There was palpable fear in Koka village in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State following suspected herdsmen invasion of the community to abduct villagers.
Radio Nigeria gathered that the armed herdsmen invaded the village about 11:50 PM on Sunday to carry out their nefarious act.
A source in the village told Radio Nigeria that the herdsmen stormed the village and started forceful pick up of villagers from their houses at random.
The source, who simply gave is name as Thomas explained that those who carried out the attack were herdsmen, who were armed and threatened to kill anybody that dared them.
He said it was one of the villagers that informed The Hunters Group of Nigeria on phone about the attack and they moved to the village.
He narrated further that upon arrival of the hunters at the village, the herdsmen started shooting at them, but the hunters in collaboration with the villagers repelled them in a gun duel that lasted over thirty minutes, forcing the herdsmen to flee.
Another source named, Wale disclosed that Police later moved to the village and went after the herdsmen.
In a telephone conversation, the Police Public Public Relation Officer, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incidence, explaining that Some hoodlums suspected to be herdsmen attacked Koka village and villagers and hunters moved against them by engaging the hoodlums in a gun battle to liberate themselves.
Mrs Opalola said three hunters that sustained bullet wounds had been taken to State specialist Hospital, Asubiaro,Osogbo for treatment.
She added that men of the force had been drafted to the area, assisted by locals to cordon off scene in search of the fleeing attackers.
The police spokesperson later issued a statement to further confirm the attack
