Plateau Speaker Gabriel Dewan has sworn-in nine out of the 16 All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers.

The swearing-in took place in the early hours of Friday 5th April, 2024, in Jos.

It was gathered that, the member from Jos-East was appointed as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.

Dewan was said to have justified the swearing-in, based on a letter he received mentioning where it emanated from.

President Bola Tinubu assures Nigerians that the envoys of death, pain, and sorrow will not escape justice.

President Tinubu stated this while condemning the brutal attacks in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State, which resulted in the loss of many lives.

According to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the president has directed security agencies to immediately move in, comb every stretch of the zone, and apprehend the culprits.

He also directed the immediate mobilisation of relief resources for surviving victims of the cruel attacks, as well as medical treatment for the wounded. 

President Tinubu, therefore, condoled with the government and the people of Plateau State over the attacks.

Twenty persons were reportedly killed with over 10 others injured by assailants in Heipang District of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State in North Central Nigeria.

Residents of the community narrated that the attackers came in the early hours of Thursday and invaded the community while they were sleeping. The efforts of vigilantes in the community were not enough to ward off the attackers who had superior firepower against the vigilantes’ Dane guns.

The duel with the attackers resulted in the death of four of the vigilantes as the attackers set some houses on fire, burning residents who were asleep and could not escape from the sudden attack.

According to John Mark Pam, who lost five relatives comprising his brother Dung Mark, the wife and three children, the attackers invaded the compound, set the building ablaze and killed all members of the family in their sleep.

Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident, stating that security has be reinforced in the community with personnel on the trail of the attackers.

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the brutal terrorist attacks in Kanam and Wase Local Government Areas of Plateau, describing the killings as heinous.

In a statement by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, on Tuesday in Abuja, the president said the perpetrators should not be allowed to escape justice.

“They should not be spared or forgiven,” he further directed.

He ordered law enforcement agencies to work with the government of the state, to bring the situation under control and take steps to bring the culprits to justice quickly.

President Buhari expressed condolences over the terrorist incident, saying that as a matter of priority, peace must return at all costs to the state and the entire country.

“I urge all our citizens, the people of Plateau State in particular, to expose the perpetrators of such incidents, their sponsors and those who encourage such criminals who carry out these dastardly acts of murder, so that the law will take its course”.

”They must not be forgiven,” the president said.

The Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye says the challenges facing policy implementation in Nigeria is as a result of tribalism and corruption.

Mr. Owoeye stated this during the visit of management of National Institute for Policy Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, Plateau State to the State House of Assembly Complex in Osogbo.

While condemning tribalism, nepotism, selfishness and corruption of political office holders and public at large, the speaker said it is the duty of all Nigerians to ensure proper implementation of government policies.

The speaker called for the review 1999 constitution and proactive restructuring of Nigeria for peaceful coexistence of all tribes in the country.

Mr. Owoeye who called for inclusion of people at the grassroots in designing policies and implementation, noted that implementers of the policy are not sincere to the nation.

Some of the lawmakers at the meeting urged everyone to eschew politics of bitterness, community conflict and corruption for better society.

They advised governments on proper implementation of security, education, economy and electoral policies as well as the independence of each arm of government.

Earlier, the leader of the team and Acting Director of Studies, Dr. Nasirudeen Usman, said the aim of the tour was to look into challenges facing policy implementation in the country.

While commending the state government under the leadership of Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, on developmental policy implementation in Osun State, Dr. Usman solicited the support of every stakeholders to ensure successful policy implementation.

Death toll has risen to twenty two in the killings in some communities in the central zone of Plateau State.

Governor Simon Lalong confirmed the figure when he met with the community leaders at the Government House in Jos, the state capital.

Appraising the security situation in the state, Governor Lalong expressed displeasure with the efforts of the security agencies and the role of leaders in some of the communities that have been under severe attacks recently.

The Governor decried the latest attacks where gunmen invaded Ruboi and Marish communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of the state during which 15 people were alleged to have been killed and five others injured with several buildings destroyed.

Governor Lalong read the riot act at the meeting and condemned the activities of those who were bent on taking the state back to the dark days of chaos.

He, therefore, ordered the arrest of community leaders in the affected areas until the suspects involved in the various attacks were produced.

The Commissioner of Police in Plateau, was among the stakeholders present at the meeting.

In his briefing at the meeting, the state commissioner of Police, Mr Isaac Akinmoyede cautioned the community leaders against instigating members to take up arms in situations that would have been resolved amicably and not to harbour criminals in their domain.
