It was the gathering of who is who, as families, friends, legal luminaries, academicians, politicians, traditional and religious leaders celebrate the professor of literacy and open distance learning, at the University of Ibadan, Professor Rashid Aderinoye who retired at the age of seventy.

The event held at the University of Ibadan Muslim Community Islamic Centre was organized by the University of Ibadan Muslim Graduates’ Association, UIMGA.

Among the personalities, who lauded the academic prowess of Professor Aderinoye was the former pro chancellor, University of Lagos, Dr Wale Babalakin, who described the celebrant as an excellent community leader held in high esteem.

Also contributing, Senator Teslim Folarin said Professor Aderinoye had matched his academic qualifications with practical skills

Senator Folarin stressed the need for curriculum review that accommodate academic with skills acquisition.

In his tribute, the Olubosin of Ifetedo, Obaakinola Akinrera noted that Professor Aderinoye had impacted Ifetedo where he hailed from through provision of employment and transformation of the community.

The Zonal Director, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Ibadan National Station, Alhaji Muhammed Bello, said Professor Adrinoye was a complete academician whose impact had been felt in the adult and nomadic education in Nigeria.

In an interview the celebrant, Professor Rashid Arinoye expressed gratitude to God, praying the Divine to grant him good health so as to further serve humanity.

Professor Aderinoye who lamented poor funding of education and poor management of resources allocated to the sector, said improved funding of education remained the panacea to qualitative education in Nigeria.

High point of the event was the launch of a book titled ‘Who is Professor Rashid Aderinoye? Compendium of Tributes’.
