Government workers in Oyo State will begin to enjoy the 80,000 naira as minimum wage from January 2025.
A statement from the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, says the Oyo State Government has reached an agreement with organized labour on the implementation of the minimum wage and consequential adjustments.
The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Professor Olanike Adeyemo and the Head of Service, HoS, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, led others in signing the agreement on behalf of the government while Comrade Kayode Martins of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC and Comrade Bosun Olabiyi of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, alongside other labour leaders signed for the organised labour.
The negotiating council agreed that the new minimum wage salary structure shall be effective nominally from July 1st, 2024 but financially from January 1st, 2025.
According to the commissioner, those who retire between July 1st and December 31st 2024 will have their retirement benefits calculated based on the new minimum wage.
The statement implores all ministries and extra-ministerial departments to be more aggressive in their revenue generation drive to significantly improve the internally generated revenue, IGR of the state.
Following his emergence as the Chairman of Conference of Speakers on Saturday, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal has led other top government functionary to give the Oyo State House of Assembly, OYHA Speaker, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin a hero’s welcome.
The Deputy Governor was joined by the Chief Justice of Oyo State, Justice Iyawo Yerima, Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Professor Olajumoke Adeyemo, Deputy Speaker, Honourable Muhammed Fadeyi, former Deputy Speaker, Abdul-wasi Musah, commissioners and other members of the House of Assembly.
Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, who was hosted to the reception at Western Hall of the Parliament Building, House of Assembly Complex, Secretariat on Monday, was celebrated by loyalists from Ibarapa East and Oyo State as a whole.
In his goodwill message, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, assured that the Governor Seyi Makinde’s led administration will continue to cooperate with the legislative and the judiciary arms of government to keep moving the state forward.
“Once again, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, we will continue to cooperate with the legislature and judiciary to keep moving the state forward”.
“Oyo State is coming stronger and is going to be the best state in Nigeria. From what we have been doing together, we are well focused in such a way that the primary assignment of each arm of government is for Oyo State to prosper and grow”.
Barr Lawal described the leadership qualities of the speaker as a unique one that is worthy of emulation.
He said that Ogundoyin’s humility and leadership style paved way for his emergence as the Chairman of Conference of Speakers.
“It’s not ordinary that young people are occupying position of authority, they can only come out stronger with their initiatives and resourcefulness. And I am happy that you are endowed with these,” Barr Lawal said.
“We will continue to pray for the speaker, encourage him, and continue to seek for the support of the 10th House of Assembly in all ramifications,” the Deputy Governor said.
Speaking separately, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Professor Olanike Adeyemo and Chief Justice of Oyo State, commended the leadership style and administrative acumen of the speaker.
They, therefore, wished him a successful tenure in office.
In his address, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde, supporters, and members of the Oyo State House of Assembly for providing him the opportunity to become the House speaker.
While attributing the achievement to the track records of successes achieved by the Governor Seyi Makinde’s led administration in the state, the Speaker disclosed that it is God that is working to bring Oyo State back to the Pacesetter.
Mr Ogundoyin reiterated his commitment to Oyo State as his first constituency, promising that he will not compromise it to ensure that it function optimally.
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has approved the reappointment of Mr Tokunbo Talabi as the Secretary to the State Government, SSG.
A statement by the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Information, Mr Waheed Adesina indicates that Governor Abiodun also reappointed Dr Toyin Taiwo as Deputy Chief of Staff, DCS.
The statement indicates that the appointments take immediate effect.
Osun State Government says all the relevant agencies will be fully involved in the planning and execution of the population census in the state to ensure its success.
The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye stated this at the inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Population and Housing Census at the Exco Lounge, Governor’s Office, Abere, Osogbo.
Alhaji Igbalaye who noted that Osun State was under-represented in the figures published for the 1991 National Population Census said the committee was put together to ensure that facts and figures about the state are correctly compiled during the next census.
He pointed out that information on the size, distribution, and characteristics of a country’s population are essential for describing and assessing its economic, social, and demographic circumstances as well as for developing sound policies and programmes aimed at fostering the welfare of a country and its population.
Alhaji Igbalaye, therefore, directed the committee to map out appropriate sensitization and mobilization strategies for the activities of the National Population and Housing Census Exercise, to organize advocacy and sensitization programmes for local government functionaries, the media, and NGOs, on population and related issues.
He also urged the committee to regularly liaise with the National Population Commission in the state with a view to fashioning out strategies for an effective and acceptable population census.
In his remark, the Statistician General, Bureau of Statistics, Osun State, Mr Abiodun Ijidele said the committee would organize meetings with community heads to ensure that there are no intra- and inter-boundary disputes which may affect the census exercise.
Mr. Ijidele who is also the secretary of the committee advised Osun people not to leave their place of residence in order to be counted in their home towns.
The Osun State Government has declared Friday 24th February as a public holiday for residents and indigenes to travel to their hometowns for the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, the governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke gave the approval for the civil servants to also exercise their franchise.
The statement urged the civil servants to utilize the opportunity to go to the local government areas where they register as voters to participate in the electoral process.
The governor according to the statement, appealed to all residents to be law-abiding as they peacefully exercise their voting rights on Saturday and in subsequent elections.
Ogun State government has cautioned industries and commercial facilities operating with chemicals and other materials capable of degrading the environment against non-adherence to laws and regulations of the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun gave the caution while declaring open the maiden edition of a workshop for chemical handlers and users on Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr Tokunbo Talabi explained that the training was aimed at improving the environment and enhancing a sustainable economy for future generations.
He called for responsible and responsive chemical management among the industrial outfits in Ogun State.
Governor Abiodun stressed that the state government would continue to strive to achieve safe air, water and land for the social well-being of every citizen.
Earlier, the Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya explained that the thirty-seven reported chemical accidents in Ogun State during this year would have been averted with training and adequate prevention procedures in place.
The commissioner said Ogun State would continue to abide by the National protocols of chemical handling and to further reduce chemicals found in the agricultural produce for exportation.
One hundred and fifty participants drawn from companies from within and outside Ogun State participated in the workshop with the theme, Chemical control and management, strategies to achieving sustainable development goals in the state.
The Oyo State government has enrolled 45,000 poor and vulnerable people under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, BHCPF, in the state.
This, the state government said was part of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration’s efforts to provide free medical services for its people.
Speaking during the launch of the programme on Friday, at the Aafin Primary Health Care Center, Oyo, Atiba Local Government area of Oyo State, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun said the vision of the state government is to achieve Universal Health Coverage for all residents of Oyo State where no one is left behind in accessing healthcare.
Mrs Adeosun extolled the state government for availing the residents of Oyo State of the opportunity under the BHCPF scheme.

