Governor Seyi Makinde has promised to renovate the entire Oyo State Government House building including its Church and Mosque and other structures on the premises in the coming year.

This is just as the governor promised to pay civil servants in the state a 13th-month salary before the new year.

The governor gave these assurances while speaking at the 2023 Christmas Carol Service with the theme “Unto Us A Child Is Born” held at the Remembrance Arcade, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

Not only that, the entire Government House will be rebuilt.”

Governor Makinde, who sympathizes with the plights of the masses on the current economic conditions occasioned by the removal of the petrol subsidy and the dollarisation of the economy, however, expressed optimism that the challenges would fizzle out with the year 2023.

”  It  has been a challenging period for us as a country, the high price of fuel and also the floating of the dollar has adversely affected the country’s economy

“This time will come and go, the tough people will wade through, all the economic challenges we are facing, by the power of God, will go with this year. The year 2024 will be a new beginning and indeed, a happy and prosperous year”, he said

Against the backdrop of his administration’s determination to expand the economy of Oyo State through solid mineral development, Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has called on traditional rulers in Oke-Ogun to collaborate with the government in its effort to protect the mining communities.

The governor stated this during the coronation and presentation of staff of office to the 30th Aseyin of Iseyinland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola held at the Iseyin District Grammar School, Iseyin.

Governor Makinde, who stressed that the current regime in mining within the state must change so that host communities and the state can derive value from mineral resources, said: “A few weeks ago, I signed the Executive Order No 1 of 2023 and it deals with protecting the mining communities. The Kabiyesi and community leaders used to sign documents for the miners but this has to change.

“The Order is to protect the mining communities and ensure that the miners give to the communities and the state what is due to us. Right now, our resources are being carted away with nothing coming back to us and the Order will stop that.”

He equally appreciated the people of Iseyin for their massive support during the March 18, 2023 general election, just as he commended the people of Iseyin for their support in making the College of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources, a campus of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, located in their domain, a reality.

He thereafter named the entrance road into the campus “Aseyin Road.”

Speaking on how the emergence of the new Aseyin was smooth and seamless, the governor hailed the kingmakers in the community for being good custodians of tradition, stating that they upheld the tradition and did not allow themselves to be influenced.

“I am happy to be here for the coronation of the 30th Aseyin of Iseyinland. 30 is a unique number. Today is a happy day for us and the gathering is a victory for the sons and daughters of Iseyinland as well as our traditional system.

“The new Aseyin never came to me; he did not lobby me before he was appointed, and I did not hear that the kingmakers collected money to back him for the throne.

.The governor equally noted that there are several areas of economic focus around Iseyin, including the Ikere Gorge Dam, to which, according to him, the state government will construct an access road to facilitate investors’ interest in the power generation setup in the axis.

Making his first official speech after receiving the staff and instrument of office, the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Oyebola, thanked the governor, declaring that it was a new dawn in Iseyin.

He noted that his rulership would hinge on three cardinal points of peace, unity and prosperity, saying: “I wish to express my readiness to make the best use of this opportunity to serve not only my subjects but the generality of our people in Oke-Ogun as a whole.”

Earlier the Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters,  Olusegun Olayiwola, charged the new Aseyin of Iseyin to be alive to his traditional responsibilities, while also urging the people of Iseyin to support and cooperate with the Oyo State Government to deliver on its Roadmap for Sustainable Development.

Labour

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has directed civil servants to resume to their duty posts on Monday, as his government would pay the two months deductions owed the workers with their August salary, while it would also explore further options on dialogue.

In a state-wide broadcast, Governor Makinde said his government remained open to parleying with labour to ensure that the rights of the workers of Oyo State are protected.

He encouraged the union leaders to return to the negotiating table to discuss any increases in salary or possible harmonisation of pension payments.

It would be recalled that Oyo state workers in the last five days had embarked on protest over non -remitance of deductions from salaries.

Speaking on the protest and blockage of entry points into the Secretariat, the governor stated that his government has been one of the states that are favourably committed to workers’ welfare since he assumed office in 2019.

“We have paid all civil servants’ salaries and pensions on or before the 25th of every month without fail. And since January 2020, we have paid the minimum wage and consequential adjustments to all cadres of civil servants every month without fail.

“Presently, the civil servants’ wage bill stands at N7.2 billion monthly. We have continued to pay this despite having a state revenue of just below N10 billion monthly. It is, therefore, clear to understand why any increase in salaries or pensions may not be possible at this time.

Governor Makinde however, announced that apart from the payment of the cooperatives deduction to be effected and paid with August salaries, the government would increase the number of buses made available for civil servants to commute to and from work from 9 to 12, so that more routes are covered to lessen the transportation burden of workers.

He further stated that the government would pay the health insurance premium for all pensioners under the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) scheme and that any pensioner who already made payment would be refunded.

The governor equally stated that the government would resume the monthly payment of gratuities to pensioners so as to continue to clear the backlog of gratuity payments inherited by our administration.

Wife of the former Governor of Oyo State, Dr (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi has denied any offer of commissioner slots from Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a statement reacting to an online publication on behalf of Mrs Ajimobi, former Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, Bolaji Tunji said there was no time that such overture was made to Mrs Ajimobi.

“This news is strange to us. We can state categorically that at no time was such an offer discussed.

Mrs Ajimobi holds the Governor in high regards. He has continued to exhibit good leadership traits while playing the politics of a unifier with the aim of bringing peace to the State, however the report about Commissionership slots overture could only be attributed to mischief makers.”

The statement also puts the record straight on the role of Mrs Ajimobi during the general election.

“ Mrs Ajimobi who was the Oyo State Coordinator of the Oyo State Tinubu/Shettima (OTISHE)Women Presidential Campaign Organisation worked for the victory of the presidential candidate of the party.

During the period, she engaged various stakeholders in the state – such as the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria ( CAN), Trade Associations, Market Men and Women, Moslem Women groups, youths and students bodies among others in the build up to the election.

To her joy, her modest contribution led to an overwhelming victory for President Bola Tinubu with Oyo State having the highest votes in the South West States of Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo.”.

She enjoined the mischief makers to desist from propaganda aimed at further tearing the party apart.

“She is committed more than before to the unity of party and she has put all the targeted attack on her during the electioneering period behind her while enjoining all the stakeholders to continue to look for the peace and stability of the party”.

She promised to work more with other stakeholders to achieve a lasting peace in the State
