Member, House of Representatives Tolulope Akande-Sadipe and the Federal Controller of Works, Ogun State, Engr. Umar Bakare have expressed disappointment at the poor quality of work done by contractor handling Olomi-Ijebu road. 

The House of Representatives member, has therefore tasked the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) on the rehabilitation of federal roads across Oluyole Federal Constituency. 

Akande-Sadipe said that if rehabilitated, the controversial 25km Olomi-Ijebu Igbo road and 35km stretch of Liberty Academy road which connects Oyo State with neighbouring Ogun state, would stimulate economic activities, attract local and foreign investment, improve the quality of road network and reduce the hardship on her constituents. 

The Oluyole Federal Constituency Representative at the Green Chamber made the remarks when she embarked on a joint inspection of the roads with officials from the Federal Government establishments and the affected communities. 

Akande-Sadipe, who lamented the untold hardship commuters along the 25 km Olomi-Ijebu Igbo Road face on account of its present deplorable condition, also expressed displeasure at the present state of Liberty-Academy Road within her constituency. 

She urged the Federal Ministry of Works to prevail on the construction company on the Olomi Road project, to perform their obligation on the road in the interest of the people of the state. 

She said: “We have gone round and you have seen the Olomi road. It is deplorable and completely unacceptable.

The design is flawed, it has been more of a death trap and has led to several deaths and Loss of property. 

“How can a bridge on this kind of expanse of road not be a dual carriageway”, she queried 

“I appreciate the fact that the Ministry under the leadership of Hon. Minister. Raji Fashola honoured our request for succour for Oluyole, as our road between Olomi and Ijebu Ode is extremely bad. The Contractor, has done a very poor job and has been too slow after so many years, with many portions of the road un-motorable”, she said. 

“The officers of the Ministry should please ensure that the funds allocated are well spent and a satisfactory job delivered.” 

Akande-Sadipe who chairs the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs also lamented that other roads within the State contracted out the same time three years ago have been completed.

The Family of the late football star, Muda Lawal wants the federal and Ogun State governments to complete a building project embarked upon by the late footballer before his demise 30 years ago as part of efforts to immortalize the soccer icon. 

They made the appeal when receiving a posthumous award presented to Muda Lawal by the Nigeria Football Supporters Club during a remembrance programme held at the Abeokuta burial site of the football ambassador.

A foremost traditional ruler in Ogun state, Eselu of Iselu, Oba Ebenezer Akinyemi has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to assist South Eastern part of the country to produce the next president of the country.

Oba Akinyemi while addressing newsmen in Abeokuta said the appeal was for equity and justice noting that he was not prompted to make the appeal.

The traditional ruler advised President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on his supporters to see to the emergence of a Nigerian of Igbo extraction as the president of the country come 2023.

Oba Akinyemi also pleaded with Nigerians to forgive the people of the south East over the civil war which he noted was still being held against the Igbo people. 

The traditional ruler who described illegal possession of arms in the name of self determination by some individuals as unacceptable urged every Nigerian to work harmoniously for the development of the country.

Oba Akinyemi also advised people of Ogun state to allow indigene of Ogun west zone to become governor of the state having been denied since the creation of the state.

Ogun State is to benefit from ten thousand housing units from the Federal government as part of efforts to improve the living standard of people in the state.


Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who made this known while inaugurating the first phase of the Kemta Idi-Aba Housing Estate, said the gesture would complement his administration’s efforts to reduce housing deficit in the state.


Governor Abiodun also gave the assurance that the second phase of the housing project would be completed in few weeks and expressed optimism that 2,500 housing units would be completed before the end of his tenure.


The Governor also pointed out that the access road through Kemta-Ilugun-Somorin, which would serve as a bypass to Asero- Obantoko road would be completed within eight months.


Earlier, the State Commissioner for housing Mr Jagunmolu Omoniyi had commended Governor Abiodun for the project, adding that his ministry adopted direct labour in executing the housing project as part of efforts to create jobs for the youths in the state.

Two bills including the one seeking to alter the nomenclature of the Tai Solarin College of Education to the Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology, Omu-Ajose Law, 2021 and the fiscal responsibility commission Amendment law,2021 have been passed at the Ogun State house of Assembly.

