Revival of value system, avoidance of religious extremism, attitudinal change to insecurity and youth empowerment have been reaffirmed as antidote to security challenges facing Nigeria.

The Founder and Spiritual Head, Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide, Professor Sabit Olagoke made the submission in a presentation during the 2022 annual stakeholders conference with the theme “Challenges of Insecurity and Terrorism in Nigeria” at Wakajaye, Ibadan.

Professor Olagoke, who emphasized that the conference which was in collaboration with the Centre for Religious Cooperation and Tolerance was to the restoration of peace in Nigeria suggested that Nigerians needed to become change agents, strong connection between religious centres and government policies, and harness youths potential to curb insecurity.

Professor Olagoke also called on government to be masses-focused and enthrone justice and equity in governance.

The founder of Shafaudeen in Islam urged Nigerians not to lose hope in a better Nigeria and prioritize communal harmony and brotherhood.

In another presentation on security and development issues, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State command, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko represented by the Commander, Federal Highway Patrol, Oyo State, Alhaji Usman Sarafadeen tasked parents to be conscious of their children’s company and movements, while stressing the imperative of youth reorientation and develop the zeal to change the society for better.

The Controller of Customs, Oyo/Osun Area Command, Mr. A. R. Abdulkadir represented by CSC Idowu Owolabi and the Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration, Oyo State Command, Mr Isa Dan-Sulaiman represented by the chief Imam of Immigration Mosque, Alhaji Abdulmumin Akinlabi identified insecurity as an enemy of business activities and investments, pointed out that there was the need for government to provide more border equipment, ensure security in volatile areas and intensity training of security personnel for adequate security of lives and property.

Highlights of the conference which had in attendance peace advocates, socio-cultural organizations was a cultural display by students of the Shafaudeen Group of School on the Importance of peace and unity and book presentations to security formations.
