Twenty-four hours after prominent Nollywood actors and members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Cynthia Okereke and Clemson Cornel, aka Agbogidi, were kidnapped in an Enugu suburb, their abductors have contacted their families.
The actors were reported missing after their family members confirmed they didn’t return home from a film location at Ozalla Town, Enugu state, on Thursday.
Both actors are renowned for starring in movies shot in Enugu and Delta states.
On Saturday, the AGN national president, Emeka Rollas said that the kidnappers are requesting a lump sum in dollars.
He said, “The kidnappers have made contact with the families and are demanding the sum of $100,000. We pray to God for his intervention and for Him to put confusion in their midst.
“We are also working closely with the different security operatives, but we are not sure what to expect from them because the same thing is happening everywhere in the country.”
Mr Rollas also said members of the Guild are working closely with the families of the victims and the security forces to ensure their safe release.
As part of measures to forestall a repeat occurrence, Mr Rollas said that the Guild had ordered its members not to shoot outside of the metropolis and to ensure that they make adequate provisions for security in their locations.
AGN’s Director of Communications, Monalisa Chinda, broke the news of the kidnap of the actors in a statement made available on Friday.
Ms Chinda said their kidnap had increased fear amongst members about the safety of actors filming in the country.
When you make red velvet cake from a box, you don’t need to come to terms with just how much food colouring is needed to turn a chocolate cake red.
If you make your cake from scratch, as a recipe developer you’ll see just how much is needed — up to 2 whole tablespoons in all. You can choose to use less food colouring if you like, but admits “I just love making these cupcakes bright, bold, and full of colour.” If you like, though, you can dial the amount back to just a tablespoon, or even less, if you don’t mind a less-vivid cake.
Red velvet is traditionally a mixture of vanilla and chocolate, and these hit the mark perfectly with both flavours being present and balanced together perfectly.” The sweet cupcakes, she says, are nicely balanced by the tangy cream cheese frosting, as well.
In addition to the red food colouring, you’ll need your standard from-scratch cake stuff.
The dry ingredients include all-purpose flour, sugar (both granulated and powdered), baking powder, baking soda, and, for the light chocolate flavour, a small amount of cocoa powder.
The not-so-dry ingredients are butter (make sure this is at room temperature), eggs (room temperature’s good for these, too), milk (keep this in the fridge until you use it), vanilla, and cream cheese.
If you want to make the cupcakes look pretty, you can always top them with sprinkles.
Another suggestion is to “use chocolate shavings or curls for a fun decorative touch.”
Make the cupcake batter
Before you get started, preheat the oven.
Whisk the dry ingredients together in a big mixing bowl along with ¼ teaspoon of salt.
Beat the soft butter into the dry ingredients (MacLean likes to use a hand or a stand mixer for this part) until thoroughly combined.
At this point, you should have something vaguely resembling sand.
In a separate bowl, mix the wet stuff: the eggs, milk, red food colouring, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla.
Slowly stir this mixture into the “sand” to make the bright red batter.
Line a muffin pan with paper cupcake liners.
If you haven’t got any of these, use a lot of grease and flour or nonstick cooking spray, but note that paper liners do make everything easier.
Pour the batter into each liner until it reaches about ⅔ of the way up the sides, then put the pan in the preheated oven and bake the cupcakes for 15 to 20 minutes.
When you think they are done, test them with a toothpick just to make sure.
If you stick one in the middle of a cupcake and it comes out clean, you should be good to go.
Let the cupcakes cool on a wire rack.
Frost the cupcakes
While the cupcakes are baking or cooling, you can make the frosting.
Beat the remaining butter — which should be really quite soft by now — together with the cream cheese, then stir in the remaining vanilla and ¼ teaspoon salt.
Add the powdered sugar a cup at a time until your frosting is smooth and spreadable.
The ingredients call for 3 cups, but you may need only 2 or perhaps 2 ½. When the cupcakes are cool, frost them, decorate as desired, and then enjoy.
Recipes
1 ⅔ cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
1 cup unsalted butter, divided
3 eggs
3 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
¾ cup whole milk
2 tablespoons red food colouring
8 ounces cream cheese
3 cups powdered sugar
Optional Ingredients
Sprinkles
Directions
Preheat the oven
Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and ¼ teaspoon salt.
Beat ½ cup of butter into the dry ingredients until a sandy mixture forms.
Combine the eggs, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, milk, and red food colouring in a separate bowl.
Slowly add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, stirring until well combined.
Line a muffin pan with cupcake liners. Fill the cupcake liners with batter until they’re ⅔ full.
Bake the cupcakes for 15 to 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Once the cupcakes are finished baking, allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.
Beat the remaining butter together with the cream cheese.
Add the remaining vanilla extract along with ¼ teaspoon salt to the butter mixture, beating until smooth.