The Sikiru Adetona college of Education Science and Technology bill was targeted at addressing the identity challenge being faced by the college of education in accessing intervention funds, and positioning the institution for better academic performance.

Also, the bill on Fiscal responsibility commission would ensure prudent management of the State’s resources, thereby achieving greater accountability and transparency in fiscal operations.

The passage of the bills followed the separate presentations of the reports of the Committee on Education, Science and Technology by the Chairman, Mr. Adeyemi Ademuyiwa, and his Finance and Appropriation counterpart, Mr Kunle Sobukanla.

Responding, Speaker Oluomo, directed that the clean copies of the bills be forwarded to the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assent.

Residents of flood prone and wetland areas across Ogun State have been advised to temporarily make provision for safe environments to avoid severe impact of flooding in the areas.

The Special Adviser to the Ogun state Governor on Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya gave the advice in Abeokuta in a statement issued on the flood threats across the country.

The special adviser listed flood prone communities to be affected by flood in Abeokuta to imclude Gbangba, Ijaye, Ijeun Tuntun, Isale-Oja, and Kuto. 

Other listed communities prone to flood in Abeokuta include Amolaso, Ijeja, Adedotun, Ago-Ika, Enugada, Totoro, Onikoko and Adigbe.

The statement also listed other floor prone communities in ogun state to include Ofada, Magboroas well as Owa River Course and Yemule River Course in Ijebu Ode among others.

The government also advised Farmers around the wetlands and river banks across the state to complete their harvesting on time to avert loss of their livestock and crops to flooding.

Mr. Ola Oresanya also urged pedestrian and motorists to be cautious on the road while walking and driving to avoid accidents as the roads will witness high volume of storm water that will subside within minutes.

Ogun State Government has promised to support federal government’s efforts to ensure that the proposed Regional Development Plan for Southwest Geo Political Zone of the country becomes a reality.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Tunji Odunlami gave the assurance while receiving Federal Government’s delegation led by the Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Mr David Akinola in Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta.
 Mr Odunlami who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Yetunde Dina, said the proposed plan would bring about harmonious development to the region.
Describing the proposed Regional Developmental Plan as a welcome Initiative, Mr Odunlami said the idea would also enhance the physical planning of southwest Nigeria.
Responding, the Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Mr David Akinola restated federal government’s committed to achieving a sustainable Regional development plan for the Southwest, especially Ogun Statedue to its borders with States in the region.

Mr Akinola who explained that the proposed project would fashion out a developmental plan for the six States in the region, said project was expected to be delivered in six months.

Ogun state police command has arrested three armed robbery suspects after their involvement in a ghastly motor accident, while escaping with a Toyota Camry car snatched at gunpoint in Ondo state.

 According to a statement by the Command Spokesman, Mr. Abímbólá Oyeyemi, the suspects were heading towards Lagos when the accident occurred due to dangerous driving at Ode Remo area of Ogun. 

The spokesman said the three robbery suspects sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to hospital by the policemen from Ode Remo divisional headquarters. 

He stated that it was while the suspects where been treated that the  Divisional Police Officer of  Ode Remo, Mr. Fasogbon Olayemi received information that the vehicle was snatched at gunpoint and subsequently placed them under arrest in the hospital. 

Mr. Oyeyemi said the owner of the vehicle had shown up from Ondo state and explained howy the gang of five men in police uniform dragged him out of the car at gunpoint and drove away the vehicle.

He concluded that the Ogun state commissioner of Police, Mr. Edward Ajogun has ordered the transfer of the remaining suspects to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department after the death of one of the three while receiving treatments at the hospital.

The government of Ogun State wants motorists passing through the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway to cooperate with road safety agencies and other security officials working to restore normal flow of traffic on the expressway after the fire incident that claimed lives and property at Ogere axis of the road. 

Two persons reportedly died in the inferno sparked by a tanker, loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, and 13 other vehicles were razed.

The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele who led a government’s delegation to inspect the scene of tanker explosion extended condolences to those affected by the incident and appealed to the road users to be patient.

She explained that the contractor handling the road construction had been mandated to provide alternative ways of diverting traffic to address the gridlock and commended the Federal Fire Service and other rescue agencies for their prompt response to prevent further loss of lives and property.

