Osun State House of Assembly has again expressed disappointment on the State of Iwo / Ibadan road project handled by Peculiar Ultimate Concern LTD.

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Works and Transport, Mr Waheed Abiola stated this when the committee paid an assessment visit to the road project starting point in ” Dele Yes Sir ” Osogbo which terminates in Iwo town, Osun / Oyo Boundary.

Mr. Abiola who expressed disappointment that the contractor was not working in line with the stipulated time frame of the project, as promised two months ago when the committee visited the site.

Mr. Abiola stressed that, based on its assessment the committee would report back to the Assembly whereby the next line of action would be determined in due course.

In separate remarks, other members of the committee said the excuses of the Peculiar Ultimate Concern Limited was not tenable considering the huge amount of money allotted to it at the commencement of the project.

Earlier in his reaction, the Project Manager, Peculiar Ultimate Concern Limited, Mr. Lekan Adeleke attributed the delay in completing the project to weather, Electricity and the Peculiar soil structure of the road.

The Osun State House of Assembly committee on works and Transport also visited an ongoing state government road project handled by Monsulat Construction Integrated Company in Hallelujah Estate where the Manager, Mr. Omodunbi Temitope was urged to show more commitment to executing the job in no distance time, with the assurance that the state government would give the contractor required support.

Other members of the Committee including, Member Representing Obokun, Prince Adeyemi Adewumi, Member Representing Ilesa East, Mr. Oladiran Olatunbosun, member representing Ife South, Mr. Lawrence Adeoti and member Representing Ife Central, Mr. Abiola Awoyeye.

The Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, Prince Adewale Egbedun has pledged the commitment of the Assembly to improve the healthcare system of the state. 

Prince Egbedun gave the assurance while receiving the Advocacy and Sensitization Team for Human Papillomavirus Vaccine, HPV, in his office at the Assembly Complex, Osogbo.

The team was led by the Director of Medical Service and Disease Control of the State Primary Healthcare Board, Doctor Oluyemi Ogundun.

In her remarks, Doctor Ogundun said the team came to the House of Assembly to solicit for their support as representatives of the people across the state towards embracing the HPV vaccination exercise aimed to protect girls aged 9-14 years against cervical cancer, slated to commence on 24th of this month in communities, schools and health facilities.

Also, in the course of the sensitization lecture, the State Health Promotion Officer of Osun State Primary Health Care Board, Mrs. Adeniyi Taiwo said the Humanpapilloma virus can infect many parts of the body of both men and women.

In his response, the Speaker of the House, Prince Adewale Egbedun who appreciated the team for their commitment towards eradicating cervical cancer in the State expressed the readiness of the Assembly to champion the campaign for the vaccine, its advocacy and vaccination exercise.

The sensitisation lecture, which took place at the Parliamentary Hall of the House of Assembly, had the principal officers and other members in attendance.

Also in the advocacy and sensitisation team are Mr. Solomon Israel Olakanmi (UNICEF VSL for Osun State), Mr Olantunji A. Ogunsemide (Clinton Health Access Initiative TA on HPVVI in Osun State), Mrs. Adeleke Rebecca Odunola (NPHCDA Osun State Coordinator) and Mrs. Grace Omolola Adeniyi (UNICEF Adolescent Health HPVV Consultant).

The Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, wants the Ministry of Land, Physical Planning and Urban Development on monitoring and supervision of construction sites in the state.

The Chairman, House Committee on Land, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Lawrence Adeoti gave the advice in a remark during a meeting with officials of relevant MDAs in the state.

Mr. Adeoti emphasized the need for all the MDAs in the state to hold inter-agencies meeting for proper growth of the state.

He advised the ministry to supervise and monitor the ongoing building construction sites for better development of the state.

Mr Adeoti who noted that Public Private Partnership with different housing estates would to fast track development stressed the need to improve on internal generated revenue, IGR of the State.

In their separate contributions, other members of the committee advised to MDAs to ensure layout criteria for building construction approval across the state.

Earlier in a remark, the Commissioner for Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. George Alabi pledged the commitment of the ministry to improving on its activities and services for the state.

