Forty-seven officers of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and enforcement Corps, TRACE, have become incapacitated in the course of official duties.

The TRACE Corps Commander, Mr Seni Ogunyemi who made this known at the Annual Commander Conference in Abeokuta said the corps has a shortage of manpower and appealed for recruitment of more officers.

According to Commander Ogunyemi the remaining six hundred and twenty personnel of the corps are being overstretched, noting that the work force needed to be increased to one thousand five hundred before next year.

He explained that the number of officers that have become incapacitated in the course of their duties have made it necessary to engage more hands in the traffic management in the state.

The commander hinted that the corps was planning to change its headquarters from the present location to the Model School at Onijanganjangan which will also serve as the TRACE Training Academy.

Special Adviser to the Ogun State governor on Security, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr Ṣọla Subair in a remark called for random capacity building for officers of the corps.

Mr. Subair also called for the deployment of Technology for traffic management on the corridor of the state.

The Ogun State Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun while speaking said the conference was timely to look into the challenges facing the corps and the prospects.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Transportation, Mr Daisi Elemide assured the gathering that the Assembly would be readily available to assist the corps to have its manpower increased in line with the dictate of its duties.

The theme of the fifth Annual TRACE Corps Commander’s conference and the fifteenth-anniversary lecture was “Emerging issues in Road safety and traffic management: Challenges and Prospects”.

Ogun State Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Otun wants all hands to be on deck to enable the education sector to navigate the post-COVID-19 era in the state.

Alhaja Selimot Otun made this known in Abeokuta while declaring open a day training for the stakeholders in the Ogun State technical and vocational education.

Alhaja Otun represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service, Mr. Dahunsi Okeleye explained that all the sectors of the economy must ensure training and retraining of the workers for better management of resources in the post Corona work environment. 

The Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Technical Education, Professor Joseph Odemuyiwa in a remark explained that efforts are in top gear to ensure that all schools are vocational and technical oriented in Ogun State.

Lecture on realities and responsibilities of Educational Administration in Managing Unforeseen Situation was delivered by retired permanent secretary, Chief Ayoade Koleade; that of Polytechnic Administration and Human Capital Development was delivered by the former Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Dr. Raheem Oloyo.

The theme of the one day summit was ‘Post COVID-19 Management of the Education Sector for Effective Human Capital Development’.

Workers in Ogun state are to receive the thirty thousand five hundred naira minimum wage with effect from the first of January, 2020.

This followed the Memorandum of Understanding signed by representatives of the organized labour comprising Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and The Trade Union Congress, TUC, while the Ogun State Head of Service, Mrs. Amope Chokor led the state government’s delegation.

They also agreed on the consequential adjustments of twenty-seven per cent for Grade Level Seven, Grade Level Eight, twenty per cent, Grade Level Ten, nineteen per cent, Level Ten to Fourteen, fifteen per cent and level Fifteen to Seventeen, fourteen per cent.

After signing the MOU, the Ogun State Head of Service, Mrs. Amope Chokor commended the organized labour for their support and thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun for the good gesture which would enhance worker’s productivity in their service delivery to the people of the state.

Also, the Chairman, Joint Negotiating Council, Mr. Olanrewaju Folorunsho who spoke on behalf of organized labour, appreciated workers for their patience during the negotiation and charged them to reciprocate the gesture by working hard to bring more wealth to the state.

On his part, the state NLC chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Bankole said the agreement was signed in the interest of the workers.