The Deputy Governor also announced that the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs had been directed to act as the incident commander to co-ordinate all agencies towards promoting the safety of lives and property while ensuring speedy evacuation of the debris to traffic movement.

Ogun State House of Assembly has passed the State Judiciary Funds Management Law, 2021, with three other bills scaling first reading.

The three bills are the Ogun state fiscal responsibility commission amendment law, 2021, the Sikiru Adetona College of Education, science and technology, Omu-Ajose law 2021 and Obas and Chiefs, council of Obas and traditional Council law of Ogun State, 2021.

The bill was passed following the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation by its Chairman, Mr OlaKunle Sobunkanla at a session presided over by the Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo.

It was later read and adopted clause-by-clause by the lawmakers, after which the motion for the third reading was moved by the Majority Leader, Mr Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by Mr Solomon Osho and accepted by all lawmakers through a voice vote. 

Responding, the Speaker, Mr Oluomo directed that the clean copy of  the bill be transmitted to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assent.

Clashes between rival cult groups in Ijebu-Ode has reportedly claimed the lives of a policeman and one other person.

The violent clash was reported around Igbeba, Lagos garage and other areas of the town.
Residents were said to have scampered for safety as the cultists unleashed terror with dangerous weapons on themselves.

The clash was linked to leadership tussle among the cult members.
Cult clashes have been a recurring issue around Ijebu-Ode township and its environs in recent times.

It was reported that the attempts to bring the situation under control led to the death of the policeman attached to Igbeba Area Command.
Reaction of the Ogun State Police Command to the incident is still being awaited.

The 2021 Computer Based Test of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has commenced in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The examination which was monitored in some CBT centres across Abeokuta including the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ojere, Magbon, South West Resource Center both at Oke Mosan and at Navy Secondary School, Onikoko Abeokuta, revealed that the candidates comported themselves in line with the expectations of the examination body as no issue was reported at those centres.

JAMB officials were on hand at the centres including security personnel.

Some of the some parents were also seen around the examination center waiting for their children.

Activities have resumed at the Ogun state house of Assembly following the suspension of industrial action embarked upon by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria. 
The members had joined their counterparts across the state of the federation to embark on strike over the non- implementation of financial autonomy for state legislatures as enshrined in the Constitution. 

In a communique signed by the National president  of the union,Mr Mohammed  Usman said the action was suspended to facilitate the passage of necessary legislations as contained in the  memorandum of action,noting that the action was only suspended for just 45 days.

Speaking on the development,State chairman  of PASAN, Mr. James Obanla  said the suspension was to give  room for further negotiations towards the smooth take off of the autonomy. 

The National Executive Council of the Union declared an industrial action on Tuesday, 22nd March directing all its State chapters to boycott official activities until the implementation of the Executive Order 10 signed by President Muhammadu Buhari last year.

A policeman has been reportedly killed by gunmen during the abduction of four railway workers at Alaagba village in Odeda local government of Ogun state.

The abducted workers are said to be staff of the Chinese company handling the Lagos-Ibadan standard guage railway project.

The Baale of Alaagba village, a border village between Oyo and Ogun state, Chief Adekunle Olabamiji, confirmed the incident while speaking to newsmen on phone.

He said, the  gunmen killed the police escort while struggling to abduct the four Chinese workers.

A youth leader at Alaagba village, Mr. Azeez Adila also confirm the incident noting that the village youths made attempt to rescue the expatriates from the abductors which was not successful.

The Ogun state police command reaction on the incident is being awaited as at time of filing the report.

Nine people have been presumed dead while two persons sustained injury in a tanker explosion around odo seje,  Owode in Yewa South local government area of Ogun state.
The Spokesman of Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi who confirmed the statement in Abeokuta said the accident involved a truck loaded with PMS, a bus conveying eggs and four motorcycles.
Mr Akinbiyi explained that the loaded tanker detached from it’s tractor while descending Odo Seje slope from Owode, the bus was coming from Ajilete with other motorcycles ram into truck leading to fire explosion.
He said the victims of the incident had been released to their families for burial while the case had been handed over to Owode Divisional Police Station for further investigation.
While commiserating with the families of the victims, Mr Akinbiyi advised motorists especially tanker drivers  to always carry out adequate maintenance of their vehicles and give consideration to other road users.