Mr. Alabi also assured the committee that his MDAs would not relent on their efforts to supervise and monitor the building construction sites in the state.

Officials present during the meeting included; those from the Ministry of Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Osun Property Development Corporation, Osun Capital Development Agency, Office of the Surveyor General and Osun Assets Management Agency.

Osun State House of Assembly says all hands must be on deck to resuscitate Sports activities in the State to improve its Economy.

The Chairman House Committee on Youth, Sports and Special Needs, Mr. Abiola Awoyeye stated this during an oversight visit of the Committee to Osogbo Sports Stadium.

Mr. Awoyeye who expressed disappointment about the state of the Osogbo Sports Stadium noted that it was an indication that Sport development was neglected by past Administrations of the State.

He lauded Governor Ademola Adeleke who during his ten months in office had sponsored Osun United amongst other policies aimed to improve Sports activities in the State.

The Lawmaker who assured residents of the State of the Government’s resolve to further improve the Sector, urged the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Osun Cares and the Ministry of Sports and Special Needs to ensure effective synergy with the Committee to collectively attain the 5-point Agenda of the Governor.

During a visit to the State Ministry of Youth, Mr. Awoyeye explained that the committee had gone through the report submitted by the Ministry and promised to act on it in due course.

Corroborating his view, Member Representing Ifedayo State Constituency, Prince Kasope Abolarin stressed the need for all to ensure things were done in line with the policy of Governor Ademola Adeleke .

Earlier in a remark, the State Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Mr. Olalekan Olagunju noted that lots of programmes are in the pipeline for Youths and appealed for improved Budgetary Allocation for the Ministry.

The Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Prince Adewale Egbedun has reiterated the commitment of the Legislative Arm to support policies of the State Government aimed towards making life better for Residents.

Prince Egbedun gave the assurance while presiding over its plenary held at the Assembly Complex, Osogbo.

He called on the Legislators to continue to uphold Standards and remain devoted to the Primary motive of the Assembly.

Under matters of Urgent Public Importance, a member representing, Irepodun/Orolu , Prince Adekunle Oladimeji appreciated The Governor of the State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Deputy Governor and other Stakeholders for swift intervention in Ifon / Ilobu communal crisis.

Prince Adekunle who noted that though the 24-hour curfew is still in progress expressed the hope that the situation would be permanently resolved to enable residents of these communities to resume their normal day-to-day activities.

However, the Osun State Estate Agency Regulatory Authority Bill 2023 and Osun State Skating Restriction Bill 2023 scaled through the Second Reading.

The Majority leader of the House, Mr. Babajide Kofoworola while presenting the policy thrust of  Osun State Estate Agency Regulatory Authority Bill 2023, noted that the bill would regulate the activities of the estate agents in the State, enable the members to renew their membership amongst others benefits.

Also, a member representing, Oriade State Constituency, Mr. Kanmi Ajibola during the policy thrust of the Osun State Skating Restriction Bill 2023, noted that the skaters had caused several road accidents in the State and the nation at large therefore, the Bill when passed into Law would stop the activities of skaters on the major roads.

Some Lawmakers in separate contributions described skating as a good sport practice and stressed the need for the Government to construct skating routes to prevent Road mishaps.

Meanwhile, Osun State Anti-Corruption Agency Establishment Bill 2023 passed through the first reading while Osun State House of Assembly Service Commission Establishment Amendment no 3 bill was discussed intensively during the Committee of Whole during plenary.

Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, wants the management of Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, OSBC, to intensify more on revenue generation.

The Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Prince Adekunle Oladimeji made the call during the visit of the Committee to Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment and the State Broadcasting Station, Osogbo.

Prince Oladimeji explained that, with the facilities put in place by the State Government, the Station needed to put all mercenaries in motion to boost and sustain its revenue in the best interest of the State.

While emphasizing that one of key roles of the Legislators roles is oversight functions, The Chairman House Committee on Media and Public Affairs said Government Facilities were not Charity Homes hence the need to properly utilize its facilities and Institutions efficiently.

