An Osogbo Magistrate Court has remanded 22-year-old Kareem Hammed in Ilesa correctional centre over an alleged N.2 million fraud.

The State Police Command had arraigned the suspect on a four-count charge bordering on fraud and theft.

Police prosecutor, ASP Mustapha Tajudeen told the court that the defendant, who worked as a POS agent at Olori Area Ikirun, stole the sum of N294, 000 between September 10 and 11, 2022, from his customers.

He stated that the alleged offences contravened Section 383 and were punishable under Section 390 of Criminal code cap 34 vol.11 law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

However, an emotional Hammed pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge slammed against him.

His counsel, Tunbosun Oladipupo, who urged the court to grant him bail, noted that the offences were bailable under the law.

The police prosecutor objected to his bail application.

He told the court that preliminary investigation revealed that the defendant was a notorious fraudster disguising himself as a POS operator.

While stating that more complaints were discovered while he was in police custody, he added that Hammed is not from Osogbo, therefore he might jump bail.

The presiding chief magistrate, O.A Ayilara refused the defendant bail and ordered him to be remanded in Ilesa correctional centre.

Ayilara adjourned the case to October 5 for mention.

An Osogbo Chief Magistrate court has ordered the remand of seven persons for threatening the peace of the community while being armed with dangerous weapon.

The defendants include Azeez Abibu (29), Musbau Nurudeen (23), Wasiu Sodiq (28), Ganiyu Lekan (27), Azeez Sikiru (26), Soliu Mohammed (20), and Ibrahim Mohammed (21).

The defendants were charged on fifteen counts ranging from conspiracy, malicious damage, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, unlawful shooting among others. 

The prosecutor Mr Olusegun Elisha told the Court that the seven defendants who allegedly belonged to a cult group ‘Aye’ committed the offence on the 18th of June 2022, with others still at large. 

He alleged that they damaged a billboard in Osogbo which belonged to the All-progressive congress (APC) with dangerous weapons. 

The offences are contrary to, and punishable under Section 516, 70, 64(a), 517, 451, 249(d), 517 and 80 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko ordered the defendants to be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre while he adjourned the case until 1st of August 2022 for hearing.

An Osogbo Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo has ordered that a 32-year-old man, Sunday Ojekale be remanded in Ilesha Correctional Center for allegedly marrying a second wife and threatening to kill his first wife.

Sunday was dragged before the Court by the police on three counts charge of unlawful marriage, called bigamy, threatening to kill and refusing to provide care for his children. 

The police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, said, the defendant on December 28th, 2019 at Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Onitea, Osogbo having being married to one Funmilayo Oluwaseun Ojekale and while she was still alive and without the marriage been dissolved or declared void by a court of competent jurisdiction, unlawfully married another wife- one Christiana Olujide. 

He added that the suspect threatened to kill his legal wife and failed to provide necessary things for his children without lawful excuse. 

The police prosecutor hinted that the offences were contrary to Sections 86, 339 and 370 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.ll Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charged preferred against him by the police.

The counsel to the defendant, Mr R. I Alebiosu, made an oral bail application assuring the court that his client would provide reliable sureties.  

The Magistrate, Mr A. A Adeyeba, declined the oral bail application, saying, he should file a formal bail application. 

Mr Adeyeba thereby ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ilesha Correctional Facility and adjourned the case until 23rd of March, 2021 for hearing.

An Osogbo Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo has ordered that a 44-years old man, Kazeem Olapade be remanded in Ilesa Correctional facility for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter. 

Olapade was arraigned on three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, indecent assault and canal knowledge of his daughter. 

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Jacob Akintunde told the court that Olapade who resided at Ido-Osun, Osogbo between August 2020 and January 2021 raped his daughter on many occasions before he was arrested by the police. 

According to him, the offence of unlawful sexual intercourse contravened Section 31(1) (2) of the Child’s Rights Law of Osun State 2007, while unlawful carnal knowledge is contrary to and punishable under Section 214(1) and 360of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. Il laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002. 

However, Olapade pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him. 

Counsel to the defendant, Mr K.C Abioye made an oral bail application for Olapade in the most liberal term. 

The presiding magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara refused to grant bail to the defendant, while he ordered that Olapade be remanded in Ilesha Correctional center. 

Dr Ayilara adjourned the matter till February 5, 2021, for ruling on bail application.

Osun State Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo the state capital has ordered the remand of eight men in prison for looting Akire palace

The accused persons are Akeem Okeowo 30, Hammed Raifu 34,Lakin Oyetade 35, Okeowo Saheed 29, Ibrahim Musiliu ,Ahmed SUNMONU 25,Kazeem Kamorudeen 18, Kolawole Opeyemi 23.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on October 26, 2020, at about 10:00am at Akire’s Palace, Ikire

He informed the court that the accused persons willfully and unlawfully broke and entered into Oba Olatunde Falabi’s palace and damaged two vehicles and other properties.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against them by the police

Defence Counsel, M.O Oyeyinka applied that the case should be transferred to Magistrate court Ikire

In her ruling, Magistrate Modupe Awodele ordered the remand of the accused persons in Ile-Ife correctional center

She ordered the police to refered the duplicate case file to the Directorate of public prosecution for advice and transfered the case to Ikire Magistrate court for mention on December 21,2002.

