The National Examinations Council, on Tuesday, disclosed that 93 schools were found to be involved in whole-school (mass) cheating while 52 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting during the 2023 Internal Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.

Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, disclosed this while announcing the release of the results of the examination.

Wushishi said the erring schools would be invited to the council for discussion after which appropriate sanctions would be applied.

He said 1,196,985 candidates, representing 616,398 males and 580,587 females, sat the examinations, adding that 1,543 candidates with special needs also sat the examinations.

Wushishi said, “The number of candidates with Special Needs is 1,542, which includes 913 candidates with hearing impairment, 162 candidates with visual impairment, 103 candidates with albinism, 61 candidates with autism, 149 candidates with low vision, and 154 candidates with adermatoglyphic, which are candidates with no fingerprints.“737,308 candidates, representing 61.60 per cent, passed with five credits and above, 1,013,611, representing 84.68 per cent of candidates, had five credits, irrespective of English and Mathematics.”

Speaking further on the erring schools, the NECO boss said, “In line with our resolve to identify and sanction erring schools and supervisors, 93 schools were found to have been involved in whole-school (mass) cheating. They will be invited to the council for discussion, after which appropriate sanctions will be applied.

“Similarly, 52 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting during the examination. “At this juncture, ladies and gentlemen, I wish to formally declare that the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination Internal results are hereby released to the public. By this release, candidates can now access their results on NECO website: www.neco.gov.ng, using their examination registration numbers.”

The National Examinations Council (NECO) on Tuesday released the results of the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Speaking at a press conference in Minna, the Niger state capital, NECO Registrar, Datani Wushishi, a professor, described this year’s result as the best in recent times.

Mr Wushishi said 737,308 candidates representing 61.60 per cent got at least a credit in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

The previous year, he said, 60 per cent of the candidates recorded a similar feat.

“It gladdens my heart to notify you that reports we have received so far indicate that the 2023 SSCE Internal has been certified the best in recent times,” he said.

“We are very thankful to God for this and to all those who made it possible.”

Mr Wushishi said this year’s results were released exactly 58 days after the last paper was written.

“The 2023 examination was conducted from Monday 10th July to Friday 11th August 2023. The marking exercise started on Wednesday 30th August and ended on Friday 15th September. This means that this year, we are releasing our results 58 days after the last written paper. This is as a result of our desire to ensure that we release the complete results, rather than in batches.”

The NECO Registrar noted that a total of 1.2 million (1,205,888) students registered for the 2023 examinations. He said 621,084 of the total figure are male while the remaining 585,804 are female.

He said 1,196,985 candidates eventually sat the examinations with 616,398 males and 580,587 females.

He added that the number of candidates with five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics, is 1 million (1,013,611), representing 84.68 per cent.

The registrar gave the breakdown of the number of candidates with special needs as 1,542.

He said 913 candidates had hearing impairment, 162 candidates with visual impairment, 103 candidates with Albinism, 61 candidates with Autism, 149 candidates with low vision, 154 candidates with Adermatoglyphia,

On malpractice, the registrar said, a total of 12,030 candidates representing 0.07 per cent of the total number of candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice during the school-based examination. He said this is down from 13,595 (0.13 per cent) last year.

Meanwhile, the release of the result by NECO may have opened a new door of opportunity for admission seekers into tertiary institutions across the country.

SSCE result is one of the requirements for gaining admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions apart from the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The National Examinations Council on Thursday announced the release of the result of the November/December 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination.

The Registrar of NECO, Prof Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, made the announcement in Minna, Niger state.

According to the NECO boss, a total of 59,124 candidates sat for the examination, with 31,316 males, representing 52.96 per cent while 27,808, representing 47.03 per cent were female.

Wushishi added that the number of candidates that sat for English Language is 58,012 out of which 44,162, representing 76.13 per cent got Credit and above, while the number of candidates that sat for Mathematics is 57,700, out of which 43,096, representing 74.69 per cent got Credit and above.

He further disclosed that the number of Candidates who got five Credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics is 33,914 representing 57.36 per cent.

“Also 46,825 candidates, representing 79.20% got five Credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics,” he said.

Speaking on the issue of examination malpractice, he said, “11,419 candidates were booked for various forms of malpractice is , as against 4,454 in 2021, which shows a sharp rise in the number of malpractice cases”.

According to him, this is largely due to the improvement in the strategy and technique adopted by the monitoring officers.