Prince Oladimeji appreciated the workers of the Broadcasting Corporation and the State Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment supporting the Commissioner, Olumo Kolapo Alimi.

Earlier in his remarks at the Ministry , the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi appreciated the Committee for doing the needful and performing their vital role of oversight functions.

Also in a remark, The Chairman Board ,OSBC, Mr. Mayowa Oloso noted that power outrage had been the problem of the corporation and retierated his Commitments towards giving the Station better facelift as well as to improve on Internal generated revenue.

In her words, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment, Mrs Modupe Irelewuyi solicited government intervention on modern day equipments for the ministry.

Also, the Permanent Secretary of OSBC, Mr. Rasheed Folaranmi commended the State Government for the procurement of some equipments and the lawmakers for their kind gesture towards the corporation.

The places visited including; ministry news room, editing suite, photo units, binding room and government printing press, OSBC recording studio, editing suite, transmitter radio and television house, generator /power house amongst others.

Osun State House of Assembly has promised to support Governor Ademola Adeleke agenda’s on education sector.

The Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Education, Mr. Sikiru Bajepade gave the assurance during a meeting with officials of Osun Education District at House of Assembly Osogbo.

Mr. Bajepade described education as bedrock of nations’ development ,hence the need to support plans and policies of the present administration aimed at boosting the educational system of the state.

While calling on Stakeholders in the state to place the sector on the right path in the interest of the future generation, the Chairman, House Committee on Education emphasized the need for the district officers to relate with various area offices in local government areas.

In separate contributions, the other members of the Committee noted that the just concluded education summit would resolved some issues and challenges in education sector and commended the district officers on their efforts to improve education sector in the state.

In their contributions, the Chairman of TESCOM, Mr. Temitope Mustapha and the Executive Secretary of the TESCOM, Mrs Fabusuyi Oluwafunke wanted government to return the functions of TESCOM.

Mr. Temitope Mustapha commended the efforts of the present Tutor General in the state.

Also the Executive Secretary of the TESCOM Mrs Fabusuyi Oluwafunke noted that since establishment on TESCOM in 1993, it was saddled with appointment, promotion, discipline and transfer of post secondary schools teachers in the state.

They lamented the problems facing the commission and urged the committee to intervene.

Osun State House of Assembly has emphasized the need public media stations to improve its mode of operations.

The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Adekunle Oladimeji made the call during its maiden meeting with the Management team from Osun State Broadcasting Corporation , OSBC, at the Assembly Complex, Osogbo. 

Mr. Oladimeji explained that government owned media outfit was expected to set the pace amidst of other media outlets in the state, hence the need to exhibit efficiency with the available resources. 

While stressing the importance for all to contribute their quota to the development of the State and the Nation at Large, Mr. Oladimeji task the media to embrace balance, effective and efficient journalistic practice. 

Also his contributions, member representing Olorunda State Constituency, Mr. Olaide Ajibola expressed the readiness of the Committee to cooperate with the station to achieve a remarkable face lift.

Mr. Ajibola urged the station to promote local sports activities which would go a long way in identifying and promoting indigenous young sport talents. 

In his words, the Permanent Secretary, OSBC, Alhaji AbdulRasheed Folaranmi highlighted the challenges hindering smooth running of the station to the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

Alhaji Folaranmi appreciated the House for the opportunity and reiterated OSBC’s commitment towards promoting the State Government’s Programmes and Polices.

Osun Road Maintenance Agency Establishment Bill 2023 has scaled through the Second Reading, after the legislators presented it’s policy thrust. 

The lawmakers called for the accelerated passage of the Bill which would help upgrade Transportation system in the State, aid easy maintenance of Truck “B” roads, Rehabilitation of dilapidated Roads amongst other benefits of the Bill. 

The Majority leader of the House, Mr. Kofoworola Adewunmi and Member representing,Ola – Oluwa, Mr. Afeez Ibrahim moved that Bill scales through its second reading during plenary presided by The Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun. 

