The strange elephant that reportedly wandered into some areas of Oyo and Kwara states last month is dead.

Our correspondent who has been monitoring development on the elephant reports that a team from the University of Ibadan made efforts to translocate the animal today after sedating it.

One of the sources who pleaded anonymity said the animal, which had remained friendly all along had its legs chained and dragged to a waiting vehicle after sedation.

Details of the exact location and reaction from relevant quarters later as Radio Nigeria Correspondent keeps trying to get official comments from the conservator – General, National Park Service, Dr. Ibrahim Musa Goni.

The elephant had been sighted on Monday,31st of January,
roaming the forest in a boundary community between Oke Ogun in Oyo State and Kwara state

It was sighted by farmers in Gobo who were clearing the land in preparation for the next planting season.

Gobo also shares boundary with Benin Republic.

Villagers there said they had been seeing the elephant around in the last 3 months.

He was the pioneer Provost of the Lagos State College of Primary Education which has just been upgraded to the Lagos State University of Education.

He was aged 74.

He celebrated his birthday in November,2021 amidst pomps and ceremony.

However, today,he is no more.

He is Professor Tunde Samuel, a member of the Governance Advisory Council of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Lagos chapter, and one of the trusted ally and top political strategist of Nigeria’s presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu. 

GAC, is an influential, elite group that determines who occupies positions in Lagos APC politics in the state.

It was gathered that Samuel died on the evening of Wednesday, February 16, 2022, in Lagos during a brief,  illness.

APC, in a statement released by it’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, lamented the sudden loss, saying the deceased will be sorely missed.

“Prof Samuel, an erudite strategist, a focused leader, died when his wealth of experience is most needed in our political firmament. May God grant his soul eternal rest”.the statement read.

Also, a release by Lagos State Executive Council, stated; “Prof. Tunde Samuel, was an experienced Educationists and Administrator, a worthy member of the GAC, former Chairman, Governing Council of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED),

Members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Oyo state chapter condole with the family, players and management of Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan over the demise of the club’s General Manager, Alhaji Rasheed Balogun.

 A condolence statement signed by Chairman, Oyo SWAN, Olaolu Fawole, says the demise of Alhaji Balogun came as a rude shock, as his death came at a time the state needs his services more.

Oyo SWAN describes the deceased as an astute football administrator who knew the round leather game both on and off the field of play.

We pray God to grant his family and the entire sports-loving people of Oyo state the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Exactly twenty-two days after the death of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has joined his ancestors.

He died at 93.

According to source, the Olubadan joined his ancestors early on Sunday morning, January 2, 2022 at the age of 93 at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.

However, when we contacted both UCH and the Popoyemoja, Ibadan Palace of the monarch, we were asked to wait for confirmation.

Said Toye Akinrinlola “we are still not aware but I am already working on it. I will get back to you as soon as possible.”

Our contact at the Palace said “I am not aware. The palace is calm. I cannot confirm to you.”

The Most Superior Evangelist, Celestial Church of Christ,  Agbowo, Ibadan, Daniel Otakoya gave the admonition in Ibadan at the burial service  of a Nigerian lady, Miss Itunu Babalola, at Sango cementery.

Most Superior Evangelist Otakoya explained that since death was inevitable, people should ensure they live accountably before God. 

The cleric described Miss Babalola’s death as a great loss to Nigeria and her family.

During a visit to the deceased family at University of Ibadan, the head of media team Nigerian in diaspora commission, NIDCOM, Mr Rahman Balogun,  representing, the chairman of the commission, Abike Dabiri Arewa, said government had promised to support the family.

Earlier, Father of the deceased, Mr Babalola had expressed his gratitude to NIDCOM for bringing the remains of his daughter to Nigeria, and  pleaded for Government’s support as his late  daughter was the family’s bread winner.

Miss Itunu Babalola died in prison  in Abidjan, Cote D’ivoire where she was allegedly wrongly jailed. 

Miss Babalola died on the 14th of November, 2021 while serving a jail term in C’ote d’Ivoire.

The family of Babalakin has announced the death of a great Nigerian and pious Muslim and retired Justice of the Supreme Court Jusice Tijani Bolarinwa Babalakin  who died this morning  in Lagos  at the ripe age of 94.

Baba was an active member of the Muslim Association Of Nigeria, Ansarudeen society and former president of the Muslim Ummah of South West MUSWEN.

He is survived by many children and grandchildren including Dr Abdurauf Bolanle Babalakin SAN, and a celebrated architect in Lagos Tayo Babalakin, FNIA FNIQS.

Baba would Insha Allah be buried today 4th of December in Gbongan his home town, according to Islamic rites.

The Lagos State government has ordered the indefinite closure of Dowen College, Lekki, pending the outcome of an investigation into the death of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, a student of the school.

Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo announced the closure after a meeting with the school management and staff.

The commissioner called for calm, saying no effort will be spared in getting to the root of the incident.

The boy was alleged to have been beaten to death by some students of the school, who wanted him to join a cult group.

The school authorities, however, denied this, saying he was injured while playing ball.

A relation of the deceased, who said they were cousins took to Twitter to allege that the12-year-old boy died from injuries he sustained after allegedly being beaten by fellow students who wanted him to join a cult by force.

According to @Perrisonoromoni, his cousin mentioned five names before dying.

The Twitter user also alleged that while the school authorities told his uncle that the boy got injured while playing football, the hospital he was taken to confirmed that he was bullied and sustained internal injuries after he was allegedly beaten up.

