve in life.
In a remark, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu urged the corps members to always render assistance to security agencies for a safer society.
Represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youths Development, Chief Dele Ologun, Governor Akeredolu gave the assurance that the state government would always provide security to corps members who chose to stay behind.
The 2021 batch A, Stream 2 corps members in Oyo state, have been told to harness the financial opportunity created by National Youth Service Corps to kick start various business skills acquired during their mandatory one year service.
The Oyo state coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs Grace Ogbuoegebe stated this during the passing out parade ceremony held at the Lekan Salami stadium.
Mrs Ogbuoegebe explained that NYSC had collaborated with some financial institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, banks of Industry and of agriculture in a bid to ensure that corps members have unhindered access to loans.
Mrs Ogbuoegebe who said entrepreneurship and development skills acquired by corps members were enough for them to stand on their own said diligence and humility were strongly needed by the corps members to remain relevant in the current global market conditions.
In his address, the Oyo state governor, Governor Seyi Makinde represented by the commissioner of youth and sports development, Mr Seun Fakorede said since government alone could not provide the white-collar job to meet the job demands of Nigeria’s young graduates, it has become imperative for the corps members to make good use of the SAED Programme and eschew all forms of evil practices.
While advising the corps members to remain good ambassadors of the scheme, Governor Makinde said the outgoing corps members had immensely contributed to the development of their host communities through the implementation of community development projects.
Four thousand, seven hundred and fifty-four corps members were passed out in the 2021 batch A stream two.
The National Youth Service Corps has gone a step further in its achievement with the inauguration of its Radio and Television Stations.
The Director General of the Scheme, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim explained that the philosophy behind the establishment of the Radio and Television stations was to educate and entertain Nigerians, give the scheme stronger voice to sensitize Nigerians on the policies of government, in addition to the promotion of national unity and value re- orientation.
Major General Shuaibu explained that the stations, to be run by corps members, would contribute in redirecting the mindsets of youths towards positive ventures.
He said the revamping of the NYSC Ventures had generated revenue of over one billion naira from 2020 to 2021.
He listed other achievements of the scheme to include: NYSC movies, museum, national cultural troupe and the establishment of the North Central Skill Acquisition Centre.
The founder of the scheme, Retired Major General Yakubu Gowon, said the media outfits were veritable tools for driving the nation’s quest for national unity and development.
The Director Press and Public Relations, Mr. Eddy Megwa pointed out that the NYSC Radio and Television hit the airwaves barely a month after being licenced and commended the Director General for the giant stride.
A 23-year-old man has been apprehended after posing as a corps member at the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Bauchi State.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ahmed Wakili, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Bauchi on Friday.
The said impostor had faked a call-up letter in the bid to infiltrate the NYSC camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
According to the statement by the PPRO, the command had followed up on a complaint about stealing at the NYSC Secretariat.
The complaint was signed by the Corps State Coordinator, Namadi Abubakar, on behalf of the Director-General of the NYSC, Maj. Gen. Shuaib Ibrahim.
The complaint had raised suspicions about one Muhammed Bello Hassan with NYSC number: NYSC/USS/2022/27708 and state code of BA/22A/1580.
“The aforementioned name manoeuvred his way into the orientation camp with a fake call-up letter.
“In the end, he ran out of luck and he was caught with two cell phones and some valuable items alleged to be stolen from corps members in the camp.
“Investigation was expanded to our office where the corps member is present in the state Criminal Investigation Department.
“The Commissioner of Police detailed the state CID to investigate and unravel the circumstances on how he came to the orientation camp,” Wakili said.
After painstaking investigations into the matter, it was discovered that the said Mohammed Bello Hassan was a dropout from a reputable university in Nigeria, where he had gone to study Biology in the Faculty of Sciences.
The command’s spokesman Wakili revealed that the imposter had decided to try his luck at the orientation camp following complaints from his mother who had wondered why he was yet to graduate from the university and serve at the NYSC as some of his mates had done.