Also, the Chairman, Osun State House of Assembly Committee on Public Works and Transport, Mr. Abiola Ibrahim disclosed to the house that the State Ministry of Works would find a temporary solution to the end point of Ikirun – Insha Road, which had been leading to road accidents. 

Recalled that member representing Ifelodun State Constituency, Mr. Akinlolu Adeyemi raised the issue of the road during the recent plenaries of the House. 

However, Osun State Lottery and Gaming Activities Bill 2023 sponsored by The Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun and Osun State Tertiary Institution Staff Retirement Age Amendment Bill 2023 sponsored by member Representing Ila, Mr. Sikiru Bajepade, were mentioned at the floor of the House.

The Osun State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension placed on the consultant handling the staff audit of workers in the employ of the State Government, Sally Tibbot Consulting.

This was made known to Newsmen by Mr. Olamide Tiamiyu ,The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker,OSHA, Prince Adewale Egbedun.

Prince Egbedun noted that the decision of the House followed the resolution of the minor differences between the labour and the consultant.

He said the House look forward to a seamless exercise going forward while demanding strict adherence to rules of engagement and professionalism from the consultant.

The Speaker urged civil servants to give total cooperation for the exercise, stressing that the exercise is not a witch-hunt or targeted at anyone but to free the service of ghost workers and enhance efficiency.

Prince Adewale reiterated the resolve of the House to continue to make meaningful interventions in state affairs, vowing to deploy its oversight functions in making sure that Osun people get benefits for resources.

The Chairman House committee on Health at the Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, Prince Kasope Abolarin wants stakeholders in the Health sectors across the state to prioritise effective service delivery.

Prince Abolarin made the call during interactive sessions in different segments comprising all health parastatals in the state which included the Ministry of Health, Hospitals Management Board, HMB and Osun Health Insurance Scheme, OHIS held at the parliamentary section of the Assembly.

He stressed that the aim of the meeting was not to probe or witch-hunt but rather dwelt extensively on observing critically the challenges facing the Health sector and to work out ways to improve the sectors in the state.

In a remark, Commissioner for Health, Barrister Isiaka Adekunle represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Doctor Isiaka Adekunle who explained that the first assignment by the present administration was Imole Free Medical and Surgical Outreach which would be in three phases noted that the second round is on.

Doctor Adekunle stressed that the medical outreach first phase involved medical interventions for some minor ailments, the second which is ongoing involves medical treatment of some common diseases: malaria, cough, diabetes and other related diseases while the third phase would involve optical interventions which have to do with eyes.

He also explained that other activities done by the ministry in the last nine months included Mass Net Campaign, Flag off for the World Breastfeeding week among others.

The State Commissioner for Health stressed that the ministry which comprises of seven departments does not have adequate manpower leading to additional burden on the personnel.

In another development, the committee also held meeting with stakeholders of the Hospitals Management Board.

In his brief, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Doctor Abayomi Oni explained that the main function of the Hospitals Management Board is to execute general health policies approved by government through its secondary health facility.

Also in his submission, The Executive Secretary, Osun Health Insurance Scheme, OHIS, Doctor Adeniyi Oginni stated that the agency was established by law with the objective of working towards ensuring quality Health care is accessible to the Residents at affordable rates.

In separate remarks, the Deputy Chairman of the committee, Mr.Olawale Akerele, Mr. Folorunsho Ogundare, Mr. Abiola Ibrahim and Mr. Oderinwale Elisha pleaded for transparency from Stakeholders in the health sector and ensure they furnish the committee with relevant information.

Osun State House of Assembly says Ilegal Mining Prohibition Bill 2023 will put an end to environmental hazards in the State.

This was the remark of the lawmakers during the Policy Thrust of Osun State Illegal Mining Prohibition Bill 2023 during the plenary of the State House of Assembly.

They noted that the bill if passed into law would protect the environment at large

The Lawmaker Stressed that the Bill seeks to establish a task force to curb illegal mining whereby culprits are fined for engaging in illegal operations. 

In his remarks, The Speaker of the Parliament, Prince Adewale Egbedun urged the lawmakers to do more investigative research on the proposed bill.

