Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says his government will continue with its infrastructural drive, especially in the area of road construction as a catalyst for economic growth and development.

Governor Abiodun spoke at the commissioning of the six-kilometre (first phase) of the Siun-Owode-Ofada Road in the Obafemi Owode Local Government of the state.

Speaking at the event, which was attended by the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulrahman AbdulRasak, Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of road construction in the overall development of the state.

The governor described the newly rehabilitated road as an alternative to the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, adding that it would also impact positively on the socio-economic development of communities along the road.

He said the construction of the road was a testimony to the dedication to strategic and methodical development of infrastructure across the state to enhance the socio-economic landscape as enshrined in the “Building our Future Together” agenda of his administration.

“The road represents a vital link between communities to boost local economies and connect all those coming from Abeokuta to Siun, Owode up to Mowe. This local government is where people work in Lagos but reside and commute daily”.

“The road is an alternative for people from Abeokuta to Lagos. It will significantly impact the socio-economy development of the state,” the governor noted.

He added that the road is the first to be commissioned this year, just as the Mowe-Ofada Road has been completed, adding that his administration would soon commission more roads including the Ilaro-Owode Road and the Gateway International Cargo Airport at Ilisan.

Governor Abiodun listed Obantoko, Gbonogun, Ikorita Meje-Aderinde-Olokotutu, Olomore-Sanni, Somorin- Kemta-Idi-Aba, Panseke-Adigbe as well as the Olusegun Osoba-Toyin-Agbado as some of the roads that have been attended to in Ogun Central Senatorial District, even as he pledged that more roads would be put in good shape soon.

He spoke on why some road projects were delayed, blaming the development on the high price of construction materials.

He said: “We have had a slowdown on construction due to the situation of things in the country in the last few months which has not allowed for objective pricing of construction materials”.

“But for us, construction represents a lot. Besides the fact that road construction allows for the movement of goods, services, and people, the construction industry is the largest employer of labour. So, we will continue to prioritize construction.”

He called on the people to take ownership of the road and other infrastructure provided by the government by protecting them as they were commonwealth and taxes were used in providing them.

In a remark, the Kwara State governor, who is also the Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrasak, praised Governor Abiodun for the infrastructural revolution going on in the state.

According to him, the Abiodun-led administration has judiciously invested in the commonwealth of the people.

Governor Abdulrasak said he has visited other states in the country but was impressed with the level of development in Ogun State.

He called on his colleagues from other parts of the country to take a cue from Ogun State by providing their people with the needed infrastructure to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Shuaib Afolabi Salis, recalled that the road was pencilled down for reconstruction in 2022 and expressed appreciation to the governor, for not abandoning the road like his predecessors.

Senator Salis called on the people to make good use of the road as it belongs to them.

The Ogun State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Yemi Sanusi, described the road as historic to the Egba people because of its interconnectivity with various communities and its importance to the commercial activities of the communities along the road.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Mr Adesina Ogunsola appreciated the state government for reconstructing the road and for providing a 7.5 KVA transformer to Owode to restore power to the town.

In his welcome address, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Ade Akinsanya said the road, which was in bad shape for many years, was reconstructed with a standard drainage system to conform to the federal government’s specification for highways.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, former deputy governors, members of the National and State Assemblies, traditional rulers, and party stalwarts, among others.

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has dragged Governor Ademola Adeleke before a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, for allegedly appointing a card-carrying member of his political party as the Chairman of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC.

An assistant secretary of the party in Osun State, Mr Waheed Adeniran, in an affidavit in support of the originating summons filed by its lawyer, Mr Ayodele Kusamotu, urged the court to set aside the appointment of Mr Hasim Abioye as the OSIEC Chairman.

The suit marked FHC/OS/CS/2/2024 also has the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice as defendants.

Also joined as defendants were, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Attorney General of Osun State and Commissioner for Justice, the Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Hasim Akintunde Abioye and the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC.

The APC contended that “the nomination and appointment of a partisan person as the Chairman of the state electoral body offends law and will not guarantee credible local government elections in which other political parties are expected to participate”.

The leading opposition party in the state further claimed that “the new Chairman, having been a Card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state will not be neutral and impartial in the local government election processes”.

The party sought “a declaration that the 3rd Defendant cannot validly and legally nominate and forward the name of the 7th Defendant as a bonafide member of his registered political party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the 5th and 6th Defendants for screening and confirmation to be appointed by him as the Chairman of the 8th Defendant, Osun State Independent Electoral Commission”.