Stir in the powdered sugar 1 cup at a time until the desired consistency is reached (you may not need all of the sugar).
Spread the cream cheese frosting on the cupcakes. Decorate with sprinkles if desired.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on Thursday sentenced a Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha, to 16 years imprisonment.
Baba Ijesha is facing six counts of child defilement that include indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration.
The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions, which proffered the charges against the actor, argued that the offences contravene Section 135, 137, 261, 202, 262 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which stipulates life imprisonment for offenders.
Baba Ijesha pleaded not guilty to all the counts. However, a Closed-Circuit Television video recording detailing his relationship with the victim said to be a minor was played in court.
Delivering the judgement, Justice Taiwo said that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty of all the charges against him.
However, she found the defendant guilty of two of the six counts against him.
The defendant was arraigned on June 24, 2021. During the trial, six prosecution witnesses testified against him.
They were actress and comedienne, Princess, the 14-year-old minor, a child expert, Mrs Olabisi Ajayi-Kayode, and medical doctor, Dr Aniekan Makanjuola.
Others were the Investigating Police Officer, ASP Wahab Kareem, and a policewoman, Inspector Abigail Omane.
The DPP closed its case against the defendant on December 15, 2021, while Baba Ijesha called four witnesses and closed its defence on April 1.
The defence witnesses were Baba Ijesha (defendant) and Mr Lawrence Ayeni, an expert in video production and CCTV installation and maintenance.
Mr Olukayode Olugbemi, a clinical psychologist and Mr Olukayode Ogunbanjo, the defendant’s friend and colleague also testified for the defence.
Defence counsel, Mr Dada Awosika (SAN), in adopting his final written address dated May 12 and filed on May 16, urged the court to dismiss the suit and discharge the defendant.
Awosika argued that the footage of the CCTV was illegally obtained.
He had said, “In the interest of justice, exhibit A which was the CCTV footage that recalled the event was illegally obtained.
“The exhibit was not tendered by the maker. It was tendered by Princess, the complainant.”
He argued that the recording had been tampered with especially since the defendant did not go to the complainant’s house uninvited.
He further submitted that the alleged confessional statement of the defendant failed the provision of Section 9 (3 ) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) of Lagos State 2021.
“The Evidence Act allows legislation to guide the admissibility of document before the court. ACJL has stated that if a confessional statement is to be used, it must meet some certain degree by ACJL which is not applied in this case.
“We urge the court to discredit the confessional statement. The defendant moved in a jiffy to participate in a short skit that put him in trouble. My Lord, my client was trapped.
“Concerning the age of the girl in question, Exhibits D and E are not saying the same thing.
“It is our submission My Lord, that the court is bound to call the biological mother inside the box to tell us her real age or her birth certificate or scientific evidence is tendered to ascertain the age but none was done.
“The prosecution agreed that the age of the minor must be established. However, it has also agreed that nothing has been done to provide the real age,” Awosika said.
The Director of DPP, Dr Babajide Martins, in his final written address dated May 31, however, urged the court to convict Baba Ijesha as charged.
He argued that one of the defence witnesses, Mr Lawrence Ayeni, told the court that the CCTV recording could not be manipulated.
“On the issue of the CCTV recording My Lord, the first defence witness (Ayeni) told this honourable court during cross-examination that it cannot be manipulated and that the content of CCTV cannot be changed.
“Most importantly, he said he cannot say if the sexual assault did not happen. These are the testimonies from the defence witness My Lord.
“The defendant admitted to have been with the girl in both the incident that happened seven years ago and the one that happened in 2021.
“He also admitted to have sucked her fingers during the cross-examination.
“On the issue of ACJL, the primary legislation supersedes the secondary legislation.
“On the issue of a medical certificate, the defendant said he did not have any issue with the medical doctor and had never met him when I cross-examined him.
“As a result, he has no reason to mislead the court,” Martins said.
Martins further told the court that the definition of a child was anybody below the age of 18 years and that the prosecution had proven that the girl was below the age.
The DPP said the defendant also admitted during the trial that he never mentioned that he was acting a script when he was detained by the police at Sabo and Panti.
Suya Spice is a dry peanut-based spice rub used to marinate beef before grilling.
Then Suya spice aka yaji spice would be like second nature to you because suya is one of the most popular street foods in Nigeria.
Suya spice has become almost a staple in most homes.
Suya spice can be added to almost anything to give that dish a delicious twist. This Homemade Suya Spice is all Shades of delicious.
As I mentioned above, Peanuts are the major ingredient in suya spice. Peanuts give suya spice its distinct taste.
There won’t be suya spice without the peanuts.
I have seen suggestions to substitute peanuts with almonds though I haven’t tried that, I doubt it will taste close-talk less of taste the same. Peanuts and Almonds don’t have a similar taste.
What is Suya Spice used for?