In Osun State, some of the people who participated in the looting that followed the #EndSARS protest have been dragged to court.

At the Osogbo Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo, the state capital, three persons arraigned for allegedly robbing the Senator representing Osun West, Mr Adelere Oriolowo. 

The three accused persons identified as Muslim Saheed (aged 38), Kazeem Ganiyu (Aged 43), and Olaleye Olawale (23) were arraigned by the police on two-count bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery. 

The prosecutor, Mr John Idoko informed the court, “that the three accused person and others now at large on the 24th day of October 2020 at about 7:00 AM at Senator Adelere Adeyemi Oriolowo’s Farm and Residence, Iwo did conspire and armed themselves with cutlasses, iron rods, sticks, and other dangerous weapons and robbed Senator Adelere Oriolowo of six plasma television sets, mattresses, kitchen utensils, agro-allied materials, and chemicals imported valued at two million naira, dresses, cable network decoders, deep freezers, milk processing machines, rice processing machines, tiling machines and other valuables.

The plea of the three defendants was not taken, while the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Awodele transferred the case to Iwo Magistrate Court and adjourned the matter to 4, November 2020. 

She ordered that they should be remanded in Ilesha Correctional Center. 

Similarly, ten other persons who allegedly participated in looting of the Atakumosa West Local Government Secretariat, Osu were also arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate Court.

A 55-year-old man who identified himself as an Islamic cleric, Sheu Adewoye, has been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo for fraudulently obtaining the sum of N5 million from a bricklayer on the pretence to secure a contract for him from Abuja. 

The cleric was arraigned on two counts bordering on obtaining by false pretence, fraud and stealing. 

The prosecutor, Mr Taiwo Adegoke told the court that the cleric committed the offence between December 2018 and April 2020 at Ido-Osun area, Osogbo. 

The charge sheet states that “Sheu Adewoye received the total sum of Five Million Naira from one Raheem Ajadi with the pretence that he wanted to assist him to secure building construction contract from Abuja through one Justice Adeleke, knowing same to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 419 of the criminal code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

He added that the offence contrary to and punishable under section 390(9) of the criminal code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count as he told the court that he was a cleric who prayed for people and owner of a Quranic school.

The complaint in the matter, Raheem Ajadi explained to the Magistrate that he was a bricklayer, cement dealer and trader in building materials in Ido-Osun. 

The Magistrate, Mr Opeyemi Badmus, granted bail to the defendant with the sum of N1 million and two sureties. 

He adjourned the case to 20 August 2020 for hearing.

A 27-year-old mobile phone repairer, Akanmu Jamiu has allegedly withdrawn about half a million naira from the account of one of his customers.

This was disclosed when he was dragged before an Osogbo Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo for fraudulently withdrawing the sum of N466,500 from the account of one Babatunde Jamiu.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olayiwola Rasaq informed the court that the accused person committed the offense between May, 18th and July 3rd, 2020, in Osogbo.

The Prosecutor explained that the accused person was given a phone to repair, and he took the advantage to hack the details of his customer, making it possible for him to withdraw the large sum.

According to Inspector Olayiwola Rasaq, the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.

The accused person pleaded not guilty and his counsel, Mr Okobe Najite applied for his bail with argument that he was a first time offender.

In his ruling Magistrate, E I Omisade ordered the remand of the accused person in Ilesa Correctional Center. 

He thereby adjourned the matter till 15th of July, 2020 for ruling on the bail application.

A 45-year-old man, Jonathan Ukonwe has been sentenced to 30 days imprisonment for not wearing a face mask and resisting arrest. 

Ukonwe was arraigned before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo on three counts bordering on resisting arrest, deliberate refusal to wear nose mask and assault. 

The convict pleaded guilty to two counts while he pleaded not guilty to the offense of assault of one Meshack Funmilola, a member of the Hunters Group of Nigeria currently working for Amotekun Corps. 

The Magistrate, Mr Opeyemi Badmus convicted and sentenced Ukonwe to 30 days imprisonment or a fine of 15,000 naira on the two counts.

However, he admitted him to bail on the third count of assault with the sum of 500,000 naira with two sureties in like sum.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Mr Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that Ukonwe committed the offence on 1 July 2020 at about 10:30 AM at Olaiya Junction Area, Osogbo. 

He said the convict intentionally resisted arrest following his deliberate refusal to wear a face mask in the public thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under sections 203 and 249(D) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.ll Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002. 

Mr Fagboyinbo also alleged that the convict assaulted one Mrs Meshack Funmilola of the Hunters Group of Nigeria while performing her lawful duty on the enforcement of the use of face mask and thereby committed an offence contrary to (2) and punishable under section 356 (2) of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2020.

