As part of efforts to address food scarcity and boost local food production, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has announced plans to engage more youths in agriculture. 

Speaking during an inspection of a government warehouse in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji explained that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for state governors to prioritize food security as a critical strategy to combat hunger across the nation.

He revealed that his administration has already launched the first phase of the programme which involves young farmers actively participating in crop cultivation and livestock farming across the state. 

Governor Oyebanji disclosed that the government would be purchasing produce directly from the young farmers and also provide them with the necessary tools and resources to cultivate crops and rear livestock.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has called on Nigerians to prioritize security as a collective responsibility to ensure a safe and harmonious environment for all. 

He made the appeal during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration, Launch of the Emblem and Appeal Fund at the Lady Jibowu Hall, Government House Grounds, Ado Ekiti.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Oyebanji emphasized the need to shun actions that deepen divisions along ethnic, religious, or political lines, urging citizens to foster unity and peaceful coexistence. 

He said the launch of the emblem and appeal fund symbolizes support and appreciation for the gallant men and women of the armed forces, calling for generous donations to honour their sacrifices and sustain the fight for the nation’s freedom and progress. 

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to securing lives and properties in Ekiti state, with a pledge to leave no stone unturned in its efforts, while admonishing residents to support the initiatives by providing timely and useful information that could aid security efforts.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Ekiti State, retired Colonel AbdulRazaq Atoki, expressed gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for recognizing the contributions of the veterans and appealed for the inclusion of the state legion in the state’s social welfare packages. 

In another development, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has again appealed to friends, associates, and the public to forgo organizing birthday parties or placing newspaper advertisements to mark his 57th birthday on Saturday.

In a statement in Ado Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji encouraged those who wish to celebrate with him to channel their goodwill towards helping less privileged children in the state. 

He urged individuals to make cash or material donations to support the three Government Special Schools in Ekiti State, as well as the State Relief and Rehabilitation Centre for the Mentally Challenged in Ado Ekiti. 

The governor noted that gifts and donations to these institutions would be the most appreciated way to mark his birthday.

Governor Oyebanji expressed his heartfelt gratitude to those who contributed to the special schools during his birthday last year, emphasizing that such acts of kindness have a more meaningful impact on society.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has announced his administration’s plan to establish Renewed Hope farm settlements as part of efforts to revitalize agriculture and ensure food security in the state.

Governor Oyebanji made this known in Ado Ekiti while presenting over one hundred million Naira in cheques to the first batch of young farmers who are participating in the “Bring Back Our Youth to Agriculture” programme, an initiative, which is in collaboration between the state government and a private firm. 

The Governor revealed that the construction of the farm settlements would commence in January next year, with six settlements planned across various farm clusters in the state, adding that the settlements are named “Renewed Hope” as an honour to President Bola Tinubu’s support for agricultural projects in Ekiti.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Governor Oyebanji noted that the cheques represented the returns on their investments in the programme and encouraged the young farmers to reinvest their earnings wisely to achieve greater yields in the coming harvest season. 

In their remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade and the CEO of the private agricultural firm who financed the young farmers, Mrs Oluwayemisi Joluwe, said the government is aiming to be the largest producer of maize, cassava and tomatoes in the country with a call for more youths to participate in the programme.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has reiterated the necessity of establishing Army Barracks in the state to enhance security.

The governor, who made the request while receiving the General Officer Commanding GOC, Second Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Obinna Orji-Onubogo in his office in Ado Ekiti, said that Ekiti State possesses all the necessary criteria for setting up a military barrack.

He emphasized that while the existing Garrison Commander in the state is beneficial, a full-fledged Military Barrack would significantly enhance security measures. 

Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for his assistance, particularly during the recent security incident in the state. 

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding GOC, Second Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Orji-Onubogo, who was on a familiarization visit, commended Governor Oyebanji’s security strategies and pledged the Army’s unwavering commitment towards combating crimes in Ekiti.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has approved a new set of appointments into some strategic positions, as part of plans to position the administration for optimal service delivery.

The new appointments, contained in a statement signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode, on Tuesday, include Special Assistants (SAs), Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Technical Advisors (TAs).

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has extended Eid-el-Fitri greetings to the Muslim community in Ekiti and across the nation as they celebrate the end of the Ramadan fast.

