Oyo state government says the proposed business summit billed to hold in the United Kingdom this week is to improve investment capacity and boost the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, of the state.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa said this in an interview with Radio Nigeria following criticisms trailing the intending business summit.

Mr Adisa who highlighted thematic areas of the business summit to include solid minerals, energy, agribusiness, and tourism sectors, said the summit would avail Oyo state the opportunity to showcase its capabilities and endowment in these areas to the world.

Mr Adisa was optimistic that Oyo state would benefit immensely from the trip holding on Friday the 19th of this month.

On insinuations that the business summit is a capital flight, Mr Adisa queried why people would criticize such a business gathering, especially when it is taking place in the United Kingdom, presently believed to be the business capital of the world.

He said: “It is a business summit. The thematic area has to do with general business development itself, solid minerals, and then the tourism sector”.

States and countries organise business summits, there have been a series of business drives by Nigeria itself as a country in recent years and I don’t think that any of the critics would submit that these business summits or drives by different departments of the federal government are just wasteful ventures”

If you have something to show in terms of attracting foreign investors, the best thing is for you to showcase those things. If you have something to sell and you don’t showcase them, you put them under the table, who will see them? He queried.

Mr Adisa said the business capital of the world as we can see for now, is still London and so, taking your sales or wares to the business capital of the world can not be a wasteful venture.