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining 7th and 8th Defendants or any of their members or agents or officers or any other person or persons acting on their behalf from conducting local government elections into Osun State Local Government Councils, Osun State Local Development Councils, Osun State Local Council Administrative Offices and Osun State Local Council Area Offices until the 7th Defendant is removed from office as the Chairman of the 8th Defendant reconstituted”.

“An order setting aside or nullifying the appointment of the 7th Defendant or removing the 7th Defendant from office as the Chairman of the 8th Defendant”.

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the 2nd Defendant or any of its officers or agents or any person or persons acting on behalf of the 2nd Defendant from releasing lists of voters or registers of voters or any electoral materials or electoral electronic gadgets or devices to 7th and 8th Defendants or any members or any officers of the 8th Defendant for the purpose of conducting local government elections in Osun State until the 7th Defendant is removed as the Chairman of the 8th Defendant and 8th Defendant is properly re-constituted by the appropriate authorities”.

“General damages of (5,000,000.00) five million naira jointly or severally against the 3rd-8th Defendants in favour of the plaintiff. Cost of Action at (2,000,000.00) two million naira jointly or severally against the 3rd-8th Defendants in favour of the plaintiff”.

It would be recalled that opposition parties in the state have been tackling Governor Adeleke since he announced Mr Hasim Abioye as the Chairman of the Osun Independent Electoral Commission.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun State has described the victory of Governor Dapo Abiodun, at the tribunal as a divine mandate.

Ogun State APC chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi in a statement through the Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Tunde Oladunnoye congratulated Governor Abiodun on the victorious judgment delivered by the Ogun State Election Petition Tribunal on Saturday.

Chief Sanusi said the victory at the polls was as a result of the hard work through rigorous campaign across the 20 local government areas of the state, inauguration of various projects as well as the trust the people had in the present administration.

He also commended the governor for assembling the best brains in election tribunal warfare in Nigeria today.

The three-man tribunal, sitting in Abeokuta, chaired by Justice Hamidu Kunaza, had dismissed the petition filed by the PDP and its candidate, Ladi Adebutu, on the grounds of incompetence, vagueness and lack of understanding of the usage of the wordings of the Electoral Act, among others; resulting in inability of the petitioners to prove any of the grounds of the petition.

As the 10th National Assembly is due for inauguration on Tuesday, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State has assured President Bola Tinubu that all its twelve members in both the Red and Green Chambers would not only key into the developmental plans of his administration but also remain loyal, committed and steadfast as they are being positioned to serve in greater capacity.

Oyo APC has all the senators-elect from the three districts of Oyo South, Oyo Central and Oyo North as well as nine out of the 14 members-elect to the House of Representatives as its members.

Five of them are elected as federal lawmakers for the first time while six are returning either for the second or third with the exception of Senator AbdulFatai Buhari who is now set for his third term in the Senate after he had previously spent a term in the Green Chamber between 2003 and 2007.

In a statement issued on Monday and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC boasted of the quality of all its representatives in the 10th Assembly describing them as “men and woman of competence, enviable track record and proven integrity who would are poised to contribute their quota to the growth and development of their father land under the current dispensation and beyond.”

“As a progressive people, we had looked forward to an auspicious period like this when we would have an individual blessed with the combined wisdom and foresight of Chief Obafemi Awolowo as well as the courage and doggedness of Bashorun MKO Abiola to direct the affairs of this great nation. Now that we have a tested and trusted democrat who also understands the dynamics of public administration at the helms of affairs of our dear country, it is imperative we join hands with him and ensure that he does not fail.”

“To this end, we have realized that the legislative arm would play a key role in the task ahead of Tinubu administration and this makes it important for Mr. President to have people of like minds in both Chambers as allied partners. As a matter of fact, President Bola Tinubu would find all Oyo APC members in the National Assembly loyal subordinates and passionate patriots who would always be ready to support his vision and ideas as far as moving the nation forward is concerned.”

“Apart from ’emeritus’ Senator Buhari, we are also having seasoned professionals and committed patriots in Barrister Sarafadeen Alli and Dr. Yunus Akintunde who would be operating from the Senate while other diligent and experienced democrats would be discharging their respective duties from the House of Representatives. These include; Honourable Tajudeen Abisodun Kareem, Honourable Akeem Adeniyi, Honourable Akin Alabi, Honourable Olaide Akinremi, Honourable Tolulope Akande-Shadipe, Honourable Olaide Muhammadah, Honourable Aderemi Oseni, Honourable Olafisoye Akinmoyede and Honourable Olamijuwon Alao-Akala.”