In a statement in Ado Ekiti, governor Oyebanji reflected on Ramadan as a period embodying love, self-discipline, and sacrifice.

He encouraged Muslims to uphold the virtues and pursue truth and justice, as advocated by the Holy Quran.

The governor also called on them to pray for Nigeria’s triumph over its present adversities, emphasizing that peace is essential for all religious followers to significantly contribute to the nation’s socio-economic progress.

He particularly commended the Muslim populace in Ekiti for their steadfast support and contributions to his administration, through prayer, advice, and active engagement, with a call on them to continue fostering religious harmony in the state.

Governor Oyebanji appealed to all religious adherents in Ekiti to collaborate with the government in cultivating peace, maintaining order, and reviving the state’s esteemed values of integrity, excellence, respect, and industriousness.

Ekiti State governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji says his administration is working hard to ensure that the state sets zero per cent record of out-of-school children within the next two years.

Speaking at an event at Ekiti State University in Ado Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji highlighted that Ekiti already leads the nation in school attendance rates and has the lowest number of out-of-school children.

Emphasizing the critical role of education in fostering societal, political, and economic development, he reaffirmed the government’s dedication to continuous investment in education. 

Governor Oyebanji also noted the significant progress made through partnerships with various agencies, resulting in extensive renovations of over 200 secondary schools and the provision of educational materials to enhance the learning environment for students.

The governor called for a unified effort from all education stakeholders to further advance the quality of education in Ekiti State.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has cautioned Local Government and LCDA chairmen as well as other council officials against corrupt practices that can smear his name or tarnish the image of the state.

Mr Oyebanji who gave the warning in Ado Ekiti while declaring open a three days retreat for the newly elected Local Government/LCDA chairmen  said anyone found wanting would be sanctioned accordingly by the state house of assembly

He stressed the need for the new council bosses to be diplomatic by aligning their policy thrust with the yearnings and expectations of their people as well as the development plans of the state government.

He also reminded them that their position was not a privilege, but a responsibility to serve their people

Mr Oyebanji encouraged them to be innovative and creative in finding solutions to the challenges facing their people and communities.

In his welcome address, the state commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr Folorunsho Olabode, welcomed the participants and said the retreat was meant to train them on how to make effective decisions and to acquaint them with the rules and regulations of their office.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has appointed a renowned businessman and philanthropist, Dr Tunji Olowolafe, as the new Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti. 

The appointment, which is effective immediately, was announced in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, on Friday.

According to the statement, the Governor exercised his power as the Visitor to the University to appoint Dr Olowolafe, who is a native of Are-Ekiti and a graduate of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Ilorin. 

Dr Olowolafe is the CEO and Managing Director of Deux Project Limited, a civil engineering, construction, consultancy, and maintenance company, which he co-founded in 1988. 

He is also the Founder of Generic Product Limited, and the Chairman and Managing Director of Deux Investment Limited.

The statement described Dr Olowolafe as a man of integrity, vision, and excellence, who has contributed immensely to the development of Ekiti State and Nigeria at large. 

The Governor expressed his confidence that Dr Olowolafe would bring his wealth of experience, expertise, and goodwill to bear on the administration and growth of EKSU, which is one of the leading state-owned universities in Nigeria. 

The governor also congratulated Dr Olowolafe on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure.

Ekiti State Government says it has finalized a decision on the payment of wage awards to its workers as part of efforts to cushion the effects of economic hardship on them.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji disclosed this at the 2023 Christmas carols and lessons organized by the state government at the Obafemi Awolowo Civic and Convention Centre, Fajuyi, Ado Ekiti. 

The governor assured labour union leaders that the new wage award would be announced to them shortly and appealed to the unions to be understanding and accept whatever the amount might be.

The governor explained that the government had considered other important workers’ benefits such as gratuities, pension and deductions in determining the amount, saying that he does not want to offer wage awards he cannot sustain to the workers.

Speaking on the carol service, Oyebanji thanked the people of Ekiti for their support of his administration so far and assured them that 2024 would be more fulfilling and rewarding.

In a sermon, the pastor in charge of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 25, Ado Ekiti, Tunde Abdullahi, who stressed the importance of showing love, said the birth of Jesus Christ demonstrated God’s love for humanity.