“He came to Bauchi and entered the orientation camp at night.
“His purpose of coming to the camp was as a result of advice by one of his friends who told him to go to NYSC camp, wear the uniform and snap some pictures to send to his parents as evidence of service,” Wakili revealed.
He said the impostor, however, met his waterloo when he got broke almost at the end of the orientation course and decided to pilfer in order to offset a lingering debt.
“He had no money and had stolen two phones and used the phone to clear his debt of N17,000 with a noodles seller at Mami market who gave him a balance of N10,000 after collecting the two phones,” the police noted.
Wakili said police confirmed the phones found with the noodles seller who later confessed that they were offered to him as payment of a debt owed by the fake corps member.
The Public Relations Officer, NYSC, Bauchi State, Mr Aliyu Suleiman, said the man came in with a posting letter but was not registered, as he kept evading the authorities, having stolen a corps member’s uniform, money and other valuables.
Suleiman said, “There had been cases of stealing as of late until he was caught.
Even my external hard disc that was worth N36,000 was stolen and we have not found it yet.”

Major General Ibrahim said the Health Initiative was aimed at providing easy access to free and qualitative health care, especially for the rural poor who for one reason or another could not access hospitals.
He noted that the wife of Nigeria President, Dr Aisha Buhari had demonstrated goodwill by donating well-equipped ambulances for the operation of the NYSC mobile clinics.
The Director-General reminded the corps members that COVID-19 was far from over, hence he warned them to ” adhere strictly to the outlined preventive measures such as physical distancing, wearing of face masks and the use of handwashing facilities provided at strategic locations throughout the orientation period.”
Major General Ibrahim also encouraged them to avail themselves of the opportunities for self-employment offered through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED programme because white-collar jobs were no more fashionable.

Radio Nigeria observed that 2,380 corps members comprising 834 males and 1,546 females were posted to Oyo State for their one year mandatory service year.
The corps members were earlier administered an oath of allegiance.

Major General Ibrahim explained that once operational, the Trust Fund would enhance the quality of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurs Development, SAED, scheme through provision of adequate training materials, while all bankable business proposals would be supported with startup grants.
He said the benefiting Corps members would be expected to step down the vocational training or employ a good number of youths of their host Communities, thereby pulling millions of Nigerians out of poverty and stemming the tide of youth restiveness and the tendency for criminality.
The NYSC boss thanked the House of Representatives in particular and the entire National Assembly for the progress made so far on the legislative processes on the Bill for the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund.
Major General Ibrahim who charged the Corp members on good conduct said, “let me also warn that social vices such as drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrime and advanced fee fraud will not be condoned.”
He thanked the Federal government for providing the enabling environment for the takeoff of the ‘Corps members’ enrolment in the National Health Insurance Scheme under a comprehensive initiative known as NYSC Group Individual Family Social Health Insurance Programme.
In her own admonition, the state coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka pleaded with Corps Employers to accept members that were posted to them and take care of the like their own children.

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) says it has concluded plans to provide health/medical care cover for serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) corps members in Osun.
The Director of NHIS, Osun Office, Mr Hamed Yahaya made this known at the Osogbo Township Stadium,during the NHIS enrollment sensitisation exercise organised for corps members serving in Osun.
The medical cover is tagged, Group, Individual, Family, Social Health Insurance Programme GIFSHIP.
Mr Yahaya explained that the NHIS, which commenced operations in 2005 would now be providing medical/health cover for active corps members serving across the country adding that the corps members in Osun are lucky to be part of the first set of beneficiaries of the NHIS-NYSC corps members health care cover.
The Osun NHIS Director hinted that the health insurance enrollment sensitisation for corps members in the state commenced on Wednesday covering the three NYSC zones of Ilesa,Ile-Ife,Ikirun Osogbo being the last zone.
In a presentation, a moderator from NHIS, Mrs Sekinat Yusuf explained that the GIFSHIP was to ensure every mobilised and serving corps member had access to good health care service.