“With the job done by the leadership of the APC in Oyo State in partnership with all the party candidates including, Senator Teslim Folarin, to deliver a total number of 449,884 votes to Senator Bola Tinubu and Senator Kassim Shettima in the last presidential election, we have demonstrated that we shall always identify with the cause of Mr. President and also ensure that he succeeds in everything he does to promote democracy, rule of law and also deliver good governance to the people of Nigeria.” Oyo APC stated.

As relevant stakeholders warm up for this Saturday’s supplementary election in some polling units in two federal constituencies in Oyo State, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has expressed optimism that it would emerge victorious urging the electorate to honour the president-elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by voting its candidates at the poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared April 15, 2023 as the date for the conduct of fresh elections in two polling units in Oluyole Federal Constituency as well as three each in both Ibadan North East and Ibadan South East local government councils which make up another federal constituency following reported infractions which necessitated the inability of INEC to declare winners in the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections.

The leadership of Oyo APC, in a communiqué issued after an extended Executive Committee Members meeting held on Wednesday at the Oke-Ado State Secretariat of the party, reiterated support for Mrs Tolulope Akande-Shadipe and Mr Dapo Lam-Adesina who are seeking to represent Oluyole and Ibadan North East/South East federal constituencies for second term respectively, “because the two candidates remain the best option as representatives of their people at this time”.

“The duo share similar attributes of competence, experience and responsibility, unlike the candidates of the PDP and other parties in the contest. It is in this regard that we are urging voters in the affected polling units to go for the best and reject those who would only go to Abuja to warm the bench. We also urge the electorate to be mindful of the fact that voting the candidates of the APC would further cement the confidence which Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has developed in them as he prepares to start reciprocating the gesture as soon as he is sworn in on May 29”.

In the communiqué, stakeholders also passed a vote of confidence on the Isaac Omodewu-led State Executive Committee, “which delivered the biggest winning votes for the president-elect, delivered the three Senatorial and eight House of Representatives seats”.

“We make bold to eulogize all the leaders, stalwarts and loyalists of our Progressive party for the yeoman’s job which they did before, during and after the general election. We single out the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin, for his rare demonstration of courage and statesmanship as he forged ahead in spite of all odds to make a loud statement as a democrat and dogged fighter”.

“Meanwhile, we kick against the surreptitious moves being made by some unscrupulous political jobbers to twist facts and present themselves as the facilitators of the electoral feat recorded for the APC on February 25 with a view to getting juicy appointments and patronage from the president-elect. Also, we would like to use this medium to announce that the doors of our party are open to people from other political parties to come on board while nobody would be discriminated against whether as a new or returning member.” the communiqué read.

The stakeholders’ meeting was attended by all state executive committee members as well as chairmen, secretaries, women and youth leaders of the party from across the 33 Local Government Councils in the state.

As Tinubu unveils Action Plan

President Muhammadu Buhari will lead Governors, National Working Committee members and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress to the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the party on Friday afternoon at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.

At the event which signals the formal launch of the party’s campaign season, the Presidential Candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate Senator Kashim Shettima will unveil their Action Plan for the transformation of the country.

The 80-page document, containing a multi-sectoral policy options, is tagged “Renewed Hope 2023 – Action Plan for a Better Nigeria.”

According to the document, the former Lagos State governor will prioritise National Security, Economy, Agriculture, Power, Oil and Gas, Transportation and Education, when elected as President Buhari’s successor next February.

Tinubu also outlines policy options for Healthcare, Digital Economy, Women Empowerment, Judicial Reform, Federalism/Decentralisation of Power and Foreign Policy.

He promises huge investment in Sports Entertainment and Culture, Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship, to expand jobs and opportunities for millions of Nigerian youths.

Tinubu also promises to continue and expand the massive Social Investment Programs of the Buhari administration.

In his foreword to the document, Tinubu says that his plans were conceived after travelling the length and breadth of the country and listening to people from different life strata.

Our nation’s history affirms that our people constitute our most valuable treasure. Whether the hardworking farmer, the industrious market woman, the dynamic young entrepreneur or the hopeful child, Nigerian people rank among the best anywhere. They excel in every aspect of human endeavour when given a fair chance.”

Senator Shettima and I have traversed every part of our beloved nation, listening to the concerns of our fellow citizens. Young and old, poor and rich, educated and uneducated, Christian and Muslim; all have expressed their views and concerns. People do not seek superficial answers to hard questions. Nor do they want the broken, unimaginative, failed promises repackaged and fed to them again. They want true and innovative solutions which address the challenging realities of today.”

Our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) was founded on the premise that the people of our beloved country are entitled to the benefits that only progressive good governance can procure.”

According to the APC Presidential candidate, having listened to the yearnings of the people, he is emboldened to change their stories for good the same way he did in Lagos State as governor for eight years while putting together the best team.