Suya spice is a versatile spice. Though it is mainly used as a spice rub for meats, you can actually use it on anything you like.
I have used it in the following recipes and it was delicious.
Roasted groundnuts are the star ingredient in this recipe. I made it using two forms of peanuts, roasted peanuts and peanut powder.
The recipe with the roasted peanuts is more authentic than the one with the peanut powder which isn’t surprising since the originators of the suya spice mix make theirs using Kuli Kuli (a fried peanut snack).
This is a quick-fix recipe for when you don’t have much time on your hands and want to make a suya recipe.
Everyone loves a tray bake! It is the perfect “not sure what to have” meal and doesn’t come better than this crispy chicken suya tray baked with yam and vegetables.
It is so delicious that you will want to make it again and again.
Homemade suya spiced chicken is usually served with fried foods like fried yam, plantain etc. However, this is a more effortless and healthier version; you only need to toss the ingredients in spices before throwing in a baking pan to cook.
This Suya chicken thighs and yam tray bake tossed with the mouth-watering Nigerian suya spice is a crowd-pleaser, requires little effort and is packed full of vegetables.
Chicken cut: I like to use chicken thigh for tray bakes because it remains moist and juicy through baking. You can use your preferred or available cut of chicken. Drumsticks and chicken breasts also work well for chicken suya.
Yam: Dundun (crispy fried African yam) is a traditional accompaniment to suya chicken, which is why I have included it in my tray bake chicken. You can exclude this or substitute it with similar ingredients like potatoes or sweet potatoes.
Vegetables: Most vegetables work well in tray bakes. Use what you have in your kitchen or your favourite vegetables for this easy chicken tray bake.
How to Make Chicken Suya Tray Bake
Add the suya spice into a bowl and taste for salt with the tip of your tongue. Add more salt if required. Pour the oil in and mix to form a paste.
Rub the paste all over the skin of the chicken, and apply under the skin where possible too, to get as much flavour as possible. Leave for at least 30 mins to marinate.
Heat the oven to 200°C or 180°C fan.
Peel the yam and cut it into batons. Keep in a bowl of water to prevent browning.
Peel the onions and cut them into quarters. Wash the carrots and remove the top. Cut the broccoli into smaller pieces.
Suya Spice
Pour the yam and vegetables into the bowl containing the suya spice paste. Toss well.
Add the chicken skin side up on the tray. Arrange the yam, carrots, and broccoli around the chicken thighs and place the tray in the oven.
Allow cooking for 30 – 40 mins. Check the chicken is cooked before removing it from the oven.
The President, Muhammadu Buhari has joined Nollywood and professional actors, at home and abroad, to celebrate stage and screen icon, Olu Jacobs, on his 80th birthday, July 11, 2022.
President Buhari’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, titled ‘President Buhari joins Nollywood in celebrating Olu Jacobs at 80.’
According to Adesina, “The President felicitates with the Jacobs’ family, including the wife, also a renowned thespian, Joke Silva, and their friends on the auspicious occasion, which calls for thanksgiving for God’s care, guidance and protection.
“President Buhari affirms the influence of the veteran actor on the film industry, setting a standard of professionalism that has attracted global recognition and awards, like the Lifetime Achievement Award conferred on him in 2016 by African Movie Academy Awards.”
As the actor turns 80, the President noted that Jacob’s ingenious ability to interpret roles, simplify complex issues and bring messages to the understanding of both young and old, levelling cultural, ethnic and religious barriers to become a household name all over the country and beyond.
Largely stereotyped as a father and voice of wisdom in most movies, President Buhari believes Olu Jacobs’ natural tendency to counsel, inspire and instruct easily earned him the roles, while appreciating his foresight in winning many into the profession and guiding them to stardom.
The President, therefore, prayed that the Almighty God will grant him better health, longer life and steadfastness in service to the Arts, God, and humanity.

If you’ve been thinking about trying Ghana braids for a while, or they’re one of the top contenders for your next protective style.
Not only are there so many style ideas in the Ghana braids category alone (looking at you, chunky braids and zig-zag parts), but unlike, say, micro braids and box braids that can have you in the chair all day, Ghana braids can be installed in just two hours, depending on the intricacy of the style you choose.
Ghana braids are obviously very similar to cornrows, but thanks to the added braiding hair, you can really play up and customize the shape, thickness, and colors to match your vibes.
“There’s such a great, rich, beautiful cultural history of braiding that has been so diluted, Western culture has developed its own simplified take on Ghana braids.
By the time we get to where we are today to talk about Ghana braids, it’s pretty basic.
Although both feed-in braids and Ghana braids are very similar in technique, Spicy and Trendy say that Ghana braids should end up looking thicker and fuller than feed-in braids. “What makes Ghana braids different is the substantial amount of hair added through the braid for volume,” Spicy and Trendy explains.