However, under matters of urgent public importance to the House, the Chief Whip who doubles as the lawmaker representing llesa West State Constituency, Mr. Olawale Akerele brought to the notice of the House the deplorable condition of major roads in his constituency.

Mr. Akerele explained that the condition of Oke- Ese, Odo-Ere, Araromi and Atakumosa roads are in bad condition for business activities. 

He called for government urgent intervention to ease the suffering of the people.

In his remark, the Speaker of the Parliament urged the various heads of the Committee to work together with their members to achieve positive results.

He called on lawmakers to embrace the principle of teamwork to fast-track the socio- Economic development of the State.

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Prince Adewale Egbedun has assured stakeholders that the 8th Assembly is ready to cooperate with other arms of government to actualize the developmental agenda of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Prince Egbedun gave the assurance in a goodwill message delivered during the ongoing strategic retreat and onboarding program for new political office holders and key stakeholders of the State, organised by the State Government.

The Speaker who emphasized that the 8th Assembly under his leadership had laid a solid foundation aimed to actualize the agenda of the Governor noted that laws that would ease governance and make the State attractive to investor.

He mentioned some of the bills including; the Osun State Local Content Bill, the Osun State Community Social Responsibility Bill, Osun Illegal Mining Prohibition Bill, Osun State Disability Protection Bill, amongst others.

Prince Egbedun added that at aside from lawmaking, the State House of Assembly would efficiently discharge its oversight duties to ensure the proper implementation of government policies.

The retreat which is ongoing in Ede, Osun State, will climax on Wednesday.

Osun State Anthem Crest and Flag Bill 2023 have been passed into Law. 

The Speaker, of Osun State House of Assembly, Prince Adewale Egbedun who presided over the Plenary said it would be sent to Governor Ademola Adeleke of the state, for assent. 

Prince Egbedun explained that the new law is re-enacting the spirit and character of the repealed State of Osun Anthem, Crest, and Flag Law 2012, with vital amendments which reflect the evolving identity and aspirations of the State.

The Speaker said that the new law retains the Osun Anthem which shall be rendered at all public functions in the State, alongside the National Anthem.

Prince Egbedun stressed that the title “State of Osun” has been reversed to Osun State, while the new law adopts the Nigerian National Flag and Coat of Arms as the sole flag and crest to be utilized during public events across the State.

Earlier, The Deputy Speaker and Chairman Of The 7- Man Adhoc Committee, Prince Akinyode Oyewusi presented the Report of its Preliminary Screening for the Commissioner Nominees held last week on the floor of the House. 

Responding to the report of the 7 Man -Adhoc Committee which screened the Commissioner nominee, The Speaker Commended the committee for its timely report stressing that the exercise marked a significant milestone in their Legislative Functions. 

Prince Egbedun also lauded the committee for its keen sense of responsibility displayed during the preliminary screening exercise. 

He urged the Commissioner nominees to ensure they impact positively the development of the State. 

Meanwhile, Thirteen out of the Commissioner nominees appeared for further screening today before the whole House has been confirmed.

The Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, Mr. Timothy Owoeye, has congratulated Muslims across the state and Nigeria over the successful completion of Ramadan.

Mr. Owoeye in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Kunle Alabi urged them to continue with the significance of the Holy month which teaches them to practice self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less privileged in society. 

He urged Muslims and Nigerians to use the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr to pray for peace and prosperity in the country.

Mr. Owoeye emphasized the need for Nigerians to sustain the peace, progress, and stability of the state and nation to pave way for another phase of the transition of power from one president to another.

The speaker said, “Having observed strictly the injunctions of Almighty Allah through fasting and prayers and by offering Zakat, the lessons learned during the period should not be lost, rather they should be part of the daily lives of the true Muslim in his dealings with fellow Muslims and people of other faith”.

“Let us remain strong in our hope that Nigeria will become what we fervently pray for it to be positively, a nation that fills its citizens with happiness and pride”.

“Every true Muslim feels the joy of the month by participating in the Ramadan fast, which is a key obligation in Islam. May Almighty Allah, therefore, reward us for the spiritual exercise and grant our wishes for families and dear country”.

