The Vice Chancellor of BOWEN University Iwo, Osun State, Professor Joshua Ogunwole says, the University has recorded tremendous achievements in the fulfillment of the mandate of its establishment as a faith based institution in the last twenty years.
Professor Ogunwole stated this while addressing a press Conference on the University Campus in Iwo to herald the 20th anniversary celebration of the Ivory Tower.
Represented by the Vice Chancellor Academics, Professor Ebenezer Atobatele, the Vice Chancellor pointed out that in twenty years, the institution that commenced academic activities with five hundred and eight students had graduated over thirteen students.
He added that BOWEN University currently had forty two academic programmed, out of which thirty one had full accreditation, while eleven are not ripe for full accreditation.
The University Don who described BOWEN as a Christian based Baptist Convention owned School with its driving vision of Excellence and Godliness, remarked that its over thirteen thousand graduate products, both undergraduates and post-graduates were making significant impact in their various fields of human endeavour across the world.
Professor Ogunwole hinted that the University, as part of its corporate social responsibility had touched its immediately community in forms of various interventions, given scholarship of different categories to its students, including indigenes of Iwo, Olupona and Ileogbo, while children of Baptist faithful enjoy 15% rebate in school fees and those of staff of the institution have 10% reduction in their school fees.
According to him, aside the numerous awards won by the Citadel of Learning, it has also pioneered many innovations among Nigeria Universities. “BOWEN University is unarguably the first in the Nigeria University system to shift delivery mode from face to face to virtual, shifted to virtual teaching in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
Secondly, BOWEN is the first University in Nigeria to inculcate its virtual invigilation mechanism into its home grown learning management system. BOWEN is the first private University to run and graduate students for a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree in Nigeria”.
While responding to a question from Journalist, the BOWEN University’s helm man projected that the Ivory Tower would be among the leading centers of Excellence in research and innovation globally.
He also shed more light on the agitation of private institution for TETFUND support for privately owned Universities, saying, ” such is not in the area of infrastructure, but support for scholars in such institution to facilitate research activities which could impact on national development”
