Less than a week after a similar incident, suspected kidnappers have struck again in the Oke Ogun area of Oyo State. 

It occurred Wednesday evening at a farm settlement located along Iseyin – Ipapo Road where two farm workers and the owner of a poultry farm were reportedly abducted.

However, following a combined operation by members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN from Iseyin and Itesiwaju Local Government Areas, two of the farm workers have been rescued, while the search for the poultry farmer identified as Alfa Soliu Adesola, a.k.a Alokonigbo continues.

Radio Nigeria gathered from one of the vigilantes that the suspected kidnappers are now demanding a thirty million naira ransom.

Oyo State Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, Comrade Sunday Olajide confirmed the incident saying the suspects would soon be nabbed and handed over to the police.

Regular dialogue and consultation among farmers, herders, and other stakeholders is the key to enhancing food security and peace in farming communities in Oyo State.

This was part of the consensus reached by a forum in Oyo Town, attended by Fulani Cattle breeders, Yoruba farmers, security agencies, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN.

Speaking on behalf of the cattle breeders and herders, a strong member of the Miyetti Allah Group, Alhaji Yakubu Bello suggested that middlemen should no longer be involved in settling farmer herder disputes for lasting peace to reign.

While thanking Governor Seyi Makinde for his efforts on sustainable security in the state, Alhaji Bello called for the provision of drinkable water to Fulani communities across the state.

Another stakeholder, Comrade Sunday Olajide reiterated the need for unity among cattle breeders and synergy among the security agencies for the sake of peace and food security in Oyo State.

There is need for Nigerians and the relevant security agencies in the country to work together in the bid to strengthen community policing.

Ogun State Commandant of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, Mr Adesanya Adegbenga made the submission during a courtesy visit to the General Manager of Radio Nigeria Paramount FM Abeokuta, Mr Akinyinka Akintola.

Mr Adegbenga who said that the group was working with the Police and other security agencies to tackle crime in the society, appealed for Radio Nigeria’s support in promoting the activities of the VGN.

Also, the Group’s Deputy Commandant in charge of Administration, Mr Binigboro Gabriel who described community policing as the most effective tool for checking crimes in the society encouraged the people to support the VGN.

Responding, the General Manager of Paramount FM Abeokuta, Mr Akintola expressed the hope that the relevant security outfits would make greater impacts on enhancing the security of lives and property at the grassroots.

He promised the station’s readiness in projecting the activities of the VGN, among other organizations tackling crimes across the state.

For many months now the people of Temidire and Olorunsogo communities in Atiba Local Government Area in Oyo Town have been wondering about what could be responsible for frequent motor accidents at a certain portion of the expressway in their area.

According to them, at least three incidents of road mishaps are usually recorded weekly at the same spot along the Oyo-Ogbomoso express road claiming lives.

Yesterday night, the surveillance mounted at the spot paid off following the discovery of a big white onion laced with needles strategically placed on a section of the road by unknown persons.

One of the residents who is also a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, Kola Olaoye told Radio Nigeria that the discovery of the mysterious onion could be the likely answer to the cause of frequent accidents at the spot.

Also speaking on the discovery, the chairman of joint communities in the area, Alhaji Sarafadeen Ajibola expressed hope that the discovery would save residents the agony of sending out distress calls to rescue accident victims.

Describing community policing as the best security option in the area, Alhaji Ajibola said the strange onion which is dangerous for any vehicle to run over would be handed over to the police while efforts would be doubled to know those behind the evil act.

As a result of incidents of kidnapping in some parts of Oyo State and following a tip off, some members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, have started raiding forests in Afijio and Oyo West Local Government areas.

The raid on sections of the forest believed to be the den of kidnappers had led to the arrest of five suspects with two others on the run.

A member of the VGN who took part in the raid but did not want his name mentioned, shed more light on the operation to Radio Nigeria’s correspondent.

Speaking on the raid, Oyo State commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Comrade Sunday Olajide said the arrested suspects had been handed over to the Police Monitoring Unit at Durbar, Oyo.

When contacted, Police Area Commander, Mr.  Kadmiel Madayi said he was only told about arrest of one person.

Nigeria Police, Oyo State Command has begun search and arrest operation at Idi Ayunre forest, Oluyole Local Government, where three people were recently kidnapped. 

The operation, which was led by assistant Commissioner of police in charge of operations, Mr Gbenga Ojo was supported by the men of Amotekun, hunters association and Vigilante Group of Nigeria. 

The team combed the forest at idi Ayunre which linked Oyo and Ogun states for several hours hoping to find the kidnappers and their victims.

The team leader, ACP Ojo said the search operations became imperative as the rate of kidnapping was high on Ibadan-Ijebu road.

Mr Ojo noted that this made the Command to partner the local security operatives as they were more familiar with the terrain. 

He said though no arrests was made yet but the Command would do all it could to ensure that the issue of kidnapping and other criminalities became a thing of the past.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police called on members of the public to also partner the police in bringing down the spate of kidnapping by reporting suspicious characters or movement for quick intervention.

Mr Ojo therefore advised people who are fond of night traveling to exercise caution in other not to fall victim of kidnapping, especially during the period. 

It would be recalled that three people were kidnapped at Idi Ayunre in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State three days ago and are still in the captivity of the suspected kidnappers.

The synergy between the Operation Burst team and other local security groups in Iseyin has been described as robust and responsible for the return of normalcy to socioeconomic life in the area.

Commander, Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Iseyin, Ms Comfort Adesola who said this while giving an update on post-#EndSARS protest noted that the Operation Burst team they have been working with had conducted themselves well, even as more looted items were voluntarily returned.

Three more motorcycles were returned today apart from sundry items recovered from different parts of the town.

However, a shooting incident by suspected hoodlums which occurred Tuesday at Ado Awaye near Iseyin almost reversed the peace being restored to the area.

Reacting to the shooting of two young herders who are have now being hospitalized, former chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders in Oyo state, Alh Yakubu Bello said the act was provocative and called on Governor Seyi Makinde to prevail on those trying to foment ethnic trouble.