Osun State House of Assembly has passed Osun State University Teaching Hospital and Osun 2022 into law.

The two bills were passed during the Plenary of the House of Assembly in Osogbo.

The Osun State University Teaching Hospital was passed with the motion moved by the Majority leader of the House, Honourable Maroof Olanrewaju and seconded by Honourable Israel Oyekunle representing Ejigbo State Constituency respectively.

The Osun State Examination Board Establishment bill 2022 was also passed into law with the motion moved by the Majority leader of the House Honourable Maroof Olanrewaju and seconded by Honorable Festus Babatunde Komolafe representing Atakumosa East/West.

The Speaker of the Parliament, Right Honorable Timothy Owoeye in his remarks noted that the bill would make provision for health care services for the people of the state.

He also said that the bill would make provisions for research and other medical services related so easy.

He confirmed that as from now on Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital will no more be referred to as LAUTECH again but should be referred to as UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

In similar view, the Speaker also said that Osun State Examination Board is to conduct examinations for primary 6, Junior School 3 and other internal examinations in public schools within the state.

He also announced that the State College of Health Technology Ilesa would now be under the supervision of State ministry of Education not under ministry of health.

Earlier, Right Honorable Timothy Owoeye commended the lawmakers for their tolerance during the period of 2023 budget defence exercise.

He gave kudos to all Sub-Committee and Committee on Finance and Appropriation for their unrelenting efforts towards the success of defence exercise.

The state House of Assembly then adopted the report of the House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation on 2023 proposed estimate, while the 2023 budget bill scaled through second reading at the plenary.

On other hand, the Speaker congratulated Governor Gboyega Oyetola on the commissioning of Olaiya Fly-over Bridge in Osogbo.

He noted that the fly-over bridge has been the link to major roads in Osogbo metropolis.

The Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, Mr Timothy Owoeye has commiserated with the Afuye family and the people of Ekiti over the sudden death of the Speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly, EKHA, Mr Funminiyi Afuye.

Mr Owoeye in a condolence message described the death of the speaker as sudden and shocking as he showed no sign of any ailment.

Mr Afuye who represents the Ikere Constituency 1, reportedly died on Wednesday around 6 pm at the age of 66, after a very brief illness.

Mr Owoeye who explained that he is still in a state of shock and is still finding it very hard to believe that Mr Afuye is no more said a better part of him had left with the sudden demise of a pillar of support in the call to quality representation of the people.

He said, “This event is so unexpected and shocking because he was full of life and activity in the last few days”. 

“I am aware that my friend and close colleague was at the swearing-in ceremony of the new governor of Ekiti, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on Sunday. I am also abreast of the fact that he accompanied the governor to inspect some roads in Ado-Ekiti recently.”

“This indeed is a very sad moment, I share in this grief with the Governor of Ekiti and the State House of Assembly. My heartfelt condolence goes to the entire Afuye family.”

“On behalf of myself, the government and the good people of Osun,  I offer our heartfelt condolences to Governor at this moment of trial.”

“I pray Almighty God to bestow on the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and May our good Lord grant the late Funminiyi eternal rest”, the OSHA speaker added.

Osun State of House of Assembly has launched its  E-Parliament platform.

The Speaker of the House, Mr. Timothy Owoeye launched the E- Parliament at the House of Assembly Complex Osogbo.

Mr. Owoeye noted that e-Parliament is a proper standard for this global era.

He said that e- Parliament platform would make it easy to get access to global world in shortest time and stressed that the launching of e-parliament in the State House of Assembly would enhance trust in legislative duties.

In their various Goodwill messages, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Matters Hon. Kamil Oyedele and Commissioner for ICT in Osun Dr. Babatunde Olawale noted that the project was in accordance with global era.

Osun State House of Assembly has approved section 121 of a bill for an Act to alter the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,1999 to provide for the financial Independence of State Houses of Assembly and State Judiciary. 

The Assembly at plenary also rejected two bills out of the 44 bills received from the National Assembly on the Fifth alteration to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.