Special renditions were delivered to the delight of the congregation at the programme by Mr governor and members of the state EXCO with the body of permanent secretaries, Women in Government led by Her Excellency, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, Ekiti State Performing Company, House of Assembly choir and women in management among others.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has thanked President Tinubu for consistently appointing the state indigenes to key federal positions. 

Governor Oyebanji expressed his gratitude when the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement, Mr Sunday Asefon visited him in Ado Ekiti to present his appointment letter.

He highlighted the president’s commitment to advancing the Ekiti cause, hoping for additional appointments for the state’s indigenes at the federal level.

The governor particularly praised the appointment of Mr Sunday Asefon as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement.

Mr Oyebanji urged Mr Asefon to exceed expectations, assuring him of the state government’s full support to ensure success in his mandates. 

In response, the SSA to the President on Student Engagement, Mr Sunday Asefon, expressed gratitude for the governor’s unwavering support for him and Ekiti youth with a pledge to leverage his position to champion the cause of Nigerian students.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has stressed the need for the creation of an inclusive world for People with Disabilities to break down barriers to foster a society where individuals’ unique talents are valued.

He stated this while addressing a gathering on the occasion of this year’s International Day of People With Disabilities held at the Lady Jibowu Hall in Ado Ekiti.

Mr Oyebanji said Ekiti was at the forefront of creating a more inclusive society with the passage of laws to protect the rights of people with disabilities while investing in programmes that help them to flourish.

The Governor who highlighted the achievements and initiatives of his administration especially in the areas of education, employment, and training, expressed gratitude to the various stakeholders and partners who have supported his vision for the PWD.

Earlier, the  Special Adviser to the governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Adetoun Agboola, said the government decided to celebrate this year’s International Day for the PWD to give them a sense of belonging.

The event featured a panellist discussion on PWD issues, a choreographic display, special goodwill messages from stakeholders and a quiz game where the School for the Physically Challenged, Ido Ekiti, emerged as the winner among other activities.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has urged the Nigerian Army to remain loyal to the country in order to safeguard democracy.

Governor Oyebanji made this appeal while receiving the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Bamidele Alabi in his office in Ado Ekiti.

He said democracy is the best system of government for the current situation of things, praising the Nigerian Army for adhering to the principles of democracy, encouraging them to continue doing so.

He said that once there is a stable and orderly form of government, development will be easier for the government to deliver to the people.

The governor said a secure society attracts investors, hence the need to maintain a strong collaboration and partnership with the army to ensure a peaceful environment.

Expressing the gratitude of the government and Ekiti people to the Nigerian Army for confronting security challenges, Governor Oyebanji said the country owed its stability to the efforts of the devoted men of the military, who have been fighting insurgency on the frontline.

Oyebanji said the state government would continue to provide suitable facilities and give the necessary support to the army to succeed in their operation, with a request for more personnel in the state.

Earlier, Major General Bamidele Alabi the General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, who said he was on a familiarization visit to Ekiti, thanked governor Oyebanji for his support to the military personnel in the state and for putting measures in place to ensure peace and security.

Major General Alabi emphasised the need for the military to intensify its operations in Ekiti but solicited more logistics support from the state government to improve the activities of the personnel.

He noted that security issues require the efforts of everyone with a call on the people of Ekiti to continue to provide the needed information and other supports that the troops need to perform optimally.

Major General Alabi however assured governor Oyebanji of the continued cooperation of the army towards ensuring adequate security of lives and properties of the people.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji says more policies and programmes geared towards poverty eradication and wealth creation await the people of the state

He stated this while giving an account of his stewardship at the State Assembly Complex, Ado Ekiti as part of activities marking his first anniversary in office.

Mr Oyebanji reeled out achievements of his administration in economy, agriculture, infrastructure, education, employment, health, art and culture, sports, security and human capital development, among others with a promise to build on the success.

He appreciated the people of Ekiti, especially the past leaders, development partners, security agencies and other key actors, who had played vital roles in the journey towards fulfilling the transformation agenda of his administration in the past one year.

The governor, while elaborating on the various government efforts, particularly in the health sector, emphasised that delivery services for pregnant women is now free in all the Primary Health Care Centers across the state.

In his remarks, the speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Adeoye Aribasoye acknowledged and highlighted some of the visible achievements of Governor Oyebanji in the state with a promise that the House would continue to maintain cordial relationships and accord priorities to the pursuit of an agenda that would promote development in Ekiti.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has presented the 2024 budget estimate of about one hundred and sixty billion Naira to the State House of Assembly.

