Osun State Emergency Management Agency, OSEMA, has urged residents to desist from any form of activity that may cause environmental hazards like fire outbreak and flooding in the state.

The General Manager of OSEMA, Mr Jide Falade, made the call in Osogbo while speaking with newsmen.

According to him, the call became imperative in view of the fast approaching dry season when fire disasters are common with its attendant losses and shortages.

Mr Falade listed some of the factors that may cause environmental hazards including dumping of refuse on waterways, building houses in areas that are prone to flooding, carelessness in handling electrical appliances at homes and offices, incessant bush burning by farmers and hunters, refusal to unplug unused electrical equipment, keeping of petrol at home and keeping of cylinders inside the vehicle among others.

He admonished residents to complement government’s efforts at putting preventable measures against disasters in place by playing their part.
