Officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force have been urged to always be professional in discharging their civic responsibility.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, in charge the southwest geopolitical zone , Mr  Babatunde Kokumo stated this during a working visit to the Police Command in Oyo State.

Mr Kokumo said Police officers should at all times respect people’s rights and be civil with people.

He noted that their training,  uniforms and their ammunitions  were meant to protect the public and should  not be used in threatening,  assaulting or extortion money from the citizens.

DIG Kokumo explained that Police are peace makers,  hence the need for them to work within the ambience of law.

He stated further that though,  some members of the public had lost hope in Policemen, the assumption could still be redeemed through professionalism,  dedication,  diligence and lawful behaviour.

The DIG ,therefore, called on the Command not to allow disgruntled elements to distract or lure them from discharging their duties optimally.

Earlier, in her address of welcome, Commissioner of Police in Oyo state,  Mrs Ngozi Onadeko said though,  the Command was faced with numerous challenges , through the resilience of gallant officers the siege had reduced gradually.

Mrs Onadeko ,therefore, assured the public of a continuous improvement in the security sector and called for more support from members of the public through intelligence sharing of information as well as a solid synergy among other sister agencies.