“This led to the blacklisting of four supervisors, one each from Rivers and Plateau States and two from Ogun State for aiding and abetting as well as poor supervision,” he said.

The 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination, External was conducted by NECO from 21 November to 21 December 2022 and is being released 57 days today after.

Speaking further on the examination, Wushishi said, a total of 29 subjects were examined as was done in 2021.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of 2022 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination(SSCE).

It blacklisted 29 supervisors for alleged involvement in various malpractice offences during the just concluded examination.

NECO Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, who announced the results on Thursday at the NECO Headquarters in Minna, said four schools were recommended for de-recognition for two years due to their involvement in mass cheating during the exercise.

National Examination Council, NECO, continues with the students taking the Yoruba Language as first paper.

During a visit to Urban Day Senior Secondary School, Loyola College, Old Ife Road, Oba Akinbiyi High School 2 and Community Grammar School Mokola, students were Observed writing objectives aspect of the subject under the supervision of invigilators.

In an interview with  Radio Nigeria, the principal of Urban Day Grammar School, Mrs Adeniran Nurat and Vice-principal  of Community Grammar School Mokola, Mrs Adeniran affirmed that the examination was held smoothly 

Also, the principal of Ọba Akinbiyi Grammar School 2 Mokola, Mrs Folashade Ayodele expressed satisfaction that necessary measures had been put in place by government to ensure students excelled in their examinations.

The 2022 NECO Examination continues on Monday with Physics Practical and Government.

The National Examinations Council on Sunday announced that it has “extended the Registration period of the 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination for school-based candidates to midnight of Monday 20th June 2022”.

The examination agency made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in the early hours of Monday.

The registration period was initially scheduled to close on Monday 30th May 2022.

“State Ministries of Education, Principals, Commandants, and all stakeholders are enjoined to note that there would be no further extension after that.

“The 2022 NECO Senior School Certificate Examination will commence on 27th June 2022, and end on Friday 12th August 2022.

As both Public and Private schools in Oyo State resumed for second term academic work today, all schools in Ibarapa also complied.

Despite the heavy blowing of harmattan, students were seen as early as 6.00 am trekking or joining Commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okada to their various schools.

In Nawair Deen School 1, Ajegunle Igboora pupil’s attendance was very few but all the teachers were met at their duty post.

A teacher Supervisor, Mrs Adewuyi Kosenat who came to check the teacher’s punctuality said the condition of the weather might have affected the pupil’s attendance.

In Igboora Grammar School, students and teachers were met on assembly ground with an encouraging population.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria Correspondent, the Principal of the school, Mr Oyewole Olusola said both the teachers and students were ready for teaching and learning as there was an impressive turn out of students.

A senior student of the school, Miss Salaudeen Amirat said the students were ready to cooperate with the teachers in view of the WAEC and NECO examinations fast approaching.

Similarly, All public and private schools in Ogun state, resumed for the second term of the 2021/2022 academic session with a call on parents and guardians to be more vigilant and alive to their responsibility.

Some parents, who spoke with Radio Nigeria in Abeokuta, noted that the call became imperative as the country is faced with insecurity challenges.

Mrs Olapeju Adewuyi and Mrs Helen Egunjobi who expressed happiness over the resumption said necessary academic materials had been provided for the children.  

 A school owner, Mrs Adeola Ogdugbesan said all is set for the take-off of the new academic term noting that all Covid-19 measures had been put in place to curb the spread of the disease among the students.

She advised students to take their academic work seriously, so as to excel.

In the same vein, academic activities commenced in both public and private schools in the Ibadan metropolis.

Radio Nigeria correspondent who monitored the situation reports that pupils were in their school premises cleaning and making preparations for the beginning of the new term.

It was observed that oba Akinbiyi high school Mokola Ibadan and Jericho high school Idi-Ishin witnessed the high turnout of students and teachers into the school premises.

Some teachers at the Jericho high school explained that they were ready for the second term academic activities.

 it would be recalled that the schools vacated for the yuletide on the 17th of December last year.

The Nigerian Government has stopped students in Senior Secondary School 1 and 2 from participating in external West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The students are also banned from taking the National Examination Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).

The development was contained in a circular issued to principals of federal Unity Schools by the Federal Ministry of Education.

The circular was signed by the ministry’s Director, Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, and confirmed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Ben Bem Goong, on Friday.

The circular read, “The ministry’s attention has been drawn to the flagrant disregard to its directive on (the) writing of external examinations such as NABTEB (NTC and NBC), WASSCE, NECO (SSCE) by SS1 and SS2 students.