People of Ogun State turned out in large numbers to celebrate Democracy Day in Abeokuta, the state capital with Governor Dapo Abiodun restating that Nigerians could achieve more together rather than clamouring for the division of the country. 

Governor Abiodun while addressing the gathering at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, urged Nigerians to be united and embrace the symbolism of June 12.

Governor Abiodun who pointed out that June 12 Democracy Day would continue to strengthen the unity, indivisibility and oneness of Nigeria, expressed optimism that the nation would fulfill its potential among the comity of nations.

The governor also urged people of the state to go out en masse and exercise their civic duty during the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

While giving the assurance that the election would be free and fair, Governor Abiodun said his administration was committed to strengthening democratic principles and providing good governance.

In a remark, the speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, OGHA, Mr Olakunle Oluomo noted that the late Chief MKO Abiola focused on poverty eradication during his lifetime, and urged government at all levels to continue to embark on programmes that would alleviate poverty in the country.

Ogun State government has distributed 60 vehicles, 200 bullet proof vests and 20 helmets to security agencies as part of efforts to improve security architecture in the state.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Arcade ground, Oke Mosan Abeokuta, the  Inspector General of police Mr Usman Baba said that the vehicles and equipment would enhance operational efficiency of security agencies in the state.


While commending Ogun State government for putting in place Security Trust Fund to support security operations in the state, Mr Baba urged other state governments  to emulate the gesture.
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who  announced that his administration had  procured six armored vehicles, said water cannons and other anti riot equipment would be procured.
The  Governor who urged men and officers of all security agencies to utilize the  security equipment for improved security, said this would encourage public and private sectors to support the security agencies.
While maintaining that there was a need for significant increase in enrolment of community policing, Governor Abiodun  urged residents of the state to continue to cooperate and collaborate with  security agencies towards sustaining peace and security in the State.

Pensioners in Ogun state have described as unacceptable, the plan by the state government to spread the quarterly payment of outstanding gratuities of members over the next thirty four years. 
The Chairman, Local government Pensioners Association of Nigeria, Ogun state Chapter, Chief Sikiru Ayilara stated this while addressing journalists during a peaceful protest to the Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, Governor’s office. 
According to reports, the pensioners were denied entrance to the state Secretariat by security operatives.
The protest attracted pensioners from the twenty local government areas of Ogun state who marched out carrying placards with various inscriptions like ” Governor Dapo Abiodun, stop sending our members to early graves due to starvation “, ”  Governor Dapo Abiodun follow the governors of Ondo, Oyo, Borno and Lagos states to improve the welfare of pensioners in Ogun state “
Addressing journalists, the chairman, Local government Pensioners Association of Nigeria, Ogun state Chapter, Chief Sikiru Ayilara said the protests had become necessary following the failure of government to accede to their prayers after several correspondences to the necessary quarters. 
Chief Ayilara who noted that the sum of five thousand naira minimum pension paid monthly in the state was insufficient with the economic realities in the state advised the present administration to commence the immediate implementation of thirty three point four percent of pensions designed in 2014.
Chief Ayilara listed other demands of the pensioners to include the resuscitation of the suspended bureau of local government pensions committee in line with federal and state laws.
Other pensioners who spoke with Radio Nigeria described the government’s poor attitude to pensioners welfare as unfortunate.
Addressing the pensioners, the Secretary to State government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi explained that though the debt was inherited by the present administration, the government would continue to find the means to address their demands.
Representatives of both the government and the pensioners had gone into a closed door meeting with a view to working out a better arrangement to resolve the issues.