The SSG enjoined the enrollees to take advantage of the opportunity under the Access to Care Scheme without paying out of pocket and thereafter she performed the symbolic distribution of BHCPF ID cards.
She reiterated the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to achieving Universal Health Coverage.
Speaking at the official flag-off ceremonies of access to care under BHCPF, the Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency, OYSHIA, Dr Sola Akande disclosed that, “Oyo State is about to witness the final push towards Universal Health Care in Oyo State and Nigeria at large.”
Speaking further, Dr Akande, stated that the federal government through the National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA, has made available a total amount of 450,000,000.00 naira in the first tranche and 264,000,000 naira in the second tranche for enrollment of 37,500 people.
He, however, announced that through the innovation of the Agency, the same amount of money will be used to enrol 45,000 residents of the state into the scheme.
Dr Akande also assured successful enrollees that they can access care without paying out-of-pocket through the ID card issued to them by the agency.
The Basic Health Care Provision Fund’s primary objective is to help achieve Universal Health Coverage and enhance access to primary health care services for Oyo state citizens especially the poor and the vulnerable, women, children under 5, and children in orphanages.
Present at the flag-off ceremony are the Oyo-Mesi led by High Chief Yusuf Akinade Ayoola the Oosorun of Oyo; the General Manager, NHIA, Lagos office, Mr Olufemi Akingbade; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Adesoji Adeyanju; the Executive Secretary, Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, Dr Muyideen Olatunji among others.
As Oyo State flags off access to care, under BHCPF, the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency has empanelled 22,018 lives into 127 PHCs across 33 LGA’s and have paid capitation into all of these facilities for effective health care service delivery to enrollees.