“Students who are involved in the practice find it difficult to settle down on serious studies. They become unruly and distract other students from achieving their goals.

“Any student caught to have written any of the above examinations in SS1 or SS2 classes will be expelled from the college”.

“All students must write these examinations after they have been duly registered for the examination by the college”.

“All students of Federal Unity College should adhere strictly to the content of this circular. And Principals are advised to bring the content of this circular to the knowledge of all parents of the college.”

Oyo State Government will continue to give priority to education by ensuring schools are adequately staffed and monitored.

Chairman, Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, Oyo State, Pastor Akinade Alamu stated this in ibadan an interview with Radio Nigeria.

Pastor Alamu explained that recent recruitment of teachers was an indication of the purposeful agenda of the government to give education a pride of place in Oyo State.

The TESCOM boss said further that the Commission had maintained its oversight of personnel in secondary schools across the state, and had also put measures in place to check truancy among students through the constitution of schools board and collaboration with parents associations.

Pastor Alamu added that the steps taken by TESCOM was yielding fruits going by performance of students in the state in examinations conducted by West African Senior School Certificate, WASSCE and National Examination Council, NECO.

Director Human Resources of the National Examination Council, NECO, Abdul Mustapha, has confirmed on Tuesday morning to reporters that NECO registrar, Professor Godswill Obioma has died in his sleep as a result of heart failure.
According to a statement by the family, the NECO boss died of a brief illness.
The statement was signed by Godswill Obioma the second and addressed to the Council’s Director of Human Resources.
It says the family will give details to the Council and members of the public. Confirm by Apexreporters magazine and online news.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination for External Candidates.

Announcing the results at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna on Thursday, the Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Godswill Obioma disclosed that a total of 41,459 candidates registered for the examination, out of which 39,503 actually sat.

Professor Obioma explained that a total of 26,277 candidates obtained five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics while 34,014 candidates also obtained five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

The Registrar, who reiterated the Council’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice, noted that appropriate standards and excellence were maintained right from the planning stage to the release of results.

Professor Obioma disclosed that 6,465 cases of examination malpractice were recorded in the 2020 SSCE External as against 17,004 cases in 2019.

He noted that the reduction in the level of malpractice was as a result of deepened monitoring of the examination by members of the Governing Board, Management and Senior Staff of the Council.

Professor Obioma further disclosed that the results of 256,000 candidates who missed some papers during the 2020 SSCE (Internal) due to the ENDSARS Protests in some states and who sat for those papers during the 2020 SSCE (External) are being released alongside those of external candidates and stressed that the examination was at no extra cost to the affected candidates.

The Registrar stated that the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) for admission of JSS 1 students into Federal Unity Colleges is scheduled for Saturday 29th May, 2021 and Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal is scheduled from Monday 5th July to Monday 16th August, 2021.

He also noted that Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is scheduled for Monday 23rd August to Monday 6th September, 2021 in order to enable students at that level cover enough subject matter for the examination.

National Examination Council, NECO, has announced the result of candidates that sat for 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE.

 Reacting to the development the principal, Ibadan Boys High School, Dr. Rasheed Fasasi, during an interview with Radio Nigeria, said his school was yet to receive the details of the candidates’ results.

Also, some candidate in Ibadan, who sat for the examination, explained that they were aware of the results and planned to go to their school to check their performance.

 It could be recalled that candidates sat for the National Examination Council, NECO, last year.

The Ondo State government has threatened to temporarily close down secondary schools that fail to adhere strictly to the protocols against COVID-19 as SS3 students resumed for the preparations of WAEC and NECO Examinations.

Radio Nigeria correspondent who monitored resumption of students in Akure the state capital reports that many secondary schools observed all preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19.

Students were seen wearing face masks while hand washing buckets with liquid soaps were placed at strategic places in schools that have also been fumigated.

Infrared thermometers were also used at the entrance of the gates while classes were arranged to follow social distancing protocol.

Addressing newsmen during a tour, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr Akin Asaniyan who expressed satisfaction with what he saw on ground, said some schools were yet to fully comply with the guidelines for resumption.

Mr Asaniyan said monitoring team would be going round the state to inspect and close down schools that fail to comply until they do the needful. 

Some teachers of secondary schools as well as the Senior Secondary Schools 3 students who spoke with Radio Nigeria expressed readiness and preparedness ahead of WAEC and NECO exams, promising to make the state proud when results are released.