When I was governor of Lagos, my team and I developed institutions and policies that changed the face of the state. It became a safe place for its residents and an engine of prosperity for all those willing to work in pursuit of their economic dreams. What my team and I achieved in Lagos, together we all can achieve for Nigeria. Our objective is to foster a new society based on shared prosperity, tolerance, compassion, and the unwavering commitment to treat each citizen with equal respect and due regard.”

Tinubu notes that total transformation of Nigeria can be achieved, building on the foundation laid by the present APC administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

On security which he affirms to be the “bedrock of a prosperous and democratic society”, Tinubu says his administration will make it a fundamental responsibility to protect the lives and property of its citizens by mobilising the country’s national security, military and law enforcement assets to protect all Nigerians from danger and from the fear of danger.

The current government has made important inroads. When it came into office, the Buhari government met situation in which terrorists had planted their flags and claimed Nigerian territory as their own. The Buhari government eliminated these incursions against our national sovereignty, bringing peace to many areas. Thousands of formerly displaced people have returned home to rebuild their lives.”

Recalling meeting a tough security problem when he assumed office as Governor of Lagos State in 1999, Tinubu reveals the herculean task he surmounted.

When I entered office as governor of Lagos, the state was crime-ridden. Safety was uncertain. The population was fearful. With bold, no-nonsense crime prevention reform and creative institution building, we won back our state. It became a safe and secure place to live and to do business. I shall bring the same determined, problem-solving spirit to solving insecurity at the national level.”

Our administration will be committed to permanently securing the safety, freedom and prosperity of all Nigerians.”

To achieve this, Tinubu promises in his Action Plan to further equip the armed forces with more modern hardware and needed technological support.

He also says police will be reformed to fully take responsibility for internal security.

Police reform will be focused on positioning the institution to better deliver on its primary duties of community policing and maintaining law and order through crime fighting and prevention.”

Police personnel will be freed from extraneous duties such as VIP security and guard duties. VIP Security and provision of security for government buildings, installations and other critical assets will be transferred to The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The NSCDC shall be evaluated and reformed to be better integrated with our internal security apparatus.

On the nation’s economy, the APC Presidential Candidate assures Nigerians that his administration will focus on massive and unprecedented 4th industrial revolution, helping the youth to be transformed from job seekers to job providers.

As campaigns ahead of next year’s General elections gather momentum, a political group, Jagaban Vision Movement has called on Nigerians to vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, at all levels.

The group made the call at a press conference held at the Oyo state APC Secretariat, Oke Ado, Ibadan.

Addressing journalists at the conference, the convener of the movement, Prince Adegoke Ademola said APC remained the best choice to restore the lost glory of Nigeria.

Prince Ademola described the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his running, Kashim Shettima as the Patriots Nigeria needed for the progress and development of the country.

He said out of the 2023 presidential candidates, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has the best capacity to deliver considering his antecedents in transforming Lagos State.

“Lagos State is the economic hub of Nigeria, West Africa and Africa in general, as at the time this man came in as governor of Lagos State, it was just about seven million population, today, Lagos is over seventeen in population. So why are people going there, you can’t go to the desert to live”

He said the former Lagos State governor created the framework at which the state operates at the moment.

Prince Ademola was of the opinion that the menace of insecurity could be tackled if forests across the country, which are hideouts of criminals, are well utilized for agriculture and industrial purposes.

He equally disclosed that the group, which is recognized by the national and state offices of the APC as well as the presidential candidate of the party, will inaugurate its executive on Saturday 22nd October 2022.

The Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has dismissed the suit instituted by an All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant Mr Kayode Ojo challenging the legality of the primary election which produced Biodun Oyebanji as the candidate of the party in the June 18, 2022 governorship election in the state.

The court presided over by Justice Babs Kuewumi held that the plaintiff failed to fulfil court processes, stressing that the discrepancies in the originating summons of the plaintiff had rendered the case useless.

The judge further held that the zeal and the signature on the summon were different, while the name of any lawyer was not included to further authenticate the process in total compliance with the court practice direction.

Justice Kuewumi held that the names of counsel on the plaintiff’s originating summons, the statement and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) stamp ran contrary to the law and made the suit incompetent.

Earlier, the judge appreciated all counsels for their cooperation as the matter was expeditiously heard and determined.

Counsel to Kayode Ojo, Mr. Taiwo Ogunmoroti, had earlier urged the court to make the judgment available to him for perusal and possible action.

But counsel to Oyebanji, Mr. Akingbolu, in a chat with reporters expressed satisfaction with the verdict which he said was in line with the law and the rules of the court.