Presenting the annual budget, tagged “Budget of sustainable growth and development” at the assembly complex in Ado Ekiti, governor Oyebanji, said the proposed expenditure was prepared towards achieving his administration’s six points transformation agenda.

He said the budget would enable the government to fulfill its social contract signed with the people by focussing more on Capacity building for youth and women, agriculture, urban and rural electrification, roads construction, health, renovation of schools and construction of indoor sports complex among others.

The governor who highlighted various achievements of his administration in the last one year, proposed the capital expenditure of over seventy billion Naira while about ninety billion Naira is estimated for Recurrent expenditure for the 2024 budget.

The speaker of the House Mr Adeoye Aribasoye passed a vote of confidence on the performance of the governor and the budget, with a promise that the 7th assembly would give the proposed financial appropriation the deserved consideration and speedy passage.

 As part of efforts to further strengthen Ekiti State security architecture, governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has presented operational vehicles and equipment to the state police command.

Operational vehicles and equipment presented include two Armoured Personnel Carrier, ten patrol Hillux, fifty bullet proof vest, Helmets, tactical boots among others.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, held at the Fajuyi Pavilion in Ado Ekiti, governor Oyebanji said his administration would continue to evaluate the security situation in the state for improved standard.

Governor Oyebanji who expressed his administration zero tolerance to criminalities, said the government would continue to make efforts towards equipping security agencies with necessary combative gadgets to ensure safety of lives and properties of the residents.

He expressed the belief that the equipment would further compliment operations and boost the morale of the personnel, urging them to  intensify efforts at nipping crimes in the bud, as he promised that similar gestures would be extended to other security agencies in the State.

Reacting, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dare Ogundare who expressed delight over the development, said the equipment would enhance performance of the force and assist in bringing criminalities to its lowest heb in the state.

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory at the Presidential Election Petition Court which upheld his February 25 election.

Governor Oyebanji, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, described the judgment as “solid and detailed” and “a judicial sustenance of the mandate given to the clear winner of the presidential poll”.

He also hailed the judiciary for upholding the truth, stressing that the judicial affirmation of President Tinubu’s election has confirmed the choice of the majority of Nigerians who elected the All Progressives Congress presidential flag bearer as President of the country.

Mr Oyebanji pointed out that the Tribunal verdict had laid every doubt on the validity and authenticity of the presidential result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to rest and served as a proof that democracy and the rule of law are becoming firmly rooted in Nigeria.

According to the Governor, the latest judicial seal on Tinubu’s legitimacy will make Nigeria command more respect in the comity of nations as a beacon of hope for democracy in Africa and a model to other countries of the world.

Mr Oyebanji, who sat through the period of the judgement on Wednesday in Abuja, hailed the Presidential Election Petition Court  for patiently and painstakingly looking into evidence provided by parties to the suit, before arriving at the verdict.

He said the painstaking handling of the matter by the court had further enhanced election dispute jurisprudence in the country.

The Governor praised the judges for their hard work, industry, perseverance and for acting as impartial arbiters who only arrived at their final decision based on the evidence before them and did justice to all the petitions.

Governor Oyebanji urged Nigerians to rally support for the President to succeed in the onerous task of leading the country to economic prosperity. 

The Governor appealed to the opposition parties and their presidential candidates who lost at the Presidential Election Petitions Court to join hands with Asiwaju Tinubu to move Nigeria forward.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has stressed the need for all ministries in the state to work together with relevant Special Advisers so as to ensure robust service delivery in governance.

Governor Oyebanji stated this during the swearing-in of the state’s Head of Service and four commissioners who missed the earlier ceremony.

They include Mrs Tosin Aluko, Mr Olaiya Atibioke, Professor Bolaji Aluko and Mr Oladapo Karonwi as new members of the State Executive Council, held at the governor’s office, Ado Ekiti.

He told members of the council to let the spirit of fairness, compassion and equity guide whatever decision they take concerning the people, with a call on commissioners to form harmonious working relationship with special advisers whose functions are connected to their ministries.

Mr Oyebanji said he would be holding meetings with some commissioners, permanent secretaries and special advisers to agree on how to have definitive role functions and job description, starting from tomorrow.

