The Heads of Local Government Administration, HLA, in Osun State have debunked the rumour that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with the state government on a project.

In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Forum of Heads of Local Government, Dr. Adewale Adedapo, the forum described the rumour as unsubstantiated lies.

The forum said the lies were being spread by ‘unknown clowns’ who wanted to score cheap political points from unsuspecting members of the public.

According to the statement if any drastic decision is to be made at the local government, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON is the only constitutionally recognized body to do such.

The statement stresses that this will not deter the HLA’s unflinching support for the workers’ friendly administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke towards building a sustainable local government system and bringing dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots.

The Supreme Court Wednesday morning heard the case brought before it by the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON against the judgement of the Appeal Court which favoured the state government.

Judgement in the case will be delivered 7th May, 2021.

Ibadan North West local government chairman, Bashorun Moshood Ajuwon and others, had instituted the case, with suit number SC556/2020, against Governor Seyi Makinde and others,  after sacking them on May 29, 2019 inauguration.

The Court of Appeal had on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, okayed the sack of elected chairmen

But ALGON chairman, Prince Abass Aleshinloye has assured that he and his colleagues would challenge the judgement at the apex court.

Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), has raised the alarm over illegal deductions of N119million from the monthly allocation of Local Governments in Ondo State by the 18 council chairmen, alleging connivance with the state Accountant-General, Laolu Akindolire and the State Commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa.

The Ondo State Chapter of the Union therefore sought the immediate arrest of the state ALGON Chairman and Chairman, Akoko Southwest Local Government, Mr. Oloruntegbe Akinterinwa and Akindolire over illegal deduction of the N119million in the past three months, amounting to N357million.

Speaking with newsmen in Akure, the Ondo State Capital, State President of NULGE, Comrade Bola Taiwo said the Council Chairmen under the umbrella of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) had connived with the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Accountant-General of the federation and their state counterparts to deduct the money for phony Comprehensive Healthcare Centres in all the local government areas.

Comrade Bola said the illegal deductions had further worsened the condition of council workers who had been finding it difficult to receive full monthly salaries.

The NULGE President appealed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to help recover the three-months illegal deductions and remmit same to the Ondo State Local Governments Accounts, warning that failure to recover the money, the Union would not be able to guarantee industrial harmony between workers and local government chairmen in the state.

Oyo State House of Assembly has directed the embattled local government chairmen in the state to immediately hand over government property in their care to their respective councils and LCDAS for proper accountability.

The House also urged the commissioner of police in the state and other security agencies to intervene, to ensure the property were recovered.

In a matter of urgent public importance presented to the House, the Majority Leader, Mr Sanjo Adedoyin said some government property had been declared missing at local councils allegedly taken away by the embattled ALGON chairmen.

Deliberating the motion, the lawmakers held divergent views as some believed the House should not debate on the matter since the chairmen have proceeded to the Supreme Court.

In his ruling, Speaker of the House, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin described the motion as apt and advised the ALGON chairmen to return the government property in their care for use in the council areas.

The Speaker said the actions of the chairmen to further hold on to the property in their possession is illegal.

The House also refer the downward review of the 2020 Oyo State budget to the committee on finance and appropriation for proper scrutiny.
