The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Chidi Ebere, for the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa area of the state.
The incident occurred early Wednesday morning when the suspect reportedly hired a motorcycle ridden by 36-year-old Sunday Ogbu.
During the trip, the suspect allegedly attacked the rider in an attempt to steal the motorcycle, leading to a violent struggle.
Witnesses raised the alarm, attracting the attention of Police officers who quickly reported to the scene.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the incident in a statement adding that the victim was rushed to a hospital but was later confirmed dead.
Mr Babaseyi said that the suspect was arrested on the spot, while the motorcycle and a knife believed to have been used in the attack were recovered.
Mr PPRO confirmed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
