Communication, leadership, life skills and entrepreneurship formed the basis of a 2day symposium held in Ibadan to raise new generation of quality Nigerian youths.

The programme tagged “Re-emphasize”, a skill for youth personal development training was organized by the Vicar’s band of All Souls’ Church, Bodija Ibadan.

Two of the resources persons who spoke on the importance of healthy living as a dependent to success, Dr Femi Ogunlusi and Dr Aderonke Edun appealed to the youth to avoid high risk behaviours that can cut their lives short.

The medical practitioners said habit such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, drug abuse and reckless lifestyle are injurious to anyone’s aspirations for better future.

Another speaker, a banking and finance expert, Mrs Ololade Adesola advised the participants to develop early financial discipline and planning to avoid dependence in future.

Mrs Adesola while giving out tips on time and financial management, told the participants to diversify investment, prioritize savings and avoid unbudgeted spendings.

” it is not how much you earn, it is how much you keep” she said.

Other speakers at the 2-day intensive workshop are, Former Commissioner in Osun state, Mr Muyiwa Ige, an information scientist, Mrs Adaora Ayoade and a professor of development economics, Adegbemi Onakoya.

Earlier, convener of the programme, a life coach and economist, Mrs Bola Ogunrinade said the aim of the workshop was to equip the younger generation with necessary leadership, intellectual and societal values that would complement their academic qualifications.

“We are sowing a seed and God helping us, the seed will germinate for the use of this programme and we intend to follow up. When you sow a seed and you don’t follow up, there are chances that the seeds will not be fruitful the way you like”.

Mrs Ogunrinade said the initiative was also to encourage the youths to make informed decisions in their life endeavour.

Nigerians as leaders in various capacities have been urged to strive towards making positive impacts on everyone in their circle and promote values for national development.

The President, Ogun Baptist Conference, Dr Oyewale Oyeniyi made the call in Abeokuta at a special birthday reception organised to celebrate Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s 84th birthday.

Dr Oyeniyi who said the event was put together to celebrate Chief Obasanjo who had contributed immensely towards building the peaceful and united Nigeria called on the people to emulate the patriotic disposition of the former president.

The President, Ogun Baptist Conference also advised Nigerians to adhere strictly to all the precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19 and urged relevant authorities to give priority to efforts at strengthening the nation.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo applauded the Baptist Conference for honouring him, and encouraged Christians to consider taking more leadership roles in the country, through their active involvement in politics.

The former President while sharing his experience in office, attributed the successes recorded to the huge contributions of positive-minded people around him including family, community and religious institutions.