She said following unfortunate reports in 2016 about the death of some corps members due to health related issues, President Muhammadu Buhari directed the inclusion of NYSC corps members under NHIS coverage.
Mrs Yusuf highlighted the process and procedure the corps members would follow to get registered for the health insurance programme, adding that once they are registered, they no longer pay for medical treatment received from their chosen health care providers/hospitals.
She, however, added that the GIFSHIP only covered the corps members while still serving and that the coverage ends three weeks after their service year and whosoever wants to continue using the insurance package would need to pay for it.
Earlier, the NYSC South West Office, representative, Mr Oluwole Amusan, congratulated the corps members in Osun State for being part of the first set of beneficiaries of the NHIS insurance scheme.
Mr Amusan said though the NYSC had several welfare packages for their corps members, the present batches of corps members were lucky to be the first set of enrollees for the NHIS-NYSC healthcare package.
The National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, has sanctioned eighteen corps members in Ondo state for contravening the rules guiding the scheme during their service year.
Out of the number, nine corps members had their service year extended for various misdemeanors while nine others would have their service year repeated for absconding from service , both sanctioned were however subjected to the approval of the NYSC headquarters .
The NYSC coordinator in the state, Mrs Victoria Ani announced this during the passing out ceremony for the 2021 batch ‘A’, Stream 1, corps members held in Akure,the state capital.
The coordinator however pointed out that, a Corps member was rewarded with state honour and twenty five others received state coordinator’s commendation certificates.
Mrs Ani called on the Corps members to be good ambassadors and eschew criminal acts, if they wanted to achieve in life.
In a message, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu gave the assurance that, the state government would always provide security to corps members who chose to stay behind.
Eight out of a total of one thousand and nineteen corps members deployed to Osun State are to repeat their service year for absconding, while seven others bagged extension for various misconduct.
The indication emerged at the passing out ceremony of the 2021 Batch A, stream 1 Corps members deployed to the state.
Speaking at the Osogbo township stadium, during the ceremony, Osun State coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka congratulated the outgoing Corp members for the successful completion of the one year compulsory Service.
Mrs Shokpeka noted that ceremonial celebration of the passing out ceremony was due to their patriotic commitment to the fight against COVID-19.
She advised the outgoing Corp members to apply the useful lessons of dignity of labour, self reliance, selfless Service and peaceful co_existence that had been inculcated into them.
The Osun coordinator further admonished the successful Corp members to focus more on self employment rather than the endless search for white collar jobs.
In a remark, Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola said the establishment of NYSC Trust Fund was the only solution to mitigating the problem of maintenance of camp facilities.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports , Mr Azeez Lawal, the Governor stated that the Trust Fund would serve as a veritable tool in setting up entrepreneurs among the corps members.
” Given the economic state of the country, please do well to cultivate the skills you have acquired in the SAED”. Oyetola said the NYSC trust fund would provide seamless source of resources for the expansion of the NYSC orientation camp.
He said the people of Osun state appreciated the immense contributions of the Corp members in the areas of education, health care delivery, agriculture and rural development.
“There is hardly any community in the state where the presence of the scheme is not felt. We will continue to pledge our support to the NYSC, giving priority attention to welfare and safety of corps members” .The Governor added.
Corp members posted to Oyo state have been told to eschew social vices and abuse of social media.
The DG, National Youth Service Corps, Beefier General Shuaibu Ibrahim gave the warning during the swearing in ceremony of the 2021 Batch C stream two corps members in Iseyin.
Speaking through the Oyo state cordinator, of NYSC, Mrs Grace Ogbuegebe, Brigadier General Ibrahim said, corp members should abide by the rules guiding NYSC camping and avail themselves skill acquisition and entrepreneurial development put in place by the scheme.
