The wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Anyawu- Akeredolu has tasked expectant mothers across the state to embrace safe motherhood practices in order to reduce maternal and child mortality rate in the state.

Mrs Akeredolu stated this at the distribution of Solayo kit to fifty expectant mothers at the Akure South Local Government Area of the state as part of activities to mark this International Women’s Day celebrations.

Mrs Akeredolu said the program was aimed to reduce the rate at which expectant mothers go to delivery rooms without kits and reduce the maternal mortality rate in the state.

Educating the expectant mothers during the program, primary health care coordinator in Akure south local government, Dr Adeyemi-Osowe Owosehun urged expectant mothers to practise personal hygiene and exercise regularly so as to deliver their babies safely.

He stressed the importance of a balanced diet for expectant mothers and the need for them to visit the hospital regularly, for both ante-natal and post-natal, to avoid untimely death.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Alice Daniel and Joy Nwoko thanked the governor’s wife for the gesture promised to make judicious use of the gifts and heed to her advice in their own interest.
