Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola says the Olaiya flyover is not just an iconic project designed for ostentatious purposes but one of the government’s measures to ensure the safety of citizens’ lives.

Governor Oyetola stated this during his inspection tour of the diversion points during the demonstration closure of the Ogo-Oluwa-Olaiya-MDS corridor on Friday.

According to him, the Olaiya flyover was meant to take care of the traffic bottleneck around that intersection.

Governor Oyetola, who said there had been several accidents around there over the years, noted that the flyover would prevent the frequency of accident at Olaiya interchange.

Speaking earlier, Osun State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Remi Omowaiye, said the demonstration closure was the government’s empirical way of gathering data to improve the traffic diversion model during the eventual closure.

Mr Omowaye hinted that the construct of a flyover at the Olaiya intersection would be flagged off in the next two weeks, saying the diversion plans was part of the preparation for the commencement of the project

In a remark, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Transport, Mr Olatoke Olaniyan, lauded the idea of the flyover, adding that the various road crashes recorded at the intersection had been a source of concern to government.

He said the flyover, when completed, would ensure smoother traffic flow and also add aesthetics to  Olaiya area of the State capital.