Brigadier General Ibrahim added that corp members should get themselves vaccinated from and adhere to covid 19 safety measures. The 2,330 corps members posted to Oyo state had earlier been administered oath of allegiance by the Chief Judge of Oyo state Justice Munktar Abimbola who was represented by Justice Iyabo Yerinma.
The National Youth Service Corps Oyo State has been blessed with the birth of a new born baby girl. The mother, Olayanju Eniola who is a Prospective corps member with State code OY/21C/ 4581 fell into labor during her registration process at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin, on Thursday 25th November 2021 and was quickly rushed to the General Hospital,Iseyin.
The Assistant Director Corps Inspection and Monitoring ( Head Camp Clinic) Mrs Olusesi Adebimpe, who was with her all the way ensured she was given adequate attention.Olayanju Eniola was eventually delivered of a baby girl on Friday 26th of November 2021.
The State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, who was highly elated on hearing the news led a delegation of principal Camp Officials to the hospital to see how the mother and child were faring.
Mrs Ogbuogebe having confirmed that both the mother and child were in a good health presented a cash gift to the new born baby. She appreciated the management of the General Hospital,Iseyin for their care and support for the mother and child.
Alfa Ismail Olayanju,the husband of the prospective corps member expressed his delight at the way NYSC Oyo State promptly and adequately managed his wife’s case.He equally expressed his gratitude for the show of love to the mother and the new baby.
Present at the General hospital with the State Coordinator were the Camp Director, Mrs Mariam Umogah, Assistant Director Corps Inspection and Monitoring Mrs Olusesi Adebimpe and the Assistant Director Press and Public Relations unit Mrs Christy Olatoye.
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaib Ibrahim says, it is unlawful for government agencies and parastatals to reject corps members posted to their establishment for the national service.
The Director-General who was represented by the NYSC Director of Community Services and Special Projects, Alhaji Abdulrazak Salawu, stated this while flagging off this year’s Corps’ Employers’ Workshop at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State.

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC has taken its medical outreach programme to some rural communities in Osun State.
Flagging off the programme at Apomu in Isokan Local Government, the NYSC Coordinator in Osun State, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka said the initiative was part of the mandate of the scheme to impact rural dwellers, improve corps members’ sense of national integration and patriotism.
Mrs. Shokpeka explained that residents of rural communities would benefit immensely from such interventions, considering the distance of hospitals to them and sometimes money to access basic medical care.
The NYSC Coordinator in Osun State appealed to all members of communities benefiting in the outreach to take advantage of the opportunity to know their health status as a measure to prevent fatalities.
Also speaking, the Head of the NYSC Medical Team, Dr Chidinma Ibe hinted that the programme was a volunteer initiative of the corps medical personnel to create awareness, to help the rural dwellers find answers to some of their hidden health questions.
She stated that the intervention would provide succour for the people because some of them did not visit the hospital for lack of money and other personal reasons.
Dr Ibe pointed out that the programme was designed majorly for the elderly due to the obvious challenges associated with health at old age with risk of high blood sugar, high blood pressure and degenerating immune system.
She advised the people to take their health more seriously and go for medical checkups at least once a year.
Beneficiaries of the medical outreach were taken through diabetes, blood sugar and blood pressure screening by the medical corps of the NYSC.
As the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 corps members in Oyo State proceed to their places of primary assignment to commence their one-year national service, the corps members have again been warned to avoid using the social media platform to spread hate speech.
The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim gave the warning during the official closing of the orientation camp of the Batch C Stream 1 Corps members at the Orientation Camp in Iseyin.
Speaking through the Oyo State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Grace Ogbuoegebe, Brigadier General Ibrahim said the corps members should not be speculative about issues but use the media platform for self-development as well as seek more information from the official website of the scheme.
Brigadier General Ibrahim who said the corps members should make themselves available for COVID-19 vaccination said the vaccine was mandatory as the December 1st deadline given by the federal government might affect them in their primary places of assignment.