The two section rejected by the Assembly are sections 26 and 58 namely the bill seeking public servants to engage in other vocation beyond farming and that of Independent candidacy at elections. 

The sections rejected by lawmakers by voice votes say, “A bill for an Act to alter Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 to permit public servants to engage in healthcare education, production and services beyond farming, and for related matters. 

” A bill for an act to Alter the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, to provide for Independent candidacy in Presidential, Governorship, State Houses of assembly and Local Government councils elections and for related matters”.

The Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Mr.Timothy Owoeye and members directed the Clerk of the House of assembly Mr. Simeon Amusan to transmit the resolution of the Assembly on the Fifth alteration to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,1999 as amended to the National Assembly.

Osun State House of Assembly has exonerated the Bursar, Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, Dr. Olarewaju Oyedeji of alleged financial misappropriation levelled against him by the state Auditor General, Mr Folorunsho Adesina.

In the report presented by the chairman, House committee on Public Accounts, Hon Gbenga Ogunkanmi and signed by other members of the committee, the House recommended that “the office of the Auditor General for the state should remain professional in the discharge of its duties in the college and all auditing activities should be devoid of personal or premodial sentiments.”

The House also adopted the report of the external auditors nominated by the Auditor General himself, which had earlier exonerated the Bursar of any wrong doing.

The State House of Assembly further resolved that the office of the Auditor General for the state should work on other institutions in the state and report back to the House committee on Public Accounts.

It would be recalled that the Governing Council of the institution had earlier exonerated the Bursar of financial misappropriation as alleged by the Auditor General, having engaged the services of forensic auditors.

This was sequel to the fact that the Auditor General, Mr Folorunsho Adesina had earlier requested the Governing Council of the institution through a memo referenced GP/OSCE/6/Vol 111/16 dated 5th April, 2022 to look into the allegation.

The Governing Council in its submission advised the office of the Auditor General to be careful at blowing unnecessary information until it might have explored issues to the lasting stage, stressing that “the Auditor General should be aware that he is a civil servant and should not arrogate powers to himself and his office to the detriment of the state.”

Also, the Governing Council noted that the office of the Auditor General needs total overhauling to avoid giving the state government any unnecessary embarrassment.

Muslims are urged to sustain the lessons of the holy month for a better nation.

The speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, Mr Timothy Owoeye who stated this in a statement by his media Aide, Mr Kunle Alabi to commemorate the end of Ramadan, also called on Muslims to allow the lessons learnt during Ramadan to continue to radiate in their consciousness for a better nation.

Mr Owoeye called for tolerance and understanding of Nigerians to move the nation forward.

He emphasized that the period of fasting teaches Muslims to be more pious, disciplined and self controlled, while shielding their hearts from greed and immorality.

The speaker also asked for sustainable harmonious relationship among Nigerians to enhance the much needed stability of the nation, saying through this, the development of the country is assured.

Mr Owoeye added that the month of Ramadan presented Muslim faithful with the opportunity to reignite faith by desisting from acts that could take away their rewards from Almighty Allah after the Holy month.

He said, “We as Muslims must ensure that the lessons we have all learnt during our fasting period must be written in gold in our subconscious, we must all strive never to go back to our sinful ways. The good deeds during Ramadan must continue.”

“It is on record how fervently we have always prayed for a better society during the Holy month. Now that Ramadan is over, we should endeavour to continue to pray for the good of the land, and always learn to speak positively to the development of Nigeria.”

“May Allah accept all our Ibadah this Ramadan, lessons on peaceful co-existence, self control and purity have been learnt, May Allah make it easy for us to follow it through.”

Osun state house of Assembly Service Commission has been sworn -in.

Speaking at the event which took place at the Osun state local government service commission hall, government Secretariat, Abere, Governor Gboyega Oyetola tasked members of the commission to bring their wealth of experience to bear towards a more functional parliament.

Governnor Oyetola stressed the need for the commission to leverage on the freedom of institution being enjoyed in the state to promote workers’ welfare and Improved living standard for state residents.