Minister of Transportation Mr Rotimi Amaechi has inspected the level of work at the new Abeokuta Train Station in Ogun State, giving the assurance that arrangements has been concluded for the project’s inauguration by President Mohammadu Buhari.
Mr Amaechi was accompanied by the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun during the inspection of facilities at the train terminal at Laderin  Estate Abeokuta.
While explaining that the Ministry would also increase the number of trains on Lagos Ibadan rail track, Mr Amaechi said that the federal government was committed to improving the transportation system in the country.
In a remark, Ogun State Governor, prince Dapo Abiodun who explained that the  project was in tandem  with his administration’s Transportation Master Plan, said that issues bordering on security and access road to the train terminal would be given priority.
Governor Abiodun promised that a  committee would be set up in collaboration with the federal ministry of Transportation to work out the modalities to further enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the train service.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says his administration will continue to embark on programmes and polices that will give  children opportunity  to optimally realize their creative and productive potential.
Governor Abiodun who gave the assurance at this year’s Children’s Day Celebration, held at  MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta,  also said his administration had mapped out a blueprint that would improve  Socio-Economic development of all demographic groups across the state.
While pointing out that  his administration had  rehabilitated over 700 schools, Governor Abiodun said his administration would continue to provide conducive learning  environment for  children in the state.
He also promised that his administration would  provide the needed support for the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian affairs, disaster management and Social development in its school feeding programme  for public schools in the state.
The Governor who also awarded scholarship to Precious Oyibo a  student of Nawardeen Grammar School Obatonko Abeokuta who recited a poem during the Celebration, said that his administration would continue to support brilliant students in the state.

The Ogun State Government  in collaboration with Development Partners in the health sector has commenced the administration of the second dose Covid 19 vaccination in line with the guidelines from National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, to residents that have taken the first dose in designated facilities across the State.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker who confirmed this in Abeokuta said the exercise which began this week would be held through 5th July for all residents and clients that had received the first dose with a minimum of  six weeks interval and above between the first and second dose.


Dr Coker advised residents to present their vaccination cards at Health facilities where they got the first dose to receive the second dose. 
She encouraged the residents of the state to take advantage of the exercise to get their second dose vaccination and be protected against the Covid 19 virus.

Ogun State Government has launched the State Civil Justice Transformation Lab Draft Strategy as part of efforts to improve effective dispute resolution and justice administration in the state.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Obas complex Oke-Mosan Abeokuta, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun explained that the Strategy, when implemented would give the government opportunity to identify justice needs of the people and provide innovative strategies to resolve them.

Governor Abiodun pointed out that a people centered approach to justice administration would facilitate equal access to justice for all the residents of the state.

In a remark, the Chief Judge of Ogun state, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu pointed out that the Judiciary was committed to ensuring quick dispensation of justice.

Justice Dipeolu also implored the Executive arm of government to find solution to the agitations of the members of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, which led to the ongoing nationwide strike.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said that anyone found guilty of selling adulterated gas products or violating safety protocols in the state would face the full wrath of the law. 

Governor Abiodun gave the warning while reacting to incessant gas explosions in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

The Governor explained that he had directed law enforcement agencies, environmental and safety personnel to move round all the nooks and crannies of the state to investigate and bring to book those found culpable of any sharp practice or negligence that could cause gas explosions.

Governor Abiodun said his administration was working with Federal authorities and relevant agencies towards finding lasting solution to the recent incidents, adding that no stone would be left unturned to curb recurrence.

While commiserating  with the families of the victims of the recent gas explosions, the Governor warned business owners against violating safety protocols guiding the location of their businesses in residential areas.

Another gas explosion in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital has killed two persons at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.

The explosion which occurred at the Marque event centre of the library was reported to have occurred  while technicians were fixing a faulty Air Condition at the event centre.

According to a witness, a staff at the hotel within the library, the two electricians died on the spot.

As at the time of filing this report, the two gates leading into OOPL have been shut .

 Spokesman of the Former President Olusegun Obasanjo when contacted on phone said the management of the premises was on top of the situation.

About six persons including an infant, had reportedly been killed in three different gas explosions in Abeokuta in the last two weeks.

Czech Republic has donated medical equipment worth one hundred and ninety four million naira to Ogun state government.

While handing over the equipment to the state Governor , Prince Dapo Abiodun in Oke Mosan Abeokuta, the Czech Republic Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Marek Skolil,  said

Czech Republic would continue to support and partner the state government particularly in the area of health development.

Mr Skolil, announced that the Czech government would build an Intensive Care Unit , ICU, center in Ogun state, adding that the ICU would further enhance effective health care service delivery.

In a remark, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun commended the Czech Republic for donating the ICU Unit beds, incubator, children cribs, a generator and a phototherapy machine to the state government.

Governor Abiodun, who called on Czech government to continue to  partner the state government  in the area of air surveillance, said his administration since  its inception had removed all forms of  bottlenecks, through business friendly policies.