Five persons were killed in an auto crash in Bauchi State on Wednesday, the Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed on Thursday.

The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Yusuf Abdullahi, said that nine other persons sustained serious injuries in the accident.

He said that the accident occurred in Nabordo community on the Toro-Bauchi Highway when two vehicles had a head-on collision.

Abdullahi said that it took the FRSC barely 26 minutes to arrive at the scene of the crash to clear the site.

He said the registration numbers of the two vehicles were not available, but that they belonged to Gombe Line and Adamawa Sunshine transport companies.

He described the vehicles as a Toyota Hummer Bus and a Toyota Sienna Bus, and attributed the cause of the crash to dangerous driving and speed violations.

Chief Imam of Ogbomoso land , Alhaji Abdul – Yekini Adegboyega Asafa Sanusi  is dead

He died in the early hours of today

Confirming the passage,acting chief Imam of Ogbomoso land,Alhaji Alim Abdul-Wahab described the death of the religious leader as a rude shock.

Aged eighty-seven,the cleric is expected to be buried today at four o’clock in the afternoon.

He is survived by wives and children.

Oyo State Governor Engineer Seyi Makinde has described the death of a former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Chief Busari Adebisi, as a huge loss to the state at this critical time.

General Adetunji Idowu Olurin has passed on at the age of 78.

General Olurin, of the popular Olurin family in Ilaro Yewa in Ogun State, served Nigeria and ECOWAS in many capacities among which are ECOMOG Commander, Military Administrator of Oyo State, Civilian Adminstrator of Ekiti State and Chancellor of Nigeria’s first University of Education, TASUED.

General Olurin was the Commander, 1st Mechanized Brigade, Minna, GOC, 3rd Armoured Division, Jos.

He has also lectured on peacekeeping at the International Peace Academy, the National War College, and United Nations seminars in Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal.

Olurin received many honours including the United Nations Peace Medal and the Knight Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption, KCHOAR. He was also an honourary paramount chief of the Republic of Liberia.

A member of the House of Representatives representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency, Oyo State, Shina Peller has decribed the death of a famous Nigerian artise, Olanrewaju Fasasi aka Sound Sultan, as a painful and great loss to the entire Africa as a continent.

Peller stated this in a statement issued by his media office, Kola Popoola, where the federal legislator said the late artiste, who hailed from his town, Iseyin, was a person with a golden heart.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I mourn the death of my darling brother – a multi-talented artiste, Olanrewaju Fasasi popularly known as Sound Sultan, who passed on Sunday due to a health challenge he had been battling with. Aside the fact that we both hail from the same town, Iseyin, Sound Sultan was someone with a golden heart with high level of humility and integrity; he was a wonderful being.

“I remember Sound Sultan was a panelist at the official unveiling/leadership symposium of Lead Generation Initiative (LGI) held in Abuja on 21st January this year. Interestingly, he spoke very brilliantly and convincingly discussing the topic, “The Future of Leadership: The Role of the Youth,” with other panelists. I remember I told him to come back home to Iseyin and join me in politics in the interest of our people.

“His death remains shocking and a great loss to Iseyin, Oyo State, Nigeria and Africa as a whole. May God forgive his shortcomings and give the loved ones he has left behind the fortitude to bear his loss”.

The family, in a statement, said Sound Sultan died on Sunday of Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma at the age of 44.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the death of former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the end of an era.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kunle Somorin, Governor Abiodun said Senator Ajimobi died when his services were most needed and at a time his wisdom would have made critical difference in statecraft and political engineering. 

While explaining that Senator Ajimobi impacted on both the legislative and executive arms in a manner that history could not forget, Governor Abiodun said the deceased was a respected brand’s manager in the private sector. 

The Governor said Senator Ajimobi was a diligently resourceful Nigerian that would be sorely missed, noting that posterity would accord him due recognition for his legacies of service and forthrightness.

A cross section of residents of Ibadan have described the death of the immediate past governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi as a rude shock to the state.

The respondents who spoke with radio Nigeria said Ajimobi was an icon whose political history would never be forgotten in Oyo State.

One of them, Mr Adedayo Alawode said he was yet to believe that the former governor, fondly called “Constituted Authority” was no more.

In another remark, Mr Femi Fajembola said Ajimobi left the world too early, adding that death did not allow him to enjoy many more years after the stress of governance.

The respondents prayed God to grant the family and entire Oyo state the fortitude to bear irreparable loss.

Oyo State has recorded its first coronavirus-related death.

Governor Seyi Makinde made this known via his Twitter handle, @seyimakinde.

The governor said the patient died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan before the confirmation test for the virus came back positive.

He added that contact tracing has commenced.

Governor Makinde said there are currently five active cases in Oyo State.

He urged people who have come in contact with a COVID-19 case, returnees to Nigeria, those with respiratory symptoms and healthcare workers who have been in contact with the high-risk groups to call the Emergency Operations Centre for the ongoing drive-through/walk-through testing at Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan.

He answered the home call in the early hours of today, Saturday; 18th January, 2020 at a private hospital in Lagos.
Prince Atilade Atoyebi is survived by three children, grand children, his wife; Layide and older brother; Prince David Gbadebo Ladeji; Former Secretary to the Oyo State Government.
The burial arrangement for Prince Atilade Atoyebi who died this morning at the age of 72 will be announced later by the family.