While reassuring the corps members of the resolve of the scheme to liaise with financial institutions and stakeholders to provide start-up loans to enable them to implement the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, SAED, the NYSC DG advised the corps members to be security-conscious and avoid acts capable of tarnishing the image of NYSC and the institutions they were representing.
The 1,647 batch C stream 1 members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, posted to Oyo state have been sworn in this morning by the chief Judge of Oyo state, Justice Munktar Abimbola in Iseyin.
The figure representing 797 males and 850 females were administered oath of allegiance by the representative of the chief judge, Justice Iyabode Yerinma.
Addressing the Corps members, on behalf of the Director-General, of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim the Oyo state coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe urged the Corps members to take the vocational and skill acquisition and development programme of the scheme very serious as it would enable them become self-reliant.
Brigadier general Ibrahim said arrangements were being perfected with NCDC to ensure that the Corp members were given COVID 19 vaccine during the orientation course.
Radio Nigeria observed that apart from the main gate that was closed contrary to what it used to be, no special guest were in attendance except the representative of the chief judge who was tested through the infrared thermometer at point of entering the camp.
Our correspondent also observed that the Corp members who were putting on their nose mask were also made to observe physical distancing after being tested for COVID 19.
Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim wants corps members to use the Social Media to promote the scheme and Nigeria, rather than peddling rumours, spreading hate speech and promoting views that are inimical to the unity and development of Nigeria.
The admonition is contained in his address to the swearing-in ceremony of participants in the Batch C, stream 1 Orientation exercise at the permanent orientation camp in Ede, Osun state.
In the address presented by the Osun state Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Shokpeka Winifred, the Director General reminded the corps members that as ambassadors of the scheme and that of Nigeria, they had an obligation to project the country, promote her unity in diversity and her social economic growth.
Brigadier General Ibrahim explained that in the last few years, the scheme had undergone paradigm shift putting into cognizance the economic reality of the country and security of the global community, hence participants were being equipped with self defense skills and entrepreneurial programme.
In her opening remark, the Osun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs Shokpeka Winifred said more than before, the scheme has designed mechanism to further encourage young people to love themselves and used the communication gadgets such as mobile telephones to spread the message of love and oneness, saying that remains the most important at this period in Nigeria.
Mrs Winifred urged the participants to commit themselves to the tenets of national integration and unity, shun all religious intolerance or ethic bigotry and learn to respect one another differences.
She said the regimented orientation course was to instill discipline in the corps, expose them to the ideal of the scheme as well to equip them to effect the needed changes in the people of their host communities.

Of the one thousand six hundred and fifty corps members posted to Osun state, one thousand five hundred and thirty four, including seven hundred and seventy six males and seven hundred and seventy eight females were sworn-in to participate in the 2021 Batch C stream 1 Orientation Course in Osun State.
Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has warned corps members against involvement in the local politics of their host communities, engagement in cybercrime, advanced fee fraud, drug abuse and child trafficking.
The admonition is contained in his address to the corps members during the closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch B stream II orientation course.
In the address which was presented by the Osun State coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Adewale Adegoke, the Director General also admonished the corps members to appreciate and respect the culture of their host communities.
He said leaning on their education and orientation, they should consciously identify what they could do to add value to their host, saying such is necessary to promote the unity and peaceful coexistence of Nigeria.
Brigadier General Ibrahim advised them to take seriously all the skills acquired during the 3 weeks training in the Skill, Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, at the camp, so that they could be self-reliant rather than struggling for unavailable white collar jobs.
In an interview, the Osun State Coordinator, Mr. Adewale Adegoke cautioned the participants against night journeys, night parties, staying out late at night, visitation to dangerous places and acceptance of car ride from strangers.
Mr. Adegoke appealed to corps employers to provide modest comfort for them and treat them like their own children.
Some of the corps members who spoke with Radio Nigeria expressed delight at their postings and pledged to serve their father land diligently.
One of them, Miss Farida Sanni from American University, Yola Adamawa state who said being in Osun for the first time was a privilege to explore the beauty and diversity of Nigeria.
