The ancient town of Owo in Ondo state was on Friday thrown into jubilation as Prince Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye emerged the new Olowo of Owo-elect.

An election conducted by Officials of Owo Local Government headed by Director of Local Government Administration, Mr. Segun Omojuwa who also served as the Returning Officer declared that Prince Ajibade Ogunoye scored 14 out of 15 votes cast by the Senior Omoolowos to defeat 15 other contestants.

The President of Council of Senior Omolowos, Oba Kofoworola Oladoyinbo, who declared Prince Ogunoye, who until now a Director in the Ondo state Civil service, an Oba-Elect, said due process was followed.

Our Correspondent who witnessed the peaceful selection process, reports that immediately the name of the winner filtered into the town, the people in their thousands trooped out in jubilation with drums and singing.

Prince Ogunoye himself joined the crowd who had been waiting outside the Olowo’s palace the venue of the election in an open-roof car waving and thanking the people for their support.

The Prince who will immediately start traditional rites for installation, will succeed late Oba Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi who joined his ancestors three months ago.