In his response, chairman Osun state House of Assembly Service commission, Mr Abiodun Awolola promised that the commission would live up to expectations.

Mr Awolola who was a former member of the state parliament appreciated the governor for the confidence reposed in the commission.

According to Radio Nigeria, the Osun state House of Assembly Service commission has six commissioners including former members of Osun state house of Assembly.

They are Mr Ismail Kolawole, Akinola Olasunkanmi, Israel Aloba, Akinola Akinleye, Olalekan Omidiora and Kareem Afolabi.

Politicians have been called upon to exhibit good leadership in the course of duty. 

Former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola made the call in an interview shortly after a special valedictory service held in honour of the first Chief Whip of Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, late Prince Ajibola Adegorioye Oyinlola at the Assembly Complex in Osogbo.

Prince Oyinlola who described the deceased as someone who had served the state diligently during his lifetime noted that his legacies in the political arena would not be forgotten.

He further emphasized that the man was a core family man who embraced others with love. 

In a remark during the sitting presided over by the OHSA Deputy Speaker, Mr Olufemi Popoola described the deceased as a teacher who is known for diligence and humility.

In his contribution, the son of late lawmaker Mr Gbenga Oyinlola noted that his father was a good politician who carried everyone along in his doings.

In a goodwill message, the member representing Osogbo State constituency, Mr Taofeek Badamasi described the late Prince Oyinlola as one of those who laid the solid foundation of the Osun State House of Assembly.

Prayers were offered for the repose of the late lawmaker by members representing Ifedayo and Ila State constituency, Mrs Elizabeth Abioye and Mr Adebisi Jayeola.

Also present at the Valedictory program included, the widow of the late lawmaker, Princess Ebunlomo Oyinlola, younger brother to the deceased Mr Simson Oyinlola, daughter, Princess Abisola Oyinlola amongst other distinguished personalities.

Late Prince Ajibola Adegorioye Oyinlola who represented Odo-Otin State Constituency in the first Assembly and was the first Chief Whip between 1992-1993 was born on the 4th April 1940 and died in December 2022.

Osun State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Mr Abiodun Awolola as the Chairman, State House of Assembly Board alongside six others nominated by the State Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.

During The sitting which was presided over by the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Timothy Owoeye, the Lawmakers took turns to ask questions about the changes they intend to bring on board in rebuilding the service commission. 

In separate Remarks, Members representing, Obokun, Boripe and Ayedaade Mr Adewumi Adeyemi, Mr Femi Popoola and Mr Taiwo Adebayo Noted that the nominees possessed both political and legislative experience to serve the State.

The member representing Irewole/Isokan State constituency, Mr Marouf Olanrewaju Moved the motion for confirmation of the appointment of the nominees and was seconded by Member representing Osogbo, Mr Taofeek Badamosi.

In a remark, The Speaker, Mr Timothy Owoeye who noted that they should accept to function as a call to serve urged the nominees to cooperate with members in moving the State Assembly forward.

Mr Owoeye stressed that the State Governor would do the formal inauguration of the board in due time.

The State of Osun Environmental Protection Bill 2021 has scaled through its first reading.

The private member bill scaled through first reading in during plenary today at House of Assembly Osogbo.

The Speaker of the Parliament, Mr Timothy Owoeye in his remarks on the bill noted that the bill would solve and take care of environmental issues in the state.

Mr Owoeye stressed that the bill would regulate waste management and enhance the internally generated revenue of the state.

According to him, “The bill will solve the environmental issue and regulate waste management in the state”.

“The bill will enhance internally generated revenue of the state” he added.

However, the Speaker received a letter from the governor of the state Mr Gboyega Oyetola seeking the re-appointment of Osun Assembly Service Commission members.

The members included Mr. Abiodun Awolola, Mr Ismaila Kolawole, Mr Israel Aloba, Mr Ajibola Akinloye, Mr Omidiora Olalekan and Alhaji Kareem Afolabi.

He directed the nominees to submit 35 copies of their curriculum vitae between now and Friday and to appear for the screening exercise on Monday 7/2/2022.
