The alleged Akinyele serial killer, Sunday Shodipe has been transferred to the Nigeria Correctional Services for maximum security.

Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Nwachukwu Enwonwu stated this while parading Shodipe after he was rearrested alongside other suspects who were arrested for various offences.

For some time now, residents of Akinyele Local Government Area in Ibadan, Oyo State have been facing serious issues of insecurity leading to killing and raping of some of the residents.

This forced the police to increase efforts which resulted into the arrest of a nineteen year old boy, Sunday Shodipe.

After his arrest, the residents heaved a sigh of relief that days of terror were over.

The relief was however cut short few days after, when Sunday Shodipe escaped from police custody and murdered another resident of Akinyele.

The alleged serial killer, Sunday Shodipe who said the herbalist that was locked alongside him begged the officer on duty to buy local gin and kolanut which the herbalist used to fortify him (Shodipe) in aiding his escape.

Shidipo noted that he went straight to Akinyele to kill another woman as directed by the herbalist before going into hiding before he was rearrested.

Also, a group of suspected armed robbers who robbed a bank at Okeho Area of Oyo said they killed one officer and blew up the ATM and carted away an unspecified amount of money.

One of the suspects, Muhammed Aliasu who claimed that he was forced to join in the robbery, said they were later arrested by some local hunters.

Another suspect, who is also a private security guard, Daniel Amanda said he met with a stranded woman at night who needed somewhere to stay till daybreak whom he raped under the guise of offering her refuge at his home.

Other suspected criminals who were arrested for various offences ranging from rape, defilement, armed robbery, kidnaping and murder confessed to the charges levelled against them and pleaded for leniency.

Parading the suspects, Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Nwachuku Enwonwu said he appreciated the collaboration of the community who made the re-arrest of Sunday Shodipe a success and called for continued support as the police could not be everywhere.

Mr Enwonwu pledged the commitment of the command to reduce crime and criminalities to the barest minimum.

The Commissioner of Police added that all the suspects would soon be charged to court after proper investigation.

Exhibits found with the suspects included four AK-47 riffles, three assault rifles, many live cartridges, one motorcycle, three television sets, local charms and some cash.