The Governor also used the occasion to assign portfolios to the two newly sworn-in commissioners in the state, Professor Bolaji Aluko as Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities while Mr Oladapo Karonwi is the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has recalled the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Home Affairs, Mr Olaiya Atibioke from suspension. 

The recall followed expiration of the two weeks suspension imposed on the Commissioner on the 12th of this month.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode, Mr Atibioke is expected to resume work at his office  today.

The Governor urged top government functionaries in the state to take a cue from the suspension, while restating his administration’s zero tolerance for indiscipline and actions that are inimical to the progress of the state.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has approved the appointment of Mr. Sunday Komolafe as the new Head of Service, HOS, in the State Civil Service.

Mr. Komolafe, until his new appointment, was the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transportation.

He takes over from Mr. Bamidele Agbede, who is billed to retire from the State Civil Service on Friday, August 18th, having attained the mandatory 35 years in the service.

A statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode says Mr Komolafe’s appointment as Head of Service takes effect from Monday, August 21, 2023.

The new Head of Service holds a Second Class Upper degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ibadan.

Mr. Komolafe is a chartered and registered Engineer with the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria, COREN, and a corporate member, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE.

He started his civil service career with the then Ondo State Civil Service in July 1989.

He joined the Ekiti State Civil Service in 1996 upon the creation of the state and served as General Manager of the State Electricity Board between 2002 and 2014.

Mr. Komolafe, who hails from Omuo Ekiti, Ekiti East Local Government Area, was appointed Permanent Secretary in 2014.

Prior to his appointment as Head of Service, he had served as Permanent Secretary in several Ministries including the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Utilities (2014-2016); Office of the Deputy Governor (2016-2020); Ministry of Local Government Affairs (2020-2022); Ministry of Works and Transportation (2022- till present).

Meanwhile, Governor Oyebanji has commended the outgoing Head of Service, Mr Bamidele Agbede for his meritorious service to the state, especially his brilliance, resourcefulness, professionalism, and exemplary leadership, which greatly helped in repositioning the State Civil Service for optimal service delivery. 

The governor wished Mr. Agbede success in his future endeavors.

As part of efforts to cushion the effect of the recent fuel subsidy removal on workers in Ekiti State and other residents, Government has rolled out palliative measures to ameliorate their sufferings.

Addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the chairman of the Palliative Committee and Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akin Oyebode said the arrangements were arrived at after a thorough consultative move and deliberations by members of the committee.

Mr Oyebode said based on recommendations by the Committee, Governor Biodun Oyebanji had approved immediate payment of one year leave bonus for both the State and Local Government workers, as well as payment of one month arrears for pensioners of both government tiers and payment of one month subvention arrears to tertiary institutions.

Other approved measures include payment of consequential adjustment on minimum wage for state and LG workers on grade level 14 to 17,  provision of free shuttle buses for workers and students, implementation of 90% CONHESS and 100% Hazard allowance for health staff as well as  implementation of financial benefits of 2020 and 2021 promotions for workers.

According to Mr Oyebode, #5000 will be paid to the poorest and vulnerable residents as conditional cash transfer to ten thousand households, starting from this month till December this year with emphases on the aged.

He added that there would also be food distribution to the people, inputs to farmers and financial support to small businesses among others.

A former lawmaker and member of the Social Democratic Party, SDP Mr Bimbo Daramola, has described Governor Biodun Oyebanji as a huge blessing to Ekiti, saying the governor’s scorecard may influence his return to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Mr Daramola, who represented Ekiti North Federal Constituency One in the House of Representatives stated this when he paid a visit to Governor Oyebanji in Ado Ekiti.

He said his visit was informed by the need to identify with Mr Oyebanji for his overwhelming performance and achievements in all sectors within the short time he assumed office, calling on the governor not to waver in his transformation drive.

Mr Daramola, who was also a candidate of SDP in the last National Assembly election in Ekiti State, confirmed that there was a possibility of returning to the APC owing to the fact that the Ekiti State helmsman was demonstrating an inspiring leadership quality that had captivated him and rated the governor’ performance eighty percent.

According to the former lawmaker, Mr Oyebanji’s all-inclusive style of leadership and excellent performance in Ekiti was a good sign that the state would witness tremendous development in all ramifications, as he urged the people of the state to give him the needed support to deliver on his mandate.