“Feed-in braids have hair added through the braid as well, but a stylist is able to manipulate it in a way to where the braid stays the same size.” Another difference? “Hair is usually added for length with feed-in braids as opposed to volume with Ghana braids,”Spicy and Trendy.
How long do Ghana braids last?
Although Ghana braids can last up to a month if properly maintained with products and hair coverings while you sleep, both experts recommend wearing Ghana braids for two weeks only (three weeks max, says Spicy and Trendy) so that the hair doesn’t dry out and take your style from protective to damaging.
Do Ghana braids break your hair?
Ghana braids, like any protective style, can damage your hair or scalp if done too tightly—but you can avoid it. Spicy and Trendy explain that although tension is needed for most cornrow styles, too much tension can do the opposite of a protective style, which is why it’s important to see a knowledgeable stylist and try to speak up if you feel pain during your braiding (easier said than done, right?).
Got all that? Good. Now, to help you narrow down your look, Spicy and Trendy gathered up all the best Ghana braids ahead, the prettiest Ghana braid styles of all dang time.
This Triangle-Parted Ghana Braids Style
The best part about Ghana braids is how versatile they can be, especially when it comes to parting. I mean, how cool is this triangle parting? Even better, this style is made up of only three braids, which means you’ll spend even less time with your braider (no shade—I’m sure they’re great).
Ghana Braids with Cuffs
There is no braided hairstyle that doesn’t look extra cute with beads and cuffs and even if you opt-out of the cuffs, those center-curved cornrows are unique and precise enough to make the whole style.
Just don’t skip on your silk bonnet or scarf at night (or switch to a silk pillowcase if you haven’t already) to avoid messing with your braids.
Ghana Braids with Cornrows
These Ghana braids are anything but basic. The teeny-tiny cornrows not only add a cool contrast to the thicker braids,
but the way they cross over each other takes it from a braided style to a literal work of art.
Ghana Braids Bun with Loose Curls
Leaving your ends loose and curly is such a fun way to mix up your style.
To get this high bun, gather all of your braids into a ponytail, then wrap them around the base to form a bun, leaving a few of the curly ends out of the bun before tucking the rest underneath or securing with bobby pins.
Ghana Braids in a High Ponytail
Mousse is going to be the answer to keeping your braids this fresh and shiny for the full two weeks you have them.
Any time you’re not sure how to style your hair, tie it off into a half-up, half-down style like this.
It instantly gives your style a little extra personality, and it looks especially great with these alternating Ghana braids and cornrows.
Half-Braid Half-Loose Style
Can’t decide between full braids or a full sew-in? Good thing you don’t have to.
Meet them both halfway with this half-braided, half-extension combo. It’s honestly so pretty, and both protective styles will give your natural hair a break from daily life.
Jumbo Ghana Braids With Cornrows
For a more intricate look, ask your braider for mini braids that follow a criss-cross pattern along with your jumbo braids and straight cornrows.
To really make the design pop, incorporate blonde hair or another bright shade of braiding hair (it is the year of blue ombré, no?).
Ghana Braids With Zig-Zag Part
Important tip from Francis to help maintain moisture while wearing Ghana braids (or really any braids):
Keep your scalp moisturized every morning with hydrating leave-in sprays and oils (with a nozzle top) to keep skin soothed and hydrated.

Tragedy struck at the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State when a Range Rover, belonging to fast rising Nigerian singer, Portable, hit a bike rider.
The driver of the car, who is one of Portable’s associates, was running errands when the sad event happened.
Portable’s manager, who confirmed the incident via telephone chat, noted that the victim died after he was rushed to the hospital.
His manager, named Theresa, told our correspondent, “I’ll be very fast with you because I’m very busy. I was the one that sent one of his boys to go and buy something for me.
“On their way going, maybe the bike man thought that Portable was the one driving or they wanted to collect money or whatever, but the man drove to the vehicle. That was how they hit the man.“They called me. I left where I was with Portable. We went there. The guy that drove the car rushed the man to the hospital. I got to the hospital and transferred N25,000 to them.“They said N20,000 was for treatment while N5,000 was for X-ray.”
She noted that when she got to the hospital, the bike rider was complaining about pains on his back, noting that his two female passengers were unhurt.
The manager continued, “When I left the hospital, I gave them another N8,000 to take a cab to where they were going to conduct the X-ray. Immediately I left there, I reported to the Divisional Police Officer and the Commissioner of Police.“I called DPO Sango and DPO Ifo to explain what happened.
After 10 minutes, they called me back from the hospital that the man had given up.“When I got the call, I had to call the boy that was in the scenario to go to the station to report himself. He is at the station as I’m talking to you like this.”
When our correspondent reached out to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, he stated that the DPO had not briefed him on the matter, stating that he would find out.“The DPO there has not sent the report to me. So I’ll find out,” Oyeyemi said.
