The Action Democratic party, ADP has picked Mr Ayodeji Akinnodi as its candidate for the November governorship election in Ondo State.

Mr Akinnodi was picked through a consensus which was affirmed by delegates from all the eighteen local government areas of the state.

The event held in Akure, the state capital was witnessed the ADP National Chairman, Mr Yabagi Yusuf, the State Chairman and Mr Olufemi Oladejo while it was supervised by INEC officials 

Addressing the delegates, the National chairman, Mr Yusuf noted that Mr Akinnodi had worked tirelessly for development of the party, hence the decision to offer him the governorship ticket.

The state chairman, Mr Oladejo expressed optimisim that with Mr Akinnodi as the ADP governorship candidate, he was sure that the party would come out victorious in the November 16 election.

In his acceptance speech, the flagbearer, Mr Akinnodi who explained that he was in the race to enhance the development of Ondo state promised to give priority attention to infrastructure, health, transport, education, power and housing sectors.

The ADP governorship candidate who pledged to involve youths in his government if given the opportunity to serve the state appreciated the party for offering him the ticket unopposed.

The Action Democratic Party, ADP gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Mr Akim Yusuf says the Federal Government and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC have to improve on the election management system and security in the next generation election.

Mr Yusuf stated this shortly after casting his vote alongside his wife at Polling Unit 130, Ward 12, Ibadan Southwest Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The finance expert turned politician, who hinged his call on voter apathy, explained that pockets of violence which resulted in the death of some people in the Ibadan metropolis scared electorates from exercising the franchise.

“The turnout was very poor, it’s evident that we have a lot of improvements to do on our election management system and of course the security in terms of political violence, which I can adduce to the voter apathy being experienced. ” Yusuf said.

Mr Yusuf commended the INEC and the crowd control prowess of the security personnel at the polling station and expressed optimism that future elections would witness an upgrade. 

“To the glory of God, it was a very peaceful and orderly environment, the BVAS worked properly, the INEC staffers were very polite and courteous, very good crowd control.” He added.

The Governorship Candidate of Action Democratic Party, ADP, for the 2023 general elections, in Oyo State, Mr. Akim Yusuf, has commiserated with victims of the Thursday evening fire incident in Àpáta area of Ibadan.

He consoled the traders whose shops and goods were razed in the inferno not to be downcast but take solace in God and the potency of his divine power at turning situations around while praying to God to grant them relief for their losses as they pick up strength to restart their businesses and lives.

“Unfortunate accidents like this will occur once in a while, but our faith in our abilities to keep going strong and in the protection of the Almighty must not waiver so that we can bounce back from negative occurrences,” Yusuf stated 

Mr Yusuf, who commended the prompt response of the men of Oyo State Fire Service at quenching the inferno, praised residents of the area for their comportment and calmness, urging motorists plying the axis to be extra careful and adhere to safety precautions to avert a reoccurrence.

Action Democratic Party Governorship Candidate for the 2023 election in Oyo State, Mr. Akim Yusuf says he will declare state of emergency on education sector, if elected as Governor.

Mr. Yusuf stated this while reacting to the recent delist of 50 secondary schools in Oyo State by the West African Examination Council, WAEC over malpractices.

He described the development as embarrassing for the status of the pace setter state which is reputable for recording and hosting first class institutions like the premier University of Ibadan, University College Hospital and International Institute of Tropical Agriculture llTA.

“It is an unfortunate incident that shows the extent of decay in our educational system.We will engage WAEC to get these schools back on board as soon as possible by correcting institution-specific and general challenges.”

Mr. Yusuf, a finance expert, noted that his administration would revisit the regular and continuous measurement of academic standards or performance of students from the Junior Secondary School, JSS1 with a view to identifying individual students’ strengths and weaknesses in a strong guidance & counselling environment to ensure that subject selections were tied to students’ capabilities.

“We will rebuild our education system from scratch by frontally addressing the challenges of dilapidated infrastructure, teaching aid, continuous teacher training and specially incentivising teaching to attract high quality teachers.”

Mr. Yusuf added that his administration would put in place curriculum enrichment measures to expand the intellectual base of the products of various Oyo schools and restore the excellent performance at the external examinations and international competitions.

Action Democratic Party, ADP says it is the credible alternative the nation needs.

The executive members of the party from the 33 Local Government Areas stated this at a pre-flag-off meeting at the Ojoo party Secretariat in Ìbàdàn, they said ADP was a party to beat in the upcoming elections in the state.

 They pointed out that contrary to the insinuation that the party would negotiate to support another political party, it would field credible and popular candidates from the governorship to the state House of Assembly.

The governorship candidate of the party, Akim Yusuf, explained that the ADP is strategically positioned as a credible alternative, coupled with his Ọmọluabi campaign mantra to win the heart of electorates across the 33 Local Government Areas of Oyo State.

Mr. Yusuf, a finance expert, expressed optimism that his people-centred manifestoes would be well embraced and elicit massive support as well as votes from the state. 

Mr Yusuf explained that his development plans would cut across all sectors, most especially the youths, women, small-scale business owners and Artisans.

“We want to run a government based on the principles and elements of good governance. We will give people of Oyo State measurable parameters to assess us when we get there. 

The ruling class have plunged our people into abject poverty, year after year, rate of unemployment is on the increase but we are out to rescue the people of Oyo state and make them self-reliant to enable them to fulfil their obligations “

Earlier in an address, Acting Chairman, ADP, Oyo State Chapter, Alhaji Adesina Ajala, urged leaders and stakeholders in the party to remain resolute and work for the success of the various candidates fielded by the party.

“Our candidate is a reputable and thorough-bred finance expert, he retired as Managing Director in a bank in Gambia. Don’t sell your votes, please, look well, observe very well and vote for the right candidate, Akin Yusuf is the right person and ADP is the right party in Oyo State ”

Oyo state chairman, Action Democratic party, ADP, Apostle Dare Ojo has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the recently passed electoral law by the National Assembly, which makes direct primaries mandatory for political parties.

Apostle Ojo made the appeal while featuring on political space, a Radio Nigeria interview programme.

Apostle Ojo argued that direct primaries was the best for choosing party flagbearers, and if assented, would give every member a sense of belonging in the affairs of their political parties.

He also threw his weight behind the call for restructuring, which according to him, would help the country to achieve accelerated development.

The Oyo state ADP Chairman urged political parties and the National Orientation Agency, NOA, to intensify campaigns on voter education to ensure better participation in the 2023 general election.

Apostle Ojo implored Nigerians to desist from allowing their conscience to be bought over with money, especially during elections.

He also advised the youths to prepare and identify with credible people, who would represent them in government.

The race for the governorship seat of Ondo state is being intensified as political parties jostle to outwit themselves.

The latest in the series was the agreement of thirteen interest groups from political parties in Ondo state to align and form a third force ahead of the October 10, 2020 governorship election.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Akure, the state chairman of Mega Party of Nigeria, MPN, Prince Biyi Poroye admitted that the group had agreed to use the Action Democratic Party, ADP as their adopted party.

Prince Poroye noted that modalities are being worked out to accommodate other interest groups at achieving their purpose of grabbing power ahead of the 2020 election and subsequent ones.

The statement indicated that the ADP had collapsed their structures from state to units’ level to accommodate all parties and interest group in the merger.