The Chairman of the Olubadan Coronation Committee, who is also the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, made this public in Ibadan saying that the Government of Oyo State was ready to host a grand event befitting of the status of the revered monarch.
The SSG felicitated his Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Olalekan Balogun, his immediate family, the Olubadan-in-Council and the entire sons and daughters of Ibadanland, both home and in the Diaspora, on the dawn of a new era, urging all to pray for a successful tenure.

The Delta State Government has announced the 17th of April for the unveiling of the logo and mascot for the 21st National Sports Festival, NSF, scheduled to commence in November this year.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr Patrick Ukah, who doubles as the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, stated this in Asaba at the end of a meeting with top delegates of the LOC.
Mr Ukah pointed out that efforts to upgrade sporting arenas ahead of the event had begun, noting the facilities would be ready by the end of the second quarter of this year.
The SSG said the committee had designated a Games Village and other locations close to the venue of the festival to accommodate four thousand athletes and three thousand officials expected at the games.
The LOC Chairman added that an entertainment centre would be arranged for a viewing of the multi-sports festival, which would also be aired live.
Former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has called on the present administration in the state to focus more on projects and programmes that would be of great benefit to the people of the state.
Chief Osoba made the call at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos while receiving members of the Ogun State Executive Council who paid him a visit on his arrival from the United Kingdom after a successful knee surgery.
While expressing delight with the level of development in Ogun State, especially in the areas of road infrastructure, education, health and security, Chief Osoba urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to remain resolute in executing sustainable projects across the state.
The former governor who commended the present administration for its land reform programme noted that apart from discouraging land speculators, it would also allow the state to reap huge benefits from its land resources.

Ogun State Chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, has suspended the industrial action embarked upon over two months ago over cut in salary.
The Chairman of the Union, Comrade Tajudeen Edun, announced that there were series of meetings before the issue was finally resolved.
He said the union had reached an agreement with the government and the union will resume work.
Comrade Edun said the state government had accepted the union’s demand and promised that members will partner the government in achieving greater heights.

Ogun State Government has advocated an increase in its quota for the number schools benefiting from the Federal Government’s National Home Grown School Feeding Programme ahead of plans to accommodate additional Five million pupils across the country by the year twenty-twenty three.
Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi made the appeal in Abeokuta at a stakeholders meeting to enumerate Beneficiaries and scale up the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme.
The Home Grown School Feeding Programme, was initiated by the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration in the 2016 with multifaceted intervention to increase school enrolment, boost pupils’ nutrition and support local production of food as well as to promote employment and income generation.
Records have shown that the provision of the one nutritional meal per day to classes one to three pupils in public primary schools has been of benefit to over nine million pupils nationwide.
Secretary to Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi who pointed out that about one hundred and seventy-eight thousand, one hundred and twenty-nine pupils had been captured under the school feeding programme in the state requested that the yet to be captured thirty three schools in the state should be accommodated in the list of participating schools.
Mr. Talabi who called for more support from the federal government gave the assurance that necessary mechanism would be deployed to extend the programme to more schools ahead of the commencement of the next academic calendar in September.
In a remark, the Director of Human Resources, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Babatunde Jaji said the team was in the state to strengthen the partnership and work on the need to do more on enhancing the Home Grown School Feeding Programme especially in the area of scaling up the number of the pupils benefitting from the programme across the country.
In the bid to pass on the culture of preserving the environment to the next generation, Oyo State Government has launched the Clean and Green Club in public secondary schools across the state.
Flagging off the launch of 50 Mobile toilets and the Clean and Green Club with selected schools, at the Ministry of Environment, Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde who said the initiative would be extended to more schools in the state charged the students to make a difference in their environments.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, Governor Makinde said the state had taken steps to improve her rank on the list of states with low tolerance for open defecation with the launch of the Public Mobile Toilets.
Commissioner for Environment, Mr Idowu Oyeleke said the Mobile Toilets would be deployed to Markets, Motor Parks and other remote areas in the state to curb open defecation.
He said the initiative was achieved through Public Private Partnership and would be monitored by the Ministry.
Mr Oyeleke noted that 500,000 trees would be planted between now and 2023, therefore the students would be trained to plant trees in their schools and environment.
Earlier the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry had led other health officers to Oje market to sensitize the people and plant trees.
