For Nigeria to witness true development and progress, government at all levels must take security seriously with strong political will devoid of external influences.

A keynote speaker, Prof. Eghosa Osaghae stated this at the Polytechnic Ibadan, Faculty of Business and Communication Studies, FBCS, International Conference, with the theme “Technology, Security and Socioeconomic Development in Africa”.

Prof Osaghae who decried the gap between the rich and the poor as well as increase in unemployment rate which he described as major factor fuelling insecurity in Nigeria, said no country can develop without a practicable framework.

Speaking on the topic, ” Development: what it takes and what it is not” the Professor of Political Science believed that the end product of any development is absolute security for every citizens.

In a lead paper titled “4th Industrial Revolution, Artificial Intelligence Technology and the place of Africa” Professor Abiodun Salawu said every Nigerian need to upgrade technologically to develop the country through creation of more jobs.

Earlier, Dean, Faculty of Business and Communication Studies, Mr Femi Ipadeola said the theme of the conference is apt.

The one week International conference which is having over 200 participants ends on Friday this week.