The Osun State Police Command has dragged a 50-year-old man, Aina Taiwo before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo for alleged attempt to rape a school teacher. 

The defendant was arraigned on two counts of attempted rape and assault. 

The prosecutor, Mr Abiodun Fagboyinbo said the defendant committed the offence on Saturday at about 10:55 AM in Agunbelewo Area, Osogbo; an offence contrary to and punishable under sections 359 and 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The defence counsel, Mr Nagite Okobe applied for bail for his client in the most liberal terms. 

The Magistrate, Mr Badmus admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of 500,000 naira with one surety who must be a level 7 Civil Servant officer in the state. 

He adjourned the case to 9th of July 2020 for hearing.

An Osogbo Magistrate Court in Osun State has sentenced to 7 months imprisonment a 39-year-old man identified as Remi Ifamoyegum for stealing lubrication (engine) oil worth ₦469,000 since he was employed. 

Ifamoyegun was brought before the Magistrate by Police on two counts including stealing engine oil belonging to Mobil Oil Nigeria, Osogbo. 

The prosecutor, Inspector Kayode Adeoye, said the accused had been indulging in the Crime since he was employed in 2016 at Mobil Oil Nigeria PLC.

He stated that the offences committed contravened section 383 and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria. 

The prosecutor tendered the accused written statement with two gallons of oil as exhibit arguing that the convict stole the content and replaced with water. 

Ifamoyegun who pleaded guilty as charged explained that the reason for his action was due to his wife and mother’s medical needs which his  ₦7,500 salary could not catered for.

The defence counsel, Mr Remigus Ngwu, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy on his client stressing that Ifamoyegun is remorseful. 

Delivering the judgment, the Magistrate, Risikat Olayemi, sentenced Ifamoyegun to 7months imprisonment and ordered that he should pay the sum of ₦400,000 to the company.

The Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo the state capital has ordered the remand of Niyi Oluwafemi for having carnal knowledge of a 17-year-old girl in Gbongan in Irewole Local Government, Osun State.

According to the charge sheet, the defendant committed the offence on the17th of May at about 10:00am at Oke-Yidi area, Odeomu in Gbongan.

The Police prosecutor, Mr. Idoko John told the court that the defendant did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of one Abiodun Iyanu. 

The offense committed contrary to and punishable under section 358 and 350 of the criminal code cap 34 Volume ll law of Osun state 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two counts charges of carnal knowledge and assault leveled against him by the police.

The defense counsel, Mr Tunbosun Oladipupo urged the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms. 

The prosecutor opposed the bail of the defendant claiming that the victim is in critical situation and receiving treatment in the hospital. 

The Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Awodele ordered the defendant to be remanded in police custody. 

The case was transferred to Gbongan Magistrate court and adjourned the matter till 8th of June, 2020.

An Osogbo Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital has ordered the remand of two teenagers in Ilesha Correctional Facility for alleged destruction of a school perimeter fence. 

The accused, Nurudeen Adekunle, and Samson Adedeji were arraigned on two-count charge conduct likely to breach public peace and willful destruction of a school fence.

The prosecutor, Bankole Awoyemi said, the suspects and others now at large on or before 28 January 2020 at Gbodofon area, Osogbo in Osogbo Magisterial District did willfully and unlawfully damaged the perimeter fence of Baptist High School III. 

They pleaded not guilty to the charge pressed against them. 

The defense counsel to the two accused, Mr. Kayode Ajibola and Miss Julie Olorunfemi made an oral bail application on their behalf.

However, the magistrate, Modupe Awodele denied the bail application.

She ordered the two accused persons to be remanded in Correctional Facility Ilesha and adjourned the case to 10th February for ruling on the bail application.

An Osogbo magistrate court has arraigned a staff of Osun Internal Revenue Service (OIRS), Mr. Dare Ogunrinde for allegedly stealing the sum of six hundred and sixty-five thousand, seven hundred and twelve naira.

The accused person was arraigned on a 2-count charge bothering on stealing and breach of peace.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Mr. Abiodun Fatoyinbo, the accused, a level 10 officer with the agency received the said sum as a tax from some companies and refused to remit the amount to government coffers.

He said the offense committed contravenes section 353 and punishable under section 390 (9) of criminal code, cap 34, vol.11, law of Osun State, 2002.

Mr. Fatoyinbo added that the accused person, by his refusal to issue tax receipt of the amount paid conducted himself in a manner that could cause a breach of peace, thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 249 (9) of criminal code cap 34 law of Osun State, 2002.

The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the allegations preferred against him.

His counsel, Musa Abdullahi pleaded with the court to grant his client bail on very liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr. Olusegun Ayilara, therefore, granted the accused person bail in the sum of 500,000 naira with 2 sureties in like sum, saying one of them must be a civil servant of not less than level 10 and must be a house owner with evidence of such.

Also, both sureties must be sworn to an affidavit of means.

He thereafter adjourned the case to March 15 for hearing.
